Senior General Scholarship Tests Set for Jan 28

Twenty two seniors from the class of 1955 will take the Senior General Scholarship Tests in the study hall on Friday January 28. Top 40 percent of the class qualify for state wide testing. The Girls Athletic Association held its monthly meeting January 20 in the gym with Annabelle Beagle presiding. The group congratulated Nancy Combine on bake sale work. Seniors managed the program with entertainment by Sharon Tong Judy Bleam Carol Snook and a baton routine by Karen Keller. Roxanna McCarley and Joyce Savidge presented a game. Other program committee members included Sandra de Mangestee and chairs Sara Sparks Shirley Young Anh Higgins Edith Coldiron and Sandra Hill.

Northwestern Ohio industrial arts instructors meet in Bowling Green

The group from Northwestern Ohio gathered at Bowling Green State University on Wednesday evening January 19. Dr. C. E. Coober of State Teachers College California Pa spoke as guest. Carey school was represented by Donald Wilson Cloyce D Wentling and Wallace E Blake. The March meeting will be held at the local school.

Carey High honors Claren Baker with Courtesy Award

Claren Baker son of Mr and Mrs J T Baker received the Carey High School Courtesy Award for the week ending January 21. He is a sophomore, active in the high school band basketball team and Agriculture Club with interests in sports and 4 H Club work planning a future in agriculture.

Spanish Club Candy Sale Funds Continue Plan

The Spanish Club met Friday for a regular business session. Judy Bleam announced that 5.25 had been made on candy the club members sold. It was voted to continue selling candy. All dues are to be paid to John Marine by Feb 1. A child supper for parents and members was decided. The program committee announced a special program. Sandra Hablitzel presided at social hour.

Cpl H J Cardwell of Bucyrus presided over the State Highway Patrol Auxiliary meeting in Upper Sandusky at the American Legion hall. The Carey Soroptimist Club held a memorial service for the late Mrs. Theodore Myers at its January meeting hosted by Mrs. BE D Hurd. President W L Stombaugh read the eulogy and Mrs. F D Jackson was named corresponding secretary. The group reported $32 from sold tax stamps and approved Mothers March project plans with an upcoming benefit sale and drawing auction at Mrs Ball's home with Mrs Stombaugh assisting.

Miss Ferne Adelsperger and Mrs. Glenn Jeffers along with Mrs. William Klotz have passed nurse exams and received Ohio registered nurse certificates. Mrs. Jeffers lives in Tiffin and Miss Adelsperger in Toledo. they are twin daughters of local families. Training was at Toledo Hospital. Train Kills Man Injures Wife at Fox Road Crossing

Washington man was killed instantly and his wife Mary Minnich critically injured when their 1950 Chevrolet sedan was struck by a southbound New York Central passenger train at the Fox Road crossing north of Carey at 2:05 p.m. Wednesday. Sheriff’s officers believe the car entered the tracks in poor visibility due to freezing rain. The engine of the car was hurled 171 feet. Mrs Minnich was taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital.
