Monday night Mr and Mrs John Fleck and daughter Marie hosted two elderly travelers from Sylvania who travel by horse and buggy to Moundsville to visit relatives for three weeks before returning home. The Thorps, aged 86 and 83, plan about 236 miles one way at roughly 30 miles daily.
The R. M. A. will host a social Saturday evening on July 22 at the Modern Woodmen hall. Ice cream cake coffee and sandwiches will be served. The public is invited.
The Hotelling reunion was held Sunday July 16 at the Charles Hotel ling home with 21 present. Officers elected: President George Hotelling, Vice President Simon Wohlgamuth, Secretary and Treasurer Mrs Florence Hotelling, Committee members Elza Hotelling James Hotelling and Grover Hotelling. The next reunion will be at the Charles Hotel ling home on the second Sunday in July 1923.
Last Sunday the Monarchs were defeated by Mt Blanchard 4 to 3 at Mt Blanchard. Bradley the Monarch moundsman pitched excellent ball but received poor support in the critical moments.
Mrs. F L Moyer hosted the W C T U meeting on East Main street with scripture from Proverbs 16 1 9 and the Lord's Prayer. Topics included Americanization, world peace by children, the eighteenth amendment at sea, and judges on the crime wave. The session closed with benediction and the next meeting planned for August on the second Friday at 7 30 p m with Misses Ste and Della Gilliland.
About a typical turnout at the Kiwanis luncheon last Monday noon. The attendance committee led the program with a light ribbing act. Two visitors spoke, including Mr. Goble on the strike situation and Rev. Lewis P. Speaker. Mr. W. R. Kurtz won the prize, amid songs. Next week the finance committee, chaired by Mr. W. S. Bish, will lead.
Inez Lamberjack, 15, daughter of Mr and Mrs Nicholas Lamberjack northwest of town, left St Francis convent at Tiffin to undergo an adenoid operation at her home Tuesday forenoon. She plans to return to the convent as soon as her health permits.
The Thursday church night program features a devotional in charge of E C Walker's class followed by an illustrated talk on the Life of Christ. Sunday offers usual morning services with no evening service.
Salem defeated Wharton 9 to 8 in ten innings on Sunday at Wharton diamond. Pitchers Orians and Ulrich earned the Salem win while Cole and Shuman were Whitons' main players. Next Sunday Salem faces Carey Monarchs at Carey.
A regular meeting of the Woman's Auxiliary of the American Legion will be held next Monday night at the Legion rooms. The session will include the closing of the auxiliary charter.
The Savidge Burson family reunion will be held at Carey Park on Saturday August 19.
The program lists director Fuglers conducting marches and overtures by G Rosenkrans. Selections include Prince Royal, Dreaming, Break of Dawn, Cavalry of the Cloud, Intermission, King of the Highway, Debutante, The American Federation, Sliding Jims, Shrine of Liberty, and other pieces by Fred Jewell and Francis A. Myers with performers including Joe D Barnard and Archibal Joyce.
The Woman's Home Missionary Society of the Methodist church met last Thursday with Mrs. O. L. Shumate. Readings included Makers of the Flag and True Americanization. A quartet performed. Officers were elected: Ash president, Bame vice president, Shuman recording secretary, Patterson treasurer, Purkey corresponding secretary, Dow temperance secretary, Lindsay mite box secretary, Henry perpetual secretary, Harshberger bequest secretary, Cosgray stewardship secretary. No meeting will be held during the period.
Clerk John Stoody lists births for June including George Perkins daughter on June 2 and several sons and daughters born to Wm Montague Otto Maschka Ernest Schubert Samuel Lazza Cyril Kramer John Williams Claude Johnson Wm Orians Godfrey de la Hamaide Gurolamo Muleroma Glen Maschka Geo Whaley and infant of Claude H John son of Mrs Clinton Williams with dates ranging from June 2 to June 29 detailed in this vital statistics notice.
Last Thursday in Fostoria, George Snyder and Audrey Holden, both of the city, were married at Rev. J. M. Shimer's residence. They spent Sunday in Cleveland with the Snyders and took a lake trip to Niagara Falls. The groom, son of Mrs. W. H. Snyder, is vice president of Snyder Lumber Co and a Carey High School graduate 1917. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Holden, is a 1918 C. H. S. graduate and has worked in H. B. Keller's office. They will reside in Carey.
Donahey boosters led by Dr B Russell editor T Ditto and neighbors John Maurer and John Rosch visited New Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon to advocate Vic Donahey as the Democratic candidate for governor. The group traveled in a large auto bearing a rooster emblem and planned to cover northern Ohio with more trips to follow.
Joe Collet took his wife to Mercy Hospital in Tiffin on Tuesday where she is scheduled for surgery today. The event is reported as a routine medical procedure with no additional details.
Carey Tires blanked the Seneca Colored Giants 19 to 1 at the rubber plant ball diamond as Stombaugh Bland and Myers toppled the Giants. Eight runs came in a single inning while Arch Donelson steered the reorganized club now planning to use home players only. Next Sunday they host Forest at Forest.
Joseph Jenot died at the Richardson sanitarium in Findlay at 1 45 am after a week long illness begun with a swollen foot. Blood poisoning caused death though the origin was undetermined. Funeral services will be held Friday at Our Lady of Consolation Church. He was 18 years old, born September 9 1903 in New Berlin Ul. He lived with his uncle Thomas Jenot after his father died. He was a Knights of Columbus and Catholic Knights member and worked as a clerk in C C Simonis grocery.
Last week Mrs J. J Kohmann found a carrier pigeon feeding with her chickens on the east edge of town. The bird remained several days on the premises, often flying north briefly then returning to feed. It wears two leg bands and the owner is asked to claim the bird.
Henry B. Lemke of Toledo will deliver an address on Mooseheart before the local Moose lodge on Thursday night July 20. He will discuss the proposed Old Folks Home and its significance to the order.
There will be a special Friday night meeting of the W B A of the Maccabees. Important business. All are urged to attend by order of the Commander.
Funeral services for C. R. Sutphen were held at the home of his brother on West Main street with Rev. Lewis P. Speaker officiating. Interment followed in Spring Grove cemetery. The Pittsburgh Post reprinted a biographical sketch detailing Sutphen’s rise from telegraphy to treasurer and advertising head of the Pittsburgh Dispatch and his community roles.

The Chautauqua boosters organize with H G Chambers as president and Fitza Jacobs as secretary. H H Heck serves as treasurer, C X Diller chairs ticket selling, W Ro Kurtz and H F Graves handle grounds, and T W McClure runs publicity. Diller asks sellers to check in Saturday evening to gauge progress. A Monday country selling campaign is planned. Farmers are urged to seize the chance for enjoyable evenings of high class entertainments.
Miss Nettie Belle Ward daughter of Mr and Mrs William J Ward and Mr Frederick G Vigor son of Mr and Mrs I J Vigor were married on Monday July 10 in Detroit The groom spent much of his boyhood in Carey and has many friends here.
