The United Brethren congregation plans a spring build on the new corner lot at Patterson and South streets. The current site is for sale as buyers eye redevelopment 2 streets from Worello to South street, a project expected to raise Worello street property values.
The Findlay Branch now runs a single daily round trip from Carey at 11 30 a m to Findlay and back from Findlay at 2 00 p m arriving Carey at 2 55 p m A night service on the Detroit Cincinnati division is discontinued with trains south at 19 and 2 00 a m and north at 3 15 and 14 15 a m
The rubber plant employs about a hundred men and on Monday produced 275 tires. A big annual chamber of commerce meeting is set for Wednesday night February 1 with Bats as speaker and election of officers.
Last Sunday morning at the preaching service it was announced that Rev L P Speaker has accepted the call to become pastor of the local Lutheran church. He comes from Battle Creek Michigan where he has led St Pauls English Lutheran church for three years and helped grow its membership and vigor. Carey community looks forward to much good under his leadership and he plans to begin duties this spring.
Reverend L C Reed of the United Brethren Church will preach in Carey Sunday at 9:00 AM with Sunday school following. Beech Grove services start at 7:00 PM this week and next, with women’s meetings Thursdays at 2:00 PM and men’s meetings Sundays at 2:00 PM.
Carey teams faced Wharton Hi in two games. The girls lost 13 to 17 after leading early, and the boys won 27 to 26 with a strong second half defense. Lineups listed for both teams and a note of Friday’s rematch with Forest Hiat Forest.
The American Legion hosts an indoor fair at Catholic Hall from February 1 to 4 featuring five high class vaudeville acts. Highlights include Camille’s miniature dog circus, Dixie Melody Boys, Suzinetta the cannonball juggler, Rusty Rubes, Donald Clark on the slack wire, and Ed Raymond’s clowns. Roy Bard known as Roy, the ossified boy, weighs 87 pounds and cannot move. Booths are set in the exposition hall with attractions from Majestic Exposition Company of Cleveland.
Beech Grove notes report Sunday services at 10:30 with 9:30 Sunday school. Rev GC V Roop and Rev L C Reed hosted guests, Elmer Tong sang, and powerful revival sermons are being delivered. The Junior choir is popular and a men’s meeting is planned for next Sunday afternoon. A homecoming all day service with community dinner is planned for February 5.
In Toledo, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Patterson visited Bowling Green over the weekend with Mrs. C. C. Rittich. Mr Rit tich is hospitalized in Toledo in critical condition with tuberculosis affecting the lungs. Oxygen therapy aims to aid one lung, offering some hope. The Rit chs left Carey for Bowling Green in October. he came to Carey to serve as auditor for The Carey Tire and Rubber Co.
Charles Kokenge of Zeis Mitchell's hardware suffered torn wrist ligaments after a fall while repairing the furnace at the Methodist church. He was unable to work last week due to the injury.
Mayor Multholand and council members approve numerous January salaries and misc bills totaling a few thousand dollars. Bonds for night police and secretary are sworn, and an ordinance replacing Bond No 154 with No 156 is passed. next meeting Feb 6 at 7 pm.
At a stockholders meeting in the Beck block, The Peoples Telephone Co elected directors G. A. Kennerley John Snook J A Newcomer M H Thomas W C Heck O C Rickle Earl Hunter C V Wentz and A R Herbert. The officers for 1922 were chosen: President G A Kennerley Vice President M H Thomas Secretary J A Newcomer and Treasurer John Snook.
The Cham ber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting on Wednesday evening February 1 at 7 30. Officers for 1922 will be elected and refreshments will be served. Abell, secretary of Findlay, will speak. Full attendance urged for discussions of many matters.
Charles Johnson also known as Pedro Adkinson, longtime Carey Greenhouses employee, lies seriously ill at the Ritter home after three weeks of illness. He is tubercular tested by Dr. A N Zeis and cannot be placed in county care or with an uncle in Columbus due to family constraints. He coughs heavily and spits into cloths that must be burned. Mrs. Ritter seeks clean cloths and financial aid for treatment until a better arrangement is found. Johnson had $200 invested in industrial stock, now inaccessible.
The Cov ered Carpet Tack company plans a new factory here, creating about five thousand jobs with good pay and short hours. Construction starts within ten days on the five acre Henderson property on the city’s west side near the railroad, under Consolidated Construction for J Rufus Wallingford. The deal, rumored closed yesterday by Blackie Daw, will provide immediate work for carpenters bricklayers and hod carriers.
Clarence Kemerley rents the James Shuman farm west of Carey and moves from a farm south of Vanire in March. Mack Starr leaves the Shuman tenant house to stay with his mother on a farm south of town. Kemerley will occupy Shuman’s vacated house while Shuman plans his next steps.
A serious wreck on the Hocking Valley south of Upper Sandusky after 1 AM drenched nineteen cars and derailed passenger trains. Rail officials say nineteen cars were wrecked and trains were detoured via Pennsylvania lines. The cause is not definitely known. the incident marks the worst in the county for years.
The Kiwanis Club of Carey O met at the Galt Restaurant with thirty members present and one visitor attorney R L De Ran of the Tiffin Chamber of Commerce. He spoke on business conditions and the coming year. The next regular luncheon will be Monday Jan 30 at the Galt restaurant.
Benjamin Yentzer aged 83 or 89 died Monday at the home of his grandson in Bellevue after a week of illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday at McCutcheonville Methodist Church led by Rev. Keller. Born January 3 1834 in Pennsylvan ia he moved to near Adrian as a youth with his wife Angeline Hospelhan who died 12 years ago. Surviving children are Mrs. F S Bloom Adrian Mrs W T Fife Atlanta GA John Yentzer Toledo Mrs Mary Radamaker Cleveland and Mrs H W Bish Middleton. He farmed east of Adrian most of his life and was lifelong Adrian Methodist Church member.
Mrs. Robert Musselman daughter of S. N. and Mrs. McBeth of Carey visited family then returned with her two year old Maxine. The Musselmans known in vaudeville perform aerial acts with Ringling Bros and have seasons with Ringling Barnum and Bailey and Sells Floto circuses.
Mrs Wm Lombard was injured Saturday night after slipping on an icy North street sidewalk near R G Spencer’s home while walking to the Legi Haines residence. She suffered a concussion and vomiting, was aided by the Myers children, taken to the Haines home, then returned home and is gradually recuperating.
Mrs J R Miller slipped at her home one mile north of town Monday evening and dislocated her left shoulder. She received medical attention after the fall for the injury.
