The group including Mr. and Mrs. George Ash Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Ranger J. A. Smith and H. B Stief depart Wednesday for a two month southern sojourn. They travel to Flomaton Ala where Mr Stief heads to Panama via New Orleans while the others proceed to St. Petersburg. They will later be joined by Mr Stier for a Cuban visit.
The Lincoln Chautauqua Bureau completed the Carey’s Chautauqua contract for the coming year. The agreement covers an annual pilgrimage program with terms under discussion and anticipated scheduling details to be finalized.
The Chau tauqua will not be held before August 22 and the exact date remains unset. The event was moved to accommodate the shrine visit to Our Lady of Consolation on August 15.
Mrs Collins of Delaware and Miss Lucy Straw along with Miss Abbie Burris Miss Nelle McCormick Miss Adah Nichols and Mrs C G Spencer of this city enjoyed Madam Butterfly and Strawflake at the Valentine in Toledo. The performance lasted from three o'clock until seven.
Franklin Preston Newhard died Tuesday night at 9 35 at his parents home on West Main street after a four year confinement to home and a week of momentary death expectancy. Funeral services will be at the Lutheran church Friday at one conducted by Rev Luther Spaid with Carey Lodge 420 F and A M in charge. Interment in Spring Grove cemetery. He was born in Carey March 11 1894 aged 21 years 10 months 20 days and lived in Carey all his life. He attended public schools class of 1912 and served as Alumni president the next year. He studied at Oberlin Conservatory where he showed a talent for piano and later operated the Five and Ten Cent Store. He was active in the Lutheran church Carey Lodge 420 F and A M Carey Chapter 159 R A M Crawford Chapter 168 O E S and held prominent local roles. Survived by his parents and one younger brother John a sister died in infancy an uncle Grove F Newhard of St Louis arriving today.
Mrs. Martha M. Wolf aged 86 died at 2 45 AM at the home of her son Charles F Graves 114% North Main Street after a three week illness. A devout Presbyterian she lived an active church life and was born in Preble County Ohio November 20 1829. She leaves two children Henry I Graves and Charles F Graves, a granddaughter and two great grandchildren. Funeral Thursday at 1 30 PM from 614 West Front Street with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery. Rev Dickens Lewis officiating. Mr and Mrs H F Graves will attend.
Rev John Parlette, pastor of the McCutchenville, Adrian and Crawford M E churches, has suffered from the grip for three weeks yet shows steady improvement and is able to fill his pulpits again.
