Life Remembered A B Gibbs Carey Prominent Citizen Dies
A B Gibbs longtime Carey resident died Monday morning January 24 after a brief illness following a Sunday return from church. Born February 22 1831 in Aurora Portage County Ohio he served in the Civil War and later ran a successful Carey grocery business. He left nine children, four sons and three daughters surviving, and was a longtime member of the M G church and several fraternal orders. Interment was in Spring Grove Cemetery with Odd Fellows services and a large funeral turnout.

Montana land purchase signals big farming plans
Glenn Carothers, son of Mr and Mrs J H Carothers, bought 480 acres near Gibson Montana and plans large scale farming. He is eighteen miles from Rigata the nearest railroad town. The couple praise Montana’s opportunities as land remains available with homesteaders selling at sacrifices for cash-strapped families.

Reynolds sells Brown Avenue house to Lewis Sloman
M. C. Reynolds sold his house and lot on Brown Ave to Lewis Sloman. The Reynolds will take possession mid February and reside in the Mrs. Hibbins property on West Main Street until summer, when they will build two new homes on their lot across the Northern Ohio from the Park. Missionary Meeting Held by Woman's Society at Parsonage
The Woman's Missionary Society of the United Evangelical church met Tuesday afternoon at the parsonage led by Mrs. H. D. Shultz as they studied "Among Old Mission Trails." January birthday celebrants Mrs. Shultz Mrs. Constien and Mrs. Grooms served refreshments. Next meeting set for February 15 with Mrs. Jacob Stier.

Funeral for Mrs. Nicholas Steinmetz Held at Our Lady
The funeral of Mrs. Nicholas Steinmetz was held last Thursday morning at 9 o'clock from Our Lady of Consolation Church with Rev. Father Anthony celebrating Requiem High Mass. Operation for appendicitis in Kenton area
A man from northwest of town was taken to Kenton Hospital Tuesday for an appendicitis operation. He was accompanied by his brother Dr. Bame of Alvada and J A Newcomer. His wife and Mrs Newcomer joined after the operation, which was successful. the party returned home Tuesday evening. Mrs Bame and two daughters are guests at the Newcomer home for the week.

Ice Crown Freezes Water in Stand Pipe Depths
During the cold snap water in the stand pipe froze to six feet from the top. As it thawed and was pumped in, water emerged from the top of the tank about three feet before being noticed.
