Ohio agriculture praised by Lee Rummell at Kiwanis meeting

The Ohio Farmer field editor Lee Rummell told Kiwanis members at Pilgrim House that Ohio agriculture is generally flourishing. He cited rising purchasing power and lighter real estate taxes, diverse crops, market advantages, and AAA aid in refinancing debts. Nearly all members attended, with guests J. T Myers, T. D Romig, Judge Paul Capell, Fred Zweifel, and Aubrey Zweifel present.

Evang elical parsonage damaged by fire

Wednesday afternoon about 445 Rev W Sager pastor of Memorial Evangelical church discovered the parsonage on fire. Carey fire department arrived but could not prevent major damage. Most lower floor furniture saved. clothing bedding and upper floor furniture damaged. Sager and wife papers and books damaged by fire and water. building and contents insured.

Methodist Men Sponsor Special Sunday Service Series

The local Methodist church opens a series of Sunday evening services sponsored by church men. Each week a different group will present music and the pastor will address questions about religion and Christianity. The theme for the first night is How Does Sin Get Into the World. The public is invited to attend and find guidance during troubled times.

Legion minstrel show set for February 25 and 26

Earl Green post of the American Legion will stage a minstrel show in the high school auditorium on February 25 and 26. Eddie Ewald of Newark will direct the show arriving Monday evening to organize performers. Robert O'Connor chairs the committee and calls a meeting for Monday night. Boy Scout Troop No. 29, sponsored by the Legion, was entertained Tuesday night.

Carey High School to Stage Two Operettas February 7

The Carey elementary schools will perform two operettas in the high school auditorium at 8 oclock directed by Miss Mary Finley. The Smiling Sixpence features fourth through sixth graders with a large cast including Betty Ritter Margaret Martin and John Byers among many others. Mother Goose's Garden presents underaged casts with characters such as Mother Goose Bopeep Jack Horner Red Riding Hood and Miss Muffet within a colorful tableau of nursery favorites.

Anniversary Week Planned By Carey District Scouts

The Carey district in Marion Ohio marks 25 years of Scouting with a program week starting February 8. A Jubilee Round-Up at Star Auditorium kicks off the events with all Harding Area troops, followed by a Saturday clothing drive, Boy Scout Church Day, daily activities, and a February 14 parent lunch and Tenderfoot investitures at the high school.

Retires as Carey Postmaster After 38 Years Service

Herbert Newhard Sr. retires after 38 years as Carey postmaster and 10 years as clerk. Commissioned starting in 1898 by McKinley, with stamps from Roosevelt and Taft, later serving under Wilson Harding Coolidge and Hoover. He opened the office at 5 30 daily and worked until 6 00 with a brief lunch, earning public respect for prompt service.

The Carey Community Institute drew about 2 000 attendees across sessions highlighting talks by Rummell of Columbus and Mrs Fred G Cooper of Larne. They stressed character through daily habits and service, plus tax issues and rural life, with music by school bands and the high school orchestra.
