First-Aid Card Awards From Carey High School Class

The Wyandot Red Cross chapter sponsored a last week session at Carey high school for bus drivers from Carey McCutchen ville Wharton and Sycamore. Carey drivers Earl Hetzel Chester Platt Luther Ritter Paul Krupp and Wesley Phillips received first-aid cards valid for a period of years verifying their ability to administer first aid in emergencies.

Busy six week basketball schedule ahead

The team faces a packed six week period with key Mid-State League games. They travel to Marysville January 6 and face Salem January 10 at Carey and Rich Wood January 13. Home slate includes Salem January 10 and five January games at home culminating January 31 against Sulphur Springs, with Ada January 24 Clyde January 27 and Marysville January 26 among the league dates. Tax Books Open In Wyandot County January 21

Wyandot county treasurer Karl F. Kraus says the 1949 real estate tax books will not be open until about January 21. Residents planning to leave the county for several months should leave or mail their addresses to the treasurer's office. Tax books will close in 1950 on March 25.

Midnight Mass Opens Holy Year at Our Lady of Consolation

The Holy Year 1950 proclaimed by Pope Pius XIII unfolds with a global decree allowing Midnight Mass in all parishes. Our Lady of Consolation in Carey held a New Year service from 11:00 p m December 31, 1949 to 1:00 a m January 1, 1950 led by Rev Ronald Pregliasco with Rev Fidelis Van Draemel delivering the sermon. The Mass was celebrated by Very Rev Ambrose Finnegan with Rev Marcellus Lell and Rev Pregliasco assisting. John Windan led ceremonies.

Montague Purchases Shumaker Shoe Repair Shop

William Montague has purchased the Lewis Shumaker shoe repair shop on S Vance street and moved the equipment to the Jacob room west of the library. He will open his new shop Friday morning with new equipment and will do all shoe repair work. The Lighthouse electric shop occupies the front of the room. Mitten and Lameys restaurant on S Vance Street was broken into Sunday night. About 75 dollars was taken after entry through the back door. Burglary likely occurred between midnight and 4 am. No arrests have been made.
