Conservation efforts aim to stock Tymochtee creek with pickerel after Hutter of Sandusky suggested purchasing the fish at market price and releasing them in March or April for best results. Separately, Ohio adopts a staggered hunting season with favorable reviews to provide three weekends for hunters and balance farming needs.
Tonight July 13 the Epworth League will host a Lakeside Institute Booster picnic at the E F F Thome farm east of Carey leaving the church at 7 oclock. The Methodist junior department voted to join the senior in regular worship. Official board plans a pastoral vacation covering July 30 and August 6 with a possible July 31 worship and August 6 church school service.
Announcement reports the marriages of Miss Alice DeVene to Robert Kromer and Miss Mary Ellen Baker to Delmo Kromer in Covington Kentucky. Both brides are daughters of local families and their husbands are cousins from Carey and area.
Rev and Mrs Roy B Leedy and daughter Omeda Helen with Miss Arlene Perkins Miss Dorothy Mericle and Miss Maxene Perkins travel to Linwood Park Vermillion for a week at the Evangelical assembly. Arlene is a delegate from Memorial Evangelical Sunday school while Maxene and Dorothy represent the young people's league.
The C C class of Memorial Evangelical Sunday School will hold a business and social meeting at 8 oclock Friday evening July 14 in the home of Miss Elizabeth Stroup on FE Findlay street. Mrs Ralph Veith of near Upper Sandusky will be assisting hostess.
A note of thanks expresses gratitude for flowers cards and visits during the hospital stay and after returning home from Mrs J Audritsh.
The St. Joseph's congregation of Salem township changes its annual festival date to Sunday July 30. The announcement notes the new date and urges parishioners to mark calendars accordingly.
The provincial chapter of Our Lady of Consolation province meets at Our Lady of Consolation Convent Carey. Very Rev Anthony Hodapp is re elected minister provincial for three years. Attending are Bede Hess Rome and many reverends from Indiana Kentucky Illinois Wisconsin and Texas.
4-H campers head to Camp Pittenger the week of July 16 near Mc Cutchenville. Under 15 attend first three days, then those 15 and older join July 19.Wyandot county camp combines Marion and Crawford counties with nature studies from forestry staff and the game conservation league. Activities include softball, volleyball, tennis, horseshoes, tetherball, and more under trained supervision. Lifeguards and a health nurse remain on site for bathing and boating safety and general camp health. Crafts feature sheet metal work and game construction. Enrollments are through local club leaders or the county agent. The camp offers an affordable vacation and practical training not found in schools or at home.
Miss Nona Roszman daughter of Henry Roszman and Kenneth Heilman son of Mr and Mrs George Heilman were married in Catlettsburg Kentucky on Saturday July. The couple were joined by Mr and Mrs Earl Tanner of McCutenville and their trip extended through Kentucky West Virginia and southern Ohio with many interesting parts.
The Carey Times corrects last week’s obituary error from Han cock county. It stated Mrs. N B Presler was a sister but she was a cousin. Hiles only sister was the late Mrs Henry Dietel bach from Craww ford and later Tiffin.
The Moose edged the Porcelains 4 to 3 while the Porcelains out-hit them 8 to 7. The Frigidaires defeated the National Limes 7 to 1 as Niederkohr allowed 5 hits and the team collected 14 off Logsdon. Schedule notes list upcoming games on July 13 to July 18.
A new manufacturing firm named Smith & Lusk Wood Products Co will establish on the Snyder property in Carey on N Patterson Street, occupying the former Perkins Lumber Co site. Owners Robert Smith and Floyd Lusk expect operations to begin in two to three weeks with machinery being assembled. The plant will produce wooden chicken coops wooden handles and other wood products. Both owners are well known in Carey with Smith formerly at Farmers' Cream Station and American Legion Earl Green Post and Lusk a 20 year veteran of Carey Handle and Lumber Co and serving his sixth Township constable term. All positions are filled and no new hires are anticipated.
Rev. Roy B Leedy of Memorial Evangelical church conducted a service at the county jail in Upper Sandusky on a Sunday afternoon. Attending along with him were Mrs Leedy and daughter Omelia Helen Mrs Harry Bowman Carl Hunter and daughters Marilyn and Carolyn and Mr and Mrs Cloyce Rader. A number of Upper Sandusky residents were in attendance.
The W. B. A. will hold a social Friday at the Moose hall with cards and Chinese checkers. The public is invited to attend.
Eighty boys joined Carey playground activities boosting season attendance to 246. Softball wins by teams led by Burton Krom and Bobby Donelson. Kroms beat Yingling followers 11 8 on Wednesday while Donelsons crushed Krank Hecks 16 6 on Friday. Amos Black rose to second in runs with 17 and 7 hits in 9 at bats scoring 8 times. Baseball produced 46 total runs with Leonard Nyes 14 Bob Smiths 8 on Wednesday and Bob Strahms 16 Bill Montagues 8 on Friday. Leaders show Paul De Amicis Wayne Zahn Leonard Nye and Bob Wickham with top batting averages. Games are played Wednesdays and Fridays at Lakeland Park. softball at 230 for ages 9 14 and baseball at 4 for ages up to 20. No fees. Carey board of education and Carey Community Chest sponsor under Hayden Fouts.
The 1940 wheat allotment for Wyandot County under the AAA farm program is 32 288 acres, up 1 716 acres from 1939. Chairman Robert E. Sweigard notes national allotment rises to 62 000 000 acres to support domestic markets exports and reserves. Farm allotments will be mailed in coming weeks, about two months earlier than 1938.
A 7-pound daughter was born July 9 to Mr and Mrs Richard Simon of Ann Arbor Midh in St Joseph’s hospital. Mrs Simon, formerly Miss Romaine Hoff of Findlay, is the daughter of Mr and Mrs W B Hoff of Carey. A son was born to Mr and Mrs Vance M Kramer of Cleveland last Thursday at 5 pm in Lakeside hospital. The baby weighed 7 pounds and is their second son. Mrs Kramer was formerly Miss Fredericka Spencer daughter of Ralph Spencer of Findlay, a former Carey resident.
Two copies of the tax budget for Crawford Township in Wrandot County Ohio are on file for public inspection. A public hearing on the budget will be held at the Clerk’s Office on Tuesday July 25 1939 at 8 00 PM.
Attorney at law Cassel announces absence from office from July 17 through July 20 inclusive.
The church hosts its fourth lawn fete on Wednesday July 19 with indoor chicks noodles and sandwiches served 5 to 7 pm and outdoor service 6 to 10:30 pm. A varied program includes local talent and the Carey Schools band amid food offerings and refreshments.
The annual K of C picnic will be held next Sunday in the grove near D A Dow's residence at Crawford with dinner at 12 15 and ice cream from the committee. At Tuesday's meeting officers were installed by Tom Dowd of Kenton including Grand Knight R M Lonsway and others. visitors from Kenton and Findlay attended.
Mrs F E Phillips sustained a broken right hip Friday night when she fell at her north of Carey home. She was taken by ambulance to Findlay for X rays and later moved to Findlay Hospital where her condition was reported as good as can be expected. Post visiting hours followed by Mr and Mrs Lon Phillips Mrs Wayne Powell and Miss Mary Phillips at the hospital.
The Carry Girls 4-H club met July 10 at the Catholic hall for its third planning session. Officials reviewed July 14 prospects and guests Nonna Hagerman and Blanche Haford attended. Recreation was led by Marguerite Ortins and Erma Yost, with the meeting closing on their club song.
J T Stombaugh fainted from heat while pouring powder at the stone quarry near noon last Friday. He was carried to his home on E Findlay street and returned to his duties the following Monday.
