More than 200 farmers from Upper Sandusky area gathered Saturday afternoon to form the Upper Sandusky Commission Co to buy sell and store grain and farm products and to foster a cooperative spirit. The company will be incorporated and a constitution adopted with further steps planned.
The county Woman's Christian Temperance Union met in Upper Sandusky last Saturday afternoon under Mrs Lawrence Cook the president. The group voted to adopt a French orphan and planned an institute in the city at a later date.
O. O. Young traveled to Fredericktown to attend the funeral of his brother in law Mr Scott Smith who died Monday morning. The funeral was held Wednesday morning.
Friday night the Maccabee Ladies held their installation with Mrs. Mina O. Smith of Bellevue as installing officer and Mrs. Ora Howard as lady of ceremonies. Officers installed included Commander Mrs. Jesse Stombaugh and L Commander Mrs. Ed Markley among others. Guests from Carey lodge and nearby Maccabee groups attended. Light refreshments followed and Mrs. Smith departed for Findlay that night.
H D Platt of Middleton Michigan reports five details: unusually warm weather January 22 with doors open, flu and sickness minimal, Middleton escaping influenza epidemic, crops poor last season but wheat improving, beans priced at 38 per 100 pounds, milk at the door $4.18 per 100 pounds and eggs 64 cents per dozen.
Plans are completed for the second annual Father and Son Banquet of the YMCA set for February 12 at Moose Hall. The event aims to strengthen father son relations and is presented as a state and national affair. program and menu to be published next week.
Ralph Beaschler, just released from active Navy service in the wireless section, arrives Monday to visit his parents near town. He trained at Great Lakes Pelham New London and Norfolk where he served on a sub chase. He plans to resume work at the Whitney-Currier music store in Toledo after a Sunday visit.
Rev Isaac N Kalb 81, retired Methodist minister of Lima, wed Mrs Jane Myers 72, also of Lima, a longtime circuit rider and former Bluffton church pastor. The union follows Kalb s many years serving in the Ohio and West Ohio Methodist conferences.
Lester Musgrave reports a December 26 letter from Clarence W Musgrave of Battery A 322nd Field Artillery North American unit in France. Clarence, drafted October 6 1917, went overseas last May and has seen active fighting.

Charles J Brown has sold his 120 acre farm south of town to the Board of Wharton for $20,000. The transfer records show the sale completed recently with the board as purchaser and Brown as seller.
County Treasurer Billhardt completed $261 000 in tax collection and plans to call the grand jury on Tuesday February 4. Obituaries note William Lambert 34 died near McCutchenville and Mrs Joseph Strasser age 25 in Upper Sandusky from pneumonia after influenza. The U S Commission Co was incorporated at 50000 with D C Parker among incorporators. Judge Close entries cover cases including Whelev v Sshlup & Ogan with February 8 to answer. Roy March named to county board of education replacing S S Barrett. News from Upper Sandusky reports the Union Drug Company in court disintegration. The Sycamore pastor J P Stahl resigns to go to Springfield. A marriage license issued to Benjamin Phillips and Hazel Parsell. Local prices show milk eggs butter stable. Litigation includes John LeMott suing Battenfield and Southward to quiet title in Carey. A new jitney line will link Tiffin Sycamore Upper Sandusky via Port Clinton operators. Catherine Lidle dies aged 95 in Upper Sandusky formerly Catharine Schmidt. Scott Smith formerly of Richland township dies in Fredericktown aged 41 from influenza. Sycamore service flag lists 183 stars with 12 golden representing fallen. Consolidation of Wyandot county courts and probate soon in effect under state constitution. Movement to consolidate county and city governments to save expense gains traction.
A bumper mail from France arrives the first of the week lifting spirits as many Carey homes welcome news and letters from the boys overseas. Local residents celebrate the connection and outgoing morale.
Master Edward Sterling of Lackawanna New York died after being struck by a car while attempting to catch a streetcar. Funeral services were held at 9 00 a m at the Methodist church with Rev J M Shimer officiating burial followed at Spring Grove cemetery. Edward's family and several relatives attended from Castalia Bellefontaine Lima and Buffalo.
Mrs Pearl Garn of Troy was moved from Fostoria to her mother's home in Prospect after breaking her leg. The injury occurred at her sister in law's home two weeks earlier. A plaster cast allowed movement by ambulance. accompanying were Mr and Mrs R D Hilty and Mr Garn and children. Doyle Garn joined the group briefly before travel. Mrs Garn is improving nicely.
Six new welcome signs erected at the corporation line on Carey roads advertise “Welcome to Carey” on the near side and “Buy it in Carey” and “Thank you, Call again” on the reverse. Johnson & Miller and C. X. Diller conceived the idea and arranged for construction and painting. The village council provided posts and labor for installation.
Fred Fox son of Mr and Mrs Charles Fox of north of town had a middle ear removal at Walter Reed Hospital Tacoma Park D C after long illness. He previously underwent an operation in France and was very ill but hopes for permanent relief.
Mr and Mrs Elmer Hunter report a letter from their son Albert written January 1 from Westerwald where he and five companions stayed in the front room of a palace after marching through Luxembourg and across the Rhine with the army of occupation.
Sherman Martin of Mt Blanchard operates a portable saw mill on S A Chesebrough’s farm four miles northwest of town. He is cutting lumber for a covered barn yard Chesebrough plans a 40 by 65 foot structure.
On Thursday afternoon the Ladies Aid Society of the Mob church met at Mrs David Heck's home and re elected officers. President is Mrs D C Henry, secretary Miss Ella Gibbs, and treasurer Mrs George Ash.
Edward Riester cut and sold 35 acres of timber on the Reinhart farm on the Base Line. Sherman Martin of Mt Blanchard brought a portable saw mill and sawed the timber into car stock.
Mr and Mrs W D McDonald of north of town have received a German helmet from their son Frank who is with the army of occupation. It weighs three pounds. They have also received a number of fine views of the country from him.
A meeting is announced for this evening at 7:00 at the library to organize a Carey Chamber of Commerce. All men who care for Carey’s welfare are invited to attend to help boost the town.
The Seneca Grain and Elevator Co of McCutchenville paid a 28 percent cash dividend this month. The firm has operated for four years and seven months and had $10,000 in stock unsold but has now sold it after a strong past year. S. A. Wenner, formerly of this city, is manager of the company.
J A Kimmel reports the death of Nathan Burson aged 102 years 6 months 21 days at Shedds Oregon. He was uncle to B M Burson and Miss Rachel Burson.
Lawrence Herndon of the city and son of Jesse Herndon earns notice as the cover designer for the February issue of Woman's Home Companion. He has achieved notable success as an artist.
