Freshman Madonna Dibling of Carey High School earns the weekly Courtesy Award for January 7. She is the daughter of Anthony J and Mrs. Dibling of route 2. Madonna aims for nursing or business education after graduation. she enjoys reading sewing and algebra is her favorite subject.
The Blue Devils beat Ada 44 to 38 with reserves led by White and Stone. Ada’s Ernie Boutwell scored 23 as the varsity won the next game, while local star Richard Phillips led with 20. The reserves defeated Harpster 54 to 35 with Rall scoring 11 as Sizemore Kloepfer and White supported. The team hosts Sycamore Friday and travels to North Baltimore Tuesday to face Micklovic.

Laurence Edmunds Straw 78 died at Wyandot Memorial Hospital Upper Sandusky at 4 am Monday January 10 1955 from coronary thrombosis He collapsed while dining with Mrs Straw at the home of Grace Brinkerhoff in Upper Sandusky Straw was born in Carey September 12 1876 a son of David and Margie Straw He taught general science in the Lakewood Ohio high school system and later retired to Carey where he pursued nature and landscaping with extensive plant work and park system projects He was married to Edith Van Vleet and had two children Sarah Straw Phillips and H Kirtland Straw
A midweek traffic collision on Route 15 near Carey Motors injures Mrs Mary E Clark and Otto F Bratt. The accident occurred around 4 30 p m Friday with ambulance crews transporting the injured to Salem township hospital. Airman Leonard Longanecker son of Mrs Mildred Longanecker of E North Street was separated from the Air Force at Alexandria Louisiana on January 5 after four years in service. He arrived home last Thursday afternoon and served as a jet mechanic with overseas assignments of nineteen months including three months at Thule AFB Greenland and nine months at Goose Bay Labrador.
First Methodist Church will observe Minister's Day at 10 30 a m Sunday Jan 16 to recruit new ministers and honor those in active service retirement and those who have died Robert Gardner charge lay leader will lead the service with Cloyce W Lanning and Paul A Woods assisting Lanning is lay member to the Annual Conference and chairman of the Pastoral Relations and Pulpit Supply Committee Woods is Church School superintendent
