Ohio Draft Lottery Set for July 17 in Washington

About 40 511 Ohio registrants will have their draft sequence drawn in a national lottery at 7 p m in Washington to determine the order of integration with existing registrants. Serial numbers from SS S 1 to the largest presented will be drawn, producing a master list for local boards to assign Sequence Numbers and then order numbers. The process mirrors the October 1940 lottery, and deferments are advised for those already volunteering for Canadian or British forces. The House passed a bill to permit deferment of men who were 28 on July 1.

A. Miller Narrow Escape Atop Light Pole

A. Miller, lineman for the board of public affairs, narrowly escaped serious injury Tuesday at 2 30 p.m. while replacing wire on a light pole at N Vance Street and Brown Avenue. A 2300 volt shock knocked him from the pole, his safety belt kept him from falling. Fellow worker Walter Updegraff revived him. Miller suffered burns on his palms and leg soreness, treated then returned to work Wednesday morning.

The Carey Schools band directed by William M Holloway performs Wednesday evening July 23 at the new municipal building on N Vance Street. Wyandot County sanctuary lands approved for wildlife restoration

July 15. The state board of control approved the purchase of a 380 acre tract in Crawford township Wyandot county for a wildlife restoration sanctuary. The Ohio division of conservation and natural resources requested the site and will develop the project.

The Peoples Bank Company of Carey reports June 30 deposits of 598188.16 and assets of 724300.51, up from December 31 1940 when deposits were 566193.73 and assets 687821.44. Knights of Columbus to play in state tournament

Carey Knights of Columbus clinched a 10 to 6 victory over Tiffin Knights of Columbus to represent Northwest Ohio at Cedar Point for the state tournament July 25 26 and 27 The Carey team was to face Upper Sandusky next but that opponent did not appear and Carey’s next match is set for July 26 at 600 pm with the opponent to be announced.

Treasure Hunt Slumber Party Aids Methodist Child

Queen Esther class of First Methodist holds a treasure hunt and sleepover at Mrs Alfred K Davis home on E Findlay street. Each member brings a sheet pillowcase and a quarter to support a child at the Methodist Children's Home in Worthington for a year. The hunt begins at 7:00 PM from the Davis residence.

Dumping Waste Prohibited On Village Property

The ordinance bans refuse dumping between Ogg street and the C and O depot and on village property. The fire department has twice been called to fires in this waste. Ordinance No 18 was passed July 1 1907 to prohibit such dumping. The village dumping ground north of the village was bought years ago for this purpose. By Bachar Mayor.

Troop No. 13 of the Boy Scouts of America is at Camp John A Owens near Marion for the week. Carey boys attending include Richard Hayman Calvin Thome Frederick Williams Ferdinand Williams and others from Carey Arden Moser of Upper Sandusky Harold Krout a former Scout helps supervise. Operation at Findlay Spurs Boy's Tonsillectomy

Raymond Pahl six year old son of Edward Pahl of Findlay underwent a tonsillectomy Friday in Dr Mowry’s Findlay office. He was taken by ambulance to his father’s home where he rested with his grandmother Mrs Louisa Pahl until Saturday. He lives with Mr and Mrs Albert Schlachter near New Riegel and was cared for by his aunt Mrs Schlachter until return to the Schlachter home. He is recovering nicely.

New Traffic Light Installed at Findlay and Vance Streets

An employee of the board of public affairs installed a new traffic light at Findlay and Vance on Monday. The device cost 22073 and replaces an older signal used for several years. The old unit will be moved to E Findlay and Patterson streets.

Local Families Welcome Newborn Daughters in July

Mercy hospital in Tiffin reports the birth of a 5 pound 9 ounce daughter to Mr and Mrs W M Florea of Fostoria on July 12. The mother, formerly Lucille Donelson, is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Elmer Donelson of Carey Bon. Earlier, on Thursday morning, Mercy hospital welcomed a daughter to Mr and Mrs Edmund Weaver of Carey.
