Avonell Robison reports on chapel programs and a staff stunt to advertise the 1930 annual. Edward Riester promotes sales, while various clubs elect officers and prepare performances. The Mulvaney Concert Company appears with sacred and college repertoire, and posters display geology work by the Carey High students. Dr. James Guyer spoke at a P T A meeting.
Morehart of the forenoon section taught by Mr. Schuchardt won first prize of 1.50 dollars. Chester Platt of the afternoon section taught by Miss Rudolph won second prize of 0.50 dollars. The afternoon section won the group prize.
Tests were given in country schools this week. Boys selected for parts in two boys quartets under Millicent Warren include Austin Walter Robert McDaniel Tommy Stombaugh John Myers Cloyce Wentling Lamoyne Fagan Jack Heck and Louis Allen. Helen Gottried elected president of the Liberary club Genevieve Jacoby named vice president Lucille Kurtz secretary treasurer A new club name will be voted on at tomorrow's meeting Nicette will be performed by Helen Beebe Margaret Gaster Lucille Kurtz and Tommy Stombaugh Ruth Wright will sing a vocal solo Regular physical education classes begin this week under Mr Schuchardt Girls meet Tue and Thu boys Mon and Wed.
Last Friday night the Carey Reserve teams faced off with McCutchenville in a preliminary game. The Whites led by Platt Hackney Theis Grady and Bleam defeated the Blues Fetter Holden DeWitt Crist and Baughman 14 to 9.
Carey overwhelms McCutchenville 27 to 19 as Carey shows solid offense despite wild passing. Girls lineup includes Nye Holden Keller Montague Jacob Wright with Bame Spitler as subs. McCutchenville uses Weichert Tanner Dible Kaufman Weichert Bookmyer with Chaney sub. Boys game ends 38 15 Carey over McCutchenville.
Tomorrow night the Carey boys and girls travel to Marseilles for the season opener. Last year the first games against Marseilles set the tone, and Carey aims to win both contests with strong performances from key players.
The calendar lists midyear interschool games by grade groups across January to February. Senior teams face a mix of juniors parochial sophomores and freshmen while junior and seventh eighth grade brackets also collide.
The PTA will hold a bake sale Saturday January 18 starting at 10 00 at the Rest Room. Pies cakes rolls and hot doughnuts will be sold. Those needing doughnuts delivered should call phone R 240.
Two farmers Fred Willett and L A Kramer found success on land once deemed worth little three miles west of Moore Haven Florida. They planted 40 acres in beans and tomatoes with some eggplant and peppers, shipping beans to Northern markets while hoping other locals try similar small crop ventures next year. Kramer raised seed beans for Florida markets last summer and shipped green pod beans to Philadelphia Baltimore Washington New York and Cincinnati.
George W. Rigdon of Carey died Sunday night at St. Rita's hospital Lima after a hernia operation complication. He was 35, survived by parents A W and Mrs. Rigdon of Lima and siblings, with a sister in Tiffin and a brother in Lima and two step children. Funeral at Sibert's in Lima followed by honors from family and friends.
A three foot wide sink hole appeared between the double tracks of the Hocking Valley a mile north of town. Water stood 2 to 3 feet below the surface prompting a flagman and trains to slow to 15 mph while investigators traced the cause to a broken cast iron pipe and a temporary repair.
Sixteen attended the first Home Care of the Sick lesson Tuesday evening at the library for Farm Bureau women and friends. Mrs M C Yost Mrs J A Vaughn assisted by Mrs Urban Wangler and Mrs Ervin Wentling led an instructive demonstration. The second lesson is set for next Tuesday with Mrs Homer Wonder and Mrs Wentling as leaders. Public invited.
The Jennie Larmonth Missionary Society will meet Monday evening with Mrs. BE S Burson as hostess. Mrs Wayne Allen will assist, and Mrs Howard DeWitt and Mrs M Pullen will lead. Members should bring sheets or white material to be made into hospital bandages for Gis ter Jennie Liberia mission.
The 9 pounds 4 ounces son was born Monday morning to Mr and Mrs Ernest Smiley of Muncie Street. He is the first 1930 boy reported to the Carey Times. the couple will receive the Times free for a year. The twins have not arrived. the big question is who will they be.
Beano Party scheduled for Tuesday February 4 at the parish hall hosted by the Young Ladies Sodality of Our Lady of Consolation Church.
A regular meeting of Earl Green Post American Legion is scheduled for Tuesday evening January 21. Members are reminded to attend and participate in post affairs.
G H Follette, a Toledo jeweler, attended the tragedy at his son Kenneth Follett’s home on 833 Dorr Street. Mrs Mabel Follett was shot and killed and Kenneth Follett wounded when a roomer, Fred Stahl, aged 57, entered the couple’s bedroom and fired a pistol before dying at St Vincent's hospital. The couple’s five year old son slept through the incident as police and ambulances arrived. Follett was hospitalized with head wounds in a Mercy facility.
A plumbing truck carrying J. F. Dible and Heart Dible was hit head on by a car driven by Edith Renshaw in Columbus at Fourth and High streets. The truck rolled over twice. Heart Dible suffered a lip gash while Joe Dible escaped. Renshaw, a Philadelphia native and Ohio State sophomore, claimed insurance on her car as of yet no adjuster had visited.
Announcement reports the marriage of Mrs Kathryn Focht to Dr C S Bauslin. The ceremony occurred Tuesday evening November 26 at Lewisburg Lutheran church with Rev R B McGiffen officiating. The couple will reside at the Ambassador in Washington after Lutheran Board of Education moves to that city.
E L Matteson crossing watchman Pennsylvania announces the marriage of his daughter Miss Gertrude Matteson to Mr George Dewey Wisebaker of Carey. The ceremony occurred at Lima on Monday in January. The couple resides with the bride's father union. The groom is the son of the late Mr and Mrs Guy Wisebaker.
Retiring Crawford township clerk B E Hudson settled with the state for the balance of 1929 hunting licenses he had sold. He had sold 571 licenses last year and about 4 000 during his eight years in office.
Telegram announced the death of William Burson of Kankakee to Jack Updegraff on Sunday. Burson's wife had died November 22, 1929, leaving the family in Illinois with grieving relatives.
An informal town survey finds Carey growing with fewer empty houses than a year ago. The mood is upbeat as housing improves and residents note new activity across the community.
The GC K of O announces a social in their hall next Thursday evening January 25. All members and their families and friends are invited to attend.
An 8-pound daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Leo Bradman six miles south of town on Monday morning at their home.
The Blues beat the Whites in the Kiwanis membership contest during a noon meeting. Bassett Evangelistic Party members entertained, featuring P B Burress Milan, F X Twig Italy Texas, and P E Zartmann Winona Lake Indiana with songs and a musical saw duet.
Charlie Bell of Findlay will lead the revival at the M B church starting February 16. The pastor will preach under the slogan A Rational Revival with no high-pressure emotion or hell-fire fear appeals. Each meeting will end by 9 o clock.
Adrianna Rebekah Lodge in Adrian installs officers led by Deputy President Mrs Lula Clouse and assistants N G Liza Correll V G Fleta Amerine and others. An oyster supper followed served by the social committee.
American Legion and K of C present a combined minstrel show at the high school auditorium on Monday and Tuesday February 10 and 11 1930. A Farm Bureau backed demonstration titled How to Care for the Sick will be held Friday afternoon January 17 at a west town residence. The event invites all interested residents to attend.

Warsaw readers recall the life of Mrs Dustman in Carey with a prayerful tribute from a friend. The letter describes her 18 months of quiet suffering, steadfast faith, and uncomplaining service, praising her as a devoted wife and gracious neighbor. Funeral services were held January 5 at the Bibler Funeral Home with Rev. C. P. Gibbs officiating.
The newly elected Board of Public Affairs met and discussed mutual interests with Carey Electric Telephone Co. manager John Brown. Plans for better service were approved and the board invites public criticism and suggestions via the secretary. Fire Chief Ilo Wonder will be consulted next.
Attorney General Gilbert Bettman approved bonds of the Carey Pitate school district Wyandot county totaling 120000. The Retirement Board of the Ohio State Teachers Retirement System purchased the bonds to remodel and improve the current school building and to construct additional fireproof classroom rooms in the district.
Mr and Mrs J T Myers traveled to Cleveland to be with their daughter Frances Myers who underwent a serious operation at Lakeside hospital. Frances had recently joined the hospital staff as an operating room nurse and her condition followed the operation tied to a suspected kidney issue after mumps.
Card of Thanks from Etta Vi Carter expresses gratitude to Theran Church members for flowers and cards and to friends neighbors and relatives for assistance during illness of her son.
