Fire destroys Petersburg area home of the Bakies family
Relatives report a severe loss for MP Louis Bakies and family near Petersburg Indiana as a fire swept through their oil lease home last Tuesday. Mrs Bakies and two daughters narrowly escaped as flames and a collapsing ceiling trapped their belongings. Only the clothes they wore survived. Mrs John Miller of this place suffered property losses in the blaze. The Bakies had formerly lived in Carey.

Tragic Death of C. X. Diller in Railroad Accident
The community learned Wednesday noon that C X Diller was killed instantly by a Big Four train near Bluffton. The coroner ruled death accidental. Diller, born August 25 1878, left a widow Rose Davy and three children Emory Ruth Howard, plus siblings and relatives. Funeral set for Friday at 1:30 PM at the Methodist church in Carey with broad local attendance.

Two Carey men G A Cummins and Charley Harris were arrested early Tuesday on charges of disturbing the peace and for being with a minor. They were arraigned before Mayor Franklin J. Stalter.
