The institute announces a Monday start for an expanded relic display at the high school vocational agriculture rooms. A quilt show will feature oldest to new designs with cash prizes for top antique and quilt entries. First prize 50c, second 25c, with guard and security for all exhibits during the event.
The Carey Community Institute will convene at the high school auditorium on Monday and Tuesday February 4 and 5. The article lists officers including President T D Romig and Vice President William Pontius, with secretary treasurer Mrs Allen Baker and hostess Mrs J A Vaughn. An extensive executive committee and various chairs and committees are named for nominations resolutions advertising publicity posters exhibits phase of meeting and finance.
The Earl Green post of the American Legion will stage a minstrel show at the high school auditorium on February 25 and 26 plans directed by Eddie Ewald of Newark who previously led a Carey show. At the Legion meeting on February 8 Supt W L Arnholt will finish his two party history discussion.
From October to December the branch store of the state liquor department returned a total of $1200 in taxes to state and federal governments. Eight hundred dollars went to the federal government and 400 to the state. The greater portion of the state share was remitted to Wyandot county and distributed among local subdivisions.
The Philathea class of Memorial Evangelical Sunday school will meet Tuesday evening next week February 5 at the home of Mrs Vertie Rame on West Findlay street. Mrs Elza Jacobs will lead the lesson study and Mrs Myrtle Perkins and Mrs Ed Weaver will arrange the entertainment.
A meeting of the Carey Community Institute officers and committee chairmen is scheduled for Friday at 7 30 in the high school agriculture room.
Members of the Philharmonic Society are asked to meet at the high school building Monday evening at 7:30 oclock.
The Kiwanis club heard Lt Horning of Indianapolis and railroad attorney discuss a Square Deal for the Railroads. Horning warned of a looming tax burden and massive employment losses if railways fail, citing railroad assets and nationwide impact. Next week L L Rummell of Columbus will speak at Carey Community Institute.
Detroit expert Newell W Banks, billed as the world’s foremost exhibition player, faced multiple regional challengers at the YWCA in Findlay. He ran 14 boards simultaneously, played about 75 games, and remained undefeated with 5 draws among 25 boards. McDaniel, Hile, and others from Carey Arcadia Portage Bluffton and beyond secured several draws.
The Christ Lutheran and Methodist congregations held a union vesper service at the Lutheran church on Sunday at 4 30 PM led by Rev Paul R Clouser and Rev A C Rainsberger. A sacred music program featured combined choirs with solos and a quartet. Mrs George Constien Mrs E A Capell Dr W N Johnson C J Koehler RC Beebe and Mr Clouser performed. Miss Elsie Howard played the organ.
Tables will be arranged at the Galt Hotel parlors this evening for a mixed tournament in duplicate contract. Players are asked to be there at 8:00 o'clock.
The Pythian Sisters call for a good attendance at the advisory meeting this Thursday at 7 30 p m. All members of the degree staff are requested to be present for practice.
Two operettas will be presented February 7 at the high school auditorium under music supervisor Miss Mary Finley. Frances Peirce and John Byers lead in The Smiling Sixpence, performed by grades four through six. Dorothy Hood acts Mother Goose in Mother Goose's Garden for grades one through three. Choruses of 30 to 40 voices, bright costumes, special lighting, and a tap dance by Dicky Bishop will enhance performances with Jean Knoblock singing The Good Ship Lolly Pop.

The Young Ladies Sodality of Our Lady of Consolation Church will sponsor a supper and dance at the Catholic hall on Thursday evening February 14. Proceeds go to church activities and charity. Local residents are invited to attend and support the event.
Christ Lutheran hosts a faith series from February 3 to March with Rev Paul R Clouser leading along with visiting ministers. The schedule lists morning sermons at 10 30 am and evening talks at 7 30 pm on each Sunday covering topics such as The Devil to Pay Good People in Hiding For ever Getting Ready Re digging the Wells The Pressure of Duty What the Church Means to Me Christ Comes to The Service and The Church Invisible plus a Lord's Supper and vesper service seeking parishioner attendance.
A community pot luck dinner at the Carey Methodist church features a two day institute next week. Attendees are urged to bring a basket and stay for the forenoon program at the high school auditorium. Ensure baskets are left at the church before departure. A 4 pound son named George Ellsworth was born Sunday to Mr and Mrs Howard Kemmerly south of town honoring grandfathers G A Kemmerly and Ellsworth Kear. Friday morning a daughter born to Mr and Mrs Gerald Bradley of Charleston West Virginia, Mr Bradley son of Mr and Mrs W G Bradley of E Findlay Street. A daughter was born Saturday morning to Mr and Mrs Charles Collet north of town.
The Lutheran men of Christ Lutheran church will serve their annual chicken supper on Thursday evening next week February 7 from 5 to 7 in the church parlors. Cafeteria style service will include chicken mashed potatoes gravy noodles pie baked apples pickles jelly and coffee.
Mrs Allan Baker of southwest of town broke her right wrist in a fall on an icy Marion sidewalk on Saturday. Her husband and son Tho burn and daughter Miss Dorcas accompanied her to Upper Sandusky where Dr. Craig Bowman set the arm.
A good crowd attended the A G Collet sale last Thursday afternoon where 26 horses were sold. Prices ranged from $40 to $200 each.
Mr Butcher of Heidelberg College visited the high school last Wednesday to meet seniors interested in college. Grade cards were received as the first semester ends. Friday features Dunkirk teams vs local high school in basketball with band practice and chapel activities noted.
The Carey Philharmonic Society made its first public appearance at the Methodist Episcopal church presenting a varied program conducted by Mrs George Denman with Lucy Laughlin on piano. Local singers filled the sopranos altos tenors and basses list including Miss Maxine Young Mrs Ross Johnson Rev Paul R Clouser and many others with selections from Bach to Handel and Brahms.
Mrs Mabel McLaughlin of Columbus captures the women's singles championship at the Ohio State tournament with a record 593 pins at Adams Recreation Palace. The doubles title goes to Mrs Edith Bueche and Mrs Marge Goggin of Chevoit. Buckeye In ton Insurance Co team to compete in Grand Rapids on Feb 16.
Thirty members attended the Carey Community club gathering at Moose hall on Mance Street. Fred Powell William Pontius and Lon Phillips joined the refreshment committee. John Greer of the county relief office spoke on relief work followed by discussion. Next meeting set for Monday February 25 Ladies Night with A J Ruehle F W Savidge Harvey Savidge in program duties and Frank Miller G R McKee Harry Ehrlich Frederick Rife John Racheter and Charles F Riedel handling refreshments.
Mr and Mrs Elza Jacobs and Mr and Mrs William Coldren with daughter Dorcas attended the funeral of Mrs Sarah Zumbrum at Coldren funeral home in Findlay. Mrs Zumbrum was a sister of Mr Coldren. They then visited Mrs Frank Rader in Fostoria, another Coldren sister, who is seriously ill at her daughter Mrs Elmer Rose’s home.
Mrs. Cecil Doppler and Miss Catherine Riester traveled to Toledo to join their sister Miss Mildred Riester who had an appendectomy at St. Vincent's hospital Tuesday forenoon.
Paul Kennedy from Cleveland arranged a Monday meeting at Dorcas Carey library to discuss the National Housing Act. H E Snyder is temporary chairman and invites builders, painters, plumbers, brick masons and others in Carey to attend. Public support from The Peoples Bank and local business groups is sought to spur $20,000 in modernization work and FHA insured loans for homes stores churches and factories with income-based eligibility.
The Karchers of the west celebrate their 22nd anniversary on January 29 as their daughter Pauline weds Earl Smalley of southeast of the city at St Peter's Catholic Church. The ceremony featured Rev John R Forrer, Lohengrin music, a pink and white reception, and family-style arrangements before the couple plans a eastern Ohio trip and farm life on return.
The Catholic parish invites a Feb 7 social at the Catholic hall for charity. Ladies provide lunch boxes for auction while music by the Happy Grove orchestra of Fostoria fills the evening earning parish funds. Dancing follows the box auction.
Mayor Krebs declares that Ordinance No 26 from August 6 1888 will be enforced. It fines mayors define penalties for obstructing sidewalks while business fronts may use two and one half feet for displays. Complaints say the ordinance is not being obeyed and enforcement begins.
The regular business meeting of the C. L. of C. will be held Monday evening next week February 4. A penny beano will be a featured item.
