Salem Festival Highlights July 13 in the Country

The Salem Festival features COUNTRY CHICKEN lunches from 5 30 PM with fresh pies and cakes. Amusements booths and games provide family friendly entertainment with a musical backdrop. If weather turns, the event moves to Monday July 14.

Monument Builders announce $250 prize for peace monument design

The Monument Builders of America plan to erect an international peace monument on Belle Isle near Detroit from August 15 to November 11 with dedication on Armistice Day. A $250 prize will be awarded for the winning design, plus $50 prizes for inscriptions from Canada and the United States. Entries are due by August 1. Carey School Board Adopts 1942 Budget and Sees Resignation

At the regular meeting the Carey board of education approved the annual budget for 1942. Miss Betty Willard, instructor in vocational home economics, resigned effective August 31 1941 to pursue other work. Board members present were Russell Gottfried, Dale Frazier, Dr H K Van Buren, Dr L E Treece, and Truman Romig.

Knights of Columbus Set for Northwest Ohio Sectional Tourney

The Carey Knights of Columbus softball squad travels to Tiffin Friday night to compete in the Northwest Ohio Council sectional tournament. The winner and runner up advance to the state tourney at Cedar Point July 25 26 27. Last year Carey lost in the state event to the Cleveland council. A rained out game and a Sunday double header ended with Tiffin Knights of Columbus 4 Carey All Stars 2 and Toledo Post Office 4 Carey Knights 1.

C R Lonsway of Carey council is named district deputy for the Upper Sandusky Tiffin and Carey councils. State Deputy James Lavey announced the appointment as he outlined the year’s districts. The group planned an Aug 3 picnic at the fairgrounds and a joint Aug 5 installation of Carey and Tiffin officers in Tiffin with Lonsway leading and Lavey assisting.
