Norman Zahn of Zahn Insurance Agency visited Carey High School on January 4 to discuss investment in life insurance and making insurance a career. He warned that drivers aged 14 to 25 cause most accidents, driving up insurance costs. The Economics class appreciated the real world talk.
A committee led by Persis Newhard Tom Gibbins and Mr Wentling visited Gray's Printing Company in Fostoria during Christmas vacation to order the Caryatid 1950 cover. The group aimed to advance the project with the new cover design.
FBI in town confers with Police Chief on two October payroll checks for 3682 dollars cashed at Jlmer's garage and Crawford store. Two men and a woman linked to torn blank checks from a Detroit luggage concern were arrested in Rome, Ga, with more than 200 bad checks traced to the scheme.
Justus lodge No. 393 Knights of Pythias held a regular meeting Tuesday evening with John Cole presiding. Following the business session next Tuesday evening the rank of page will be conferred on a class of candidates. Refreshments will be served. John Cole C C Dale Weaver Sec.
Public invited for a dance night this Thursday from 8 30 to 11 30 at Catholic hall. Mixed round and square dances with music by the Note Crackers of Findlay. Admission 50.
The P. R. S. club will meet this Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Clarence Wenner northeast of Carey.
Crawford township trustees elected Dean Wright as chairman and Ervin Wentling as vice chairman. E. G. Snyder and C. C. Thome fill the board and township clerk roles. They plan appointing a justice of the peace and a constable after the November election. Ridge and Salem townships also named leaders and clerks in early January. The county group elected Kimmel as chair and Wentling as vice chair, with Noon paneling state duties and talks on roads and the new super highway. The state organization meets January 18 to 21 in Columbus.
On January 3 the Our Lady of Consolation school lunch program began with 125 pupils enjoying meat loaf potatoes and gravy carrots celery bread and milk or peaches. For the 4 day week ending Friday 508 lunches were served. Repairs continue in the parish hall to equip the kitchen and dining room with a dishwashing machine electric refrigerator roasters and a large gas range. Mrs. Margaret Yost and Mrs. Maurice Steinmetz are praised for preparing and serving appealing lunches.
A 1940 Plymouth five passenger coupe owned by Alvin Crow coasts down a sloped driveway on Glen avenue and into a moving New York Central freight train No. 170 near Carey. Alvin Crow and his wife were visiting relatives at 219 Glen avenue when the crash occurred.
The Mary-Martha class of Christ Lutheran Sunday school will meet at 8 00 p.m. Monday January 16 in the home of Mrs L C Treece 426 W Findlay Street The committee in charge includes Mrs Martha Spensler Mrs Paul F Richardson and Mrs Edward Adams.
Chesapeake and Ohio trims service in Carey by removing No 35 Columbus to Toledo and No 36 Toledo to Columbus trains starting January 9 under an Interstate Commerce Commission order. Fourteen workers laid off. no other through trains affected yet.

Upgrades include 8 miles of 115 pound rail with cost 136000, 34 miles of 112 115 pound rail Akron to Delphos, removal of 90 pound rail to replace 60 pound in sidings, 412000 tie plates at 8500, a new 1500 HP Fairbanks Morse diesel switcher at 140500, Diesel Shop at Brittain plus 7800 for Brittain Delphos servicing facilities, steel bridges at Plymouth Carey for 312000, steam heat replaced by Ohio Edison system at Ak ron General Office cost 5000, automatic interlocker at Carey shared cost 13300, totaling 370000.
Christian Mothers of Our Lady Of Consolation parish host a card party for husbands and friends Sunday January 15 at 8 p m in the parish hall. Chairs include Mrs Herman Derr and Mrs John Wiggerman with a long list of committee members. Prizes and lunch. admission 25 cents. Come and bring your friends.
The American Legion Tide of Toys drive is extended for another week, inviting Carey children to donate new or used toys for European children. Donors should include name and address with the gift. calls to 3751 or 359 connect to pickup, or toys may be left at the Legion club on S Vancé street. Carey has provided little support to date.
A Legion shuffleboard event welcomes both young and old players for plenty of games and enjoyment. Ladies are invited to join.

Four Carey youths suffered a minor collision on the way home from the Rose Bowl while returning from Pasadena. In a sleet storm in Joplin Missouri their 1946 Chevrolet skidded into a gasoline truck stopped at a hill intersection. No injuries were reported and the travelers continued by bus, arriving in Carey Friday evening.
The Priscilla Guild of Christ Lutheran Church will hold its regular monthly meeting this Thursday evening at the church. Mrs Paul Burson leads the devotional, and Miss Betty Clouse presents the program. Hostesses are Mrs Earl Robison and Mrs Dale Thomas. Elmars Evele, guest speaker, and his wife, now reside with Mr and Mrs W L Hoff on E South street.

Forest Davis of Crawford was elected president of the Carey board of education at Tuesday’s reorganization. He fills the unexpired term of Dan Weber and will serve two years. Officers include Vice President D. J. Frazier and Clerk Miss Jennie Steen. Re-elected for new four year terms were Russell Gottfried Harry Bowman and Dr Hosalitos.
Four suspects visited Bernard Jacobs Soda Grill and the Dutch Mill on Route 213 in Carey, unlocked coin containers, and removed money. A Chicago company collector found tampered machines, and a motorist later saw an object dumped by an Illinois tagged car near the Dutch Mill.
Carey Kiwanis members will mark the 35th Kiwanis International anniversary with a 6 15 PM January 16 gathering at Gibbs restaurant. The 1950 budget and standing committees were approved at the regular meeting led by President George Snyder. The anniversary program centers on the theme Aggressive Citizenship Safeguard of Freedom as the club joins 3000 chapters nationwide.
The Carey Implement Store at 1285 S Vance Street will hold a special dairy equipment demonstration on Tuesday evening January 17 at 800 o'clock. The program will show actual milking of cows milk cooling and proper handling of all equipment. Refreshments will be served. No charge.
Myron Clingman has purchased Dunns restaurant at 128 E Findlay Street from George Dunn and took possession on January 1. Dunn has not announced his future plans.
A Social Security Administration representative from the Marion field office will be at the municipal building in Carey on Tuesday January 17 at 300 PM to assist the public with inquiries.
