Wakeman Edges Carey 5 4 In Twilight Build Up

Wakeman Red Caps beat the Carey Mud Hens 5 to 4 as Tom Mockler fanned 15 in a 7 inning effort while allowing only two walks. Gene Newell allowed seven hits for Carey with five strikeouts and two walks. A twilight game is being scheduled at Findlay, with Sunday return to league play against Liberty. Carey hopes a win and a Van Buren loss will give sole first place.

Vanlue Band Mothers Social Slated for July 5

The Vanlue Band Mothers ice cream social takes place Monday evening July 5 starting at 6. The school band will perform with games and pony rides run by the Lions club on the football field under lights. rain moves event to the bus garage. Home Sold Near Carey by Oggs to Rice Couple

Mr and Mrs W Ogg sold their seven room modern home with five acres located about 50 miles northeast of Carey to Mr and Mrs Paul E Rice of Marion. Mr Rice works at Scheck's Market south of Carey. The sale was arranged by Arthur Stevens, Realtor. The Oggs and their children will temporarily reside with Mr and Mrs James Ogg on East Findlay Street.

Community drive aids Davis fire loss at Carey

Kiwanis Notes June Meeting Features and Visits

The June 21 program opened with Arch Donelson showing color hunting fishing and vacation travel films from Canada and the U S A. The second half featured an industrial firm sponsored by Snyder Lumber Co demonstrating laminated rafters. President Mapes reported on the San Francisco Kiwanis International convention and a record attendance. On June 30 Carey club members visited Findlay club with traveling gavel exchange. Joan Cole sang several solos.

Youths bound to grand jury in auto theft case

Lewis L. Krom 21 of Fostoria and Ellis Craft 19 of Carey were bound over to the grand jury after mayor's court on theft charges from a parked car. Krom pleaded guilty and was jailed in default of 1000 bond. Craft pleaded not guilty and released on 300 bond. Items alleged stolen included pencils spark plugs an umbrella a camera and tire gauge from Jack Pope's car on 511% S Main St. Entry was gained via a ventilator. Police arrested them on Sandusky Street. The case was reported by the Findlay Republican Courier.

Offenbachers Return Home After Cataract Surgery

Mr and Mrs L E Offenbacher came home Saturday from Bellefontaine after three weeks. He recuperates from a major cataract operation by Dr E W Milly at Mary Rutan hospital. Visitors are welcome but must be quiet for three weeks. He later stayed with daughter Mrs Charles DeLong.

Stolen Goods Found In Carey Home After Search

Sheriff George R. Steinmetz and Deputy Sheriff John W. Dysard, with Wyandot and Hancock officials, found a large quantity of stolen items at Calvin Plott’s Carey home after his arrest. Plott admitted thefts from Arcadia and other counties, implicating Linus Krom and Harold E. Davis, who are jailed in Findlay on separate charges. Police say other break ins in Carey and nearby towns are tied to the case with about $600 in merchandise recovered.

Sgt John Black Buried Today at St. Marys Cemetery

The body of Sgt John M Black killed in action July 26 1943 arrived in Carey over the C and O railroad and will be laid to rest in St Marys cemetery with military honors. He served with Co B 148th Infantry 37th Division and died during the capture of Munda in the Solomon Islands. He was 25 and survived by his mother stepfather and several siblings. Funeral services planned for 2:30 PM with Legion involvement.

Capable Carey Coeds 4-H Plant Flowers Front Bed

Elizabeth Romig and Ruth Droll of the Capable Carey Coeds 4-H club planted flowers in front of the Carey municipal building as a community project. Flowers donated by Clyde Jenkins of Carey Greenhouses include geraniums spikes petunias coleus and border plants. A meeting of club officers and advisors was held to complete plans for the club program. A regular meeting is scheduled for Monday July 5.
