Two Men Die in Quarry Dynamite Blast
A premature dynamite explosion at National Lime and Stone Co quarry near Kenton killed J. B. Hingle of Newhard Street and Herschel Updegraff of Brown Avenue while injuring 18-year-old Arthur Oglesbee, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Oglesbee. Hingle and Updegraff died at the scene. Oglesbee was rushed to McKittrick’s Hospital in Kenton where one eye was removed and doctors hoped to save the other. The exact cause remains undetermined with several theories. the blast also hurled debris and caused fatal injuries to the two men. The accident occurred as workers prepared a shot and two youths assisted with dynamite. The bodies were prepared for burial.

Carey Orwig and Karl Trautman of Upper Sandusky arrived Monday to arrange a filling station at the rear of the A. H. Kennerley property on Vance street. They leased the northeast end of the lot from the driveway to the division line with purchase privilege and are negotiating removal of power poles and phone lines in front of the site.

Sunday afternoon at West Main street S M Ranger turned into the W J New Yard drive and another westbound car struck his vehicle. The Overland suffered minor damage while the other car rented to Sutter and Lee's for repairs with a front wheel bent. The Michigan driver, returning home from Florida, claimed the trailer holds valuables but said only bed clothes.
