Front View of Garey’s School Building Dedication Jan

Carey's new school building at Garey will be dedicated during an open house Sunday afternoon January 9 at 3 o clock in the new auditorium. State Attorney General William O'Neill of Columbus will speak. The project followed a 3480,000 bond issue approved in November 1952 and involved extensive remodeling and new facilities across departments.

Volleyball class finals crown Juniors over peers

Week of Dec 21 ended the Volleyball class tournaments with the Juniors defeating all three other teams. Seniors lost only to the Juniors while Sophomores beat Freshmen. Sophomores only won against Freshmen. Teams were chosen by Glenda Smiley and Mrs. Hawk with notable effort selecting the sophomore squad.

Locals Lose On Overnight Jaunt

The Carey high school five traveled to Columbiana December 28 with 16 players riding private cars for a 160 mile trip. Columbiana defeated Carey 78 to 50 as Corron and Sizemore were held to 10 points each. The trip featured a postgame dance and meals, plus a nearby double header set for Ada on Friday January 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Vincent Brown Elected Carey School Board Head

Vincent Brown was chosen president of the Carey Board of Education for the upcoming year with Allan Smith Jr. named vice president. The retiring president Forest Davis along with Dr Harry Hosafros and Harry Myers remain as members as the board reorganized Monday night.

Meter Receipts Fall Short Despite Installations

Clerk Auditor Zenith McKaghey reports 1954 meter receipts totaling 7 456, down from 7 614 in 1953. December income also declined from 714 in 1953 to 626.50 this year. Since 1950, meters have produced 37 497.50 in total receipts.

Postal Receipts Show Growth At Garey Office In 1954

The Garey post office reported 1954 total postal receipts of 35 436.92 dollars, up 6 percent from 1953. Money orders issued reached 274 460.72 dollars with fees of 3 728.39. Postal savings issued were 70 391 dollars, with 71 704 paid out and 3 198.76 interest. December receipts lagged 1953 by about 200 dollars, while November rose about 500.

Village Council okays two major appropriations and plans

The Carey village council approved Ordinance No. 460 allocating 495 07 85 for 1965 and Resolution No. 369 creating a Sewer Plant Improvement Fund with staged transfers from the Sewer Fund. They also adopted Resolution 370 naming Peoples Bank Co. as depository for 1955 and approved water main work under New York Central tracks.

Cramer To Head Wyandot County Commissioners

A.R. Cramer of Wharton was elected president of the Wyandot county commissioners for the coming year. H.B. Keller of Carey and Ross A. Winter of Upper Sandusky will serve with him. Charles Reed Jr. was reappointed as commissioners' clerk. The group prepared the 1955 appropriation, inspected the sheriff's department, and set a bounty for wildlife: $5 for foxes and 25 cents for crows. Fox four feet and crow heads to sheriff and township clerks respectively.

G A A Christmas Potluck Party at School Cafeteria

The G A A held a Christmas party on December 16 at 6 30 p m in the school cafeteria. Decorations enhanced the setting. After dinner a talent program featured Andra Hill Evelyn Wilson singing Sisters Sharon Tong Carol Snook and Judy Bleam singing Rudolph Roxanna McCarley reading The Night Before Christmas with a sack verse twist Connie Downing and Linda DeAmicia performing Frosty the Snowman tap dance. Christmas carols followed and gifts were exchanged.

Christmas Meeting of the Latin Club

The Latin Club held a Christmas meeting on December 17. Gifts were exchanged and carols were played on a phonograph as each girl in the club ate lunch in Mrs Newhard's room. Fudge and cookies baked by the girls were served as dessert.

Library Board Re-elects Officers

Dorcas Carey Public Library board re elected officers at the annual meeting Monday evening. Jung as president, John Greer as vice president, Paul Heck as clerk and treasurer, Miss Carolyn Newhard as librarian and Miss Newhard as assistant librarian. Other members include Wallace E Blake, Dr Ralph Vogel, Mrs George Newhard, Mrs Dale Frazier and Mrs Walter Klein.

Carey Farmers Club Highlights Africa Trip Photographs

The Carey Farmers' Community Club met December 27 at the Knights of Columbus hall. Dr. N G McDaniel presented pictures from his Africa hunting trip. The club set February 21 for the annual Ladies' Night banquet and scheduled the next meeting for January 31 with Delmar Grubel Delmer Lortz as program committee and Walter Klein Charles Walter handling refreshments.
