School News Report Highlights Debates and Activities

Chapel service opened by the senior class with the song Rowing Not Drifting and devotions by Lillian Mitchell. Students performed a piano duet Lucille Montague and Mauring Moyet and Melva Weininger sang two solos. Debates were reviewed by Helen Gottfried and a team with upcoming events. Several students attended a Perrysburg Fremont debate. Evelyn Kear joins Wharton High juniors. Home Ec club demonstrated crepe paper novelties. Mr. Huffman announcements closed the program and visitors included Mrs Finley of Paulding.

Carey Highs Intra mural Games And Marseilles Clash

Last Friday after school Carey High held intra mural games for classes Junior High and parochial, continuing weekly through basketball season. The junior teams posted a 6 3 junior, 8 4 sophomores, 12 5 junior high parochials 12 5 scoreline. Carey girls beat Marseilles 24 20 on a small floor as Wright led scoring with 13 points and Coles and Thomas added 9 each while the boys lost a hard fought game against Marseilles with a rough crowd and clean play emphasized.

Mrs. Adelsperger Dies at 73 in Ohio Community

Laura Alice Keyes Adelsperger died at 3:00 AM at her son in law and daughter's home near McCutchenville following illness since Thanksgiving. She born November 25 1858 at Pemberville lived 72 years 1 month 24 days. Survived by five of seven children including Kenneth Adelsperger and Clair Shireman. Funeral Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church conducted by Rev Clouser with burial at Fountain Cemetery Fostoria.

Vesper Service at Lutheran Church This Sunday

The monthly vester service will be held at the Lutheran church this Sunday at 4 30 o clock. Mrs Walter Myers of Findlay will preside at the organ during special prelude numbers. The vested choir under Mrs B L Wallace will lead and sing several numbers. The community is welcome and Sunday school members will take part for Foreign Mission Day.

Hand Injury Report From Local Timber Incident

Last Saturday Bert Smith of three miles west of town sustained a severe hand injury while sawing wood with a buzz saw. A knot in the wood tipped the stick, throwing his left hand against the blade. All four fingers were cut at the tips and the small finger pulled from the knuckle. The hand is healing nicely and no amputation was necessary.

Carey Farmers Community Club to Hold Meeting

The Carey Farmers Community Club will hold an important meeting Monday evening January 26. A program will be furnished and refreshments served. Final plans are being made for Ladies night to be held Thursday evening February 12 at the Methodist church parlors.

Knights of Columbus to Host Parish Hall Party

The CK of O will entertain wives and families at the parish hall this Thursday evening. The Knights of Columbus organize the event with cards dancing and refreshments. Invitations have been issued by the lodge.

Mrs Bert Theis of north of town is a patient at St Vincent's hospital Toledo recovering from a serious operation performed Friday morning. Mr Theis was with her during the operation.

Death of Reva Arlené Boyce in Scarlet Fever

Reva Arlené Boyce aged 14, youngest daughter of Charles and Alice Boyce, died at home on Clay Street Sunday night from scarlet fever and spinal meningitis after illness since Wednesday. Born June 15 1927 in Carey, she leaves sisters Edna Louise Cordilla May and Clarabel. Private funeral held Monday at 3 o clock, Rev Q O D Myers officiating. Family and friends attended on the porch, with numerous floral tributes from relatives and neighbors.

The 119th anniversary of the founding of the Odd Fellow lodge was celebrated in Fostoria on Friday evening. Mrs. Tate gave a reading and Miss Evelyn Hosafros performed a piano solo. Guests from Carey joined the Fostoria Odd Fellows and Rebekah lodges for cards dancing and refreshments.

Koehler Family Moves to Clover Leaf Dairy Farm

Mr and Mrs Minor Koehler will move March 1 from a farm north of town owned by Harvey Wonder to the Clover Leaf Dairy Farm across from the county fair grounds near Upper Sandusky. The Wonder farm is sold to Ray Lonsway who takes possession March 1.

Daughter Wins Carey Times Subscription On Birth

A daughter born Saturday morning to Mr and Mrs C J Ruffing of Newhard Street is reported as Carey Times first 1931 girl baby. She weighed 7 pounds and on Sunday was christened Donna Lou at Our Lady of Consolation Church with Rev Fr Claude officiating. Sponsors were Mr and Mrs Vernet Ruffing.

Carey Branch dairy sales meeting set for Jan 27

Death of Mrs Antonia Zawodna in Tiffin Rites Held

Mrs Antonia Zawodna died at St Francis Home in Tiffin from apo plexy after three years of illness. Born in Poland she moved to the United States 47 years ago and lived in Toledo before moving to Carey in 1922. She is survived by son Frank and daughter Florence with funeral services held at Our Lady of Consolation Shrine church. Burial followed at St Marys cemetery.

Funeral for Mrs. Ellen Phillips Held at Yaichner Home

Mrs Ellen Phillips died after a bruise on her leg led to bedfast illness. The funeral was held Monday at the Yaichner home near Adrian with interment in Spring Grove cemetery. She was born July 1 1856 in Seneca county and married to Wm J Phillips in May 1878. Surviving are five children, two daughters, a son, a stepson, two sisters, three brothers, 23 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Distal attendees included relatives from Greensburg Pittsburgh Toledo Newark Fostoria Findlay and others.
