Solemn Vows Pronounced by Franciscan Friars at Shrine

Eight Franciscan Friars of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual profess solemn vows at a Solemn High Mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation. The group includes Walter Mildenberger, Kent Biergan, Norman Helber, James Long, Daniel Yard, Alexis Neckel, Paschal Stubbs, and Carlos Acosta with Aug 7 additional vows planned for Bernardine Bouvier and Alphonse Boardway. Parents and friends attended the ceremony.

Thoburn Bakers Rebuild Modern Dairy Barn After Fire

The all steel 96 by 128 foot barn replaces the lost farm facilities west of Carey after the February fire. It will house 60 dairy cows once herd rebuilding continues, with initial stock at 11 Guernseys. E t Gottfried led the erection with Leonard Gottfried and Lawrence Foreman assisting. Wyandot County votes on 50 bed home bond issue

Wyandot County Commissioners approve a $496000 bond proposal to build and equip a 50 bed county home with a half mill tax for 23 years. A public meeting is set for July 18 to explain the plan amid safety and health concerns and prior failed ballots. The 55 percent approval threshold applies.

Pool Offers Swimming Lessons Start Tuesday

Swimming lessons will begin at the pool on Tuesday July 17 for ages 8 to 11 from 10 to 10 45 a m. A second session for youths ages 12 to 16 starts Thursday July 19 at 10 a m. Cost is 25c per lesson. private lessons are 50c each. Adults classes may run in the evenings if enough interest. Contact pool at 396 6885 before Tuesday.

Physical Fitness Program Planned For Grades 8 to 12

Orientation for the Carey Youth Fitness program is set for Monday at 6 30 p m in the high school gym. All boys in grades 8 12 are urged to participate in this program of physical fitness featuring self testing exercises weight lifting and speed improvement drills. Parents and others are invited.

State Health Department report on Carey Village water shows adequate existing well supply storage and distribution for the past year. Six bacteriological samples since April 1961 were satisfactory with no iron or manganese. Continued monthly sampling recommended and notes on standpipe work and cathodic protection completed.

Labor and materials totaling 265 902 63 dollars were used to build Carey Ohio s new sewage treatment plant by June 28 per a report by David W Geisinger assistant sanitary engineer in the Chicago office of the Department of Health Education and Welfare The value includes 241 792 50 dollars to Christopher Construction Co of Columbus under the general contract 263 390 and 24 110 13 dollars for engineering and inspection fees Carey received a federal grant covering 30 percent of project cost After the first inspection 31 400 dollars came from the federal government and the second payment certified by Geisinger will be 48 300 dollars

Car Stalled At Crossing Struck By Train

Miss Arlene Savidge age 20 escaped injury when her 1950 Chevrolet stalled at the C&O Railroad crossing 414 miles south of Carey. After failed restart attempts she left the vehicle. it was struck by a train, flung into a ditch and demolished.

Cecil G. Laird 59 of 128 Patterson Street died of Hodgkins disease at Doctors Hospital Columbus. A Carey school teacher for 37 years he also served as Col Crawford School principal for 16 years and managed the Carey Theatre. Work Starts On R 103 Bridge Replacements

Mosser Construction Co. Inc. of Fremont began replacing four bridges on State Route 103 in Wyandot County over Sycamore Creek with a $392,674.70 contract. The route closed between Sycamore and the Crawford county line July 5. Completion is planned for July 31, 1963. The new structure will be 36 feet wide, more than twice the width of the former 15 foot steel truss bridges. Work will proceed on two Sandusky River bridges and a Tymochtee Creek bridge.
