Carey Celebrates Great White Way Anniversary Parade

Carey marks the Great White Way opening with a 3,000 strong crowd. The event featured decorated streets, a slow auto race, a pipe race, a baseball game against Upper Sandusky, a children's race, and an 76-car auto parade with the McCutchenville Band.

Carey Couple Attends Bluffton Fly-In Breakfast

Mr and Mrs C J Adelsperger joined a Bluffton airport Fly-In breakfast hosted by local plane owners. Prizes were given for oldest plane and for oldest and youngest pilots. The Adelspergers flew in a two seat Aeronca owned with Calvin Thome. Mrs Adelsperger, licensed ten years, made her first flight with him.

Winners in Women’s Singles Shuffleboard Tourney

The Shuffleboard Club held its annual men and women singles tournaments July 4 at Carey Memorial Park. Dorcas Donelson won first in the women’s event with Mary Shiley finishing second. Arch Donelson won men’s singles, while the runner up remained undecided due to games yet to be played. A potluck dinner followed at 6 o’clock at the shelterhouse.

Village approves Ziebarth Subdivision 1 ordinance

The village council unanimously passed Ordinance No. 471 accepting the Ziebarth Subdivision No. 1 plat between W North Street and the A C and Y Railroad east of Lake Street. The 18 lots include a 60 foot extension of West Street and the city will cover 2 percent of utility costs as allowed by law.

The Carey High School Class of 1953 will hold a reunion at 3 p.m. Sunday at the home of Mr and Mrs Charles Buckland northeast of Carey on Route 509. Attendees should bring a covered dish and their own table service beverages will be provided.

Sheriff McAllister Returns From National Conference in Florida

Wyandot County Sheriff and Mrs V Dean McAllister returned from the 15th annual Sheriffs Informative Conference in Miami Beach Florida. The event hosted 22 sheriffs at the Hotel Roney Plaza. Harry Grossglass of Stark County was elected to the board of governors and Sheriff Paul of Franklin County served as third vice president. The gathering discussed duties and practices and the Red Cross Blood Program and safety issues including blasts from blasting caps. Sheriff McAllister plans to screen a 26 minute film on blasting cap dangers in Wyandot County schools this fall.

Car Hits Wagon on Route 224 East of Ottawa

Paul Schmutz 25 and Glen Seyer 35 were eastbound on Route 224 when Seyer tried a left turn and was struck by Schmutz’s car. Both vehicles were loaded towed wagons. Mer Schmitz suffered a minor hand laceration while removing an ignition wire as the engine caught fire.

Must Have Chairman for Carey Blood Donor Days

A public spirited woman is urged to serve as general chairman for Carey’s Red Cross Blood Donor program as Mrs. Ruby Criger moves away. The role requires about 60 hours in the two weeks before the Bloodmobile visit and about 10 hours after, with all time voluntary. The next visit is scheduled for December 6, 1955. Carey 4 H Club Plans Fund Raising and Activities

Twenty three members attended the Carey 4 H club meeting led by Vernon Grubel with John Romig presiding. A county contribution week July 18 25 was announced due to a diminishing fund. Ice cream social was chosen over a car wash, and the county camp fire is set for July 14. County swim at Carey pool July 19 and county 4 H activities dates were reviewed by Glen Vollmar who also shared Korea service photos. Ed Grubel will present a safety talk at the July 18 meeting.

New Home Under Construction For Upper Sandusky Family
