Trustees Organized across three townships in 1950

Crawford township trustees elected Dean Wright as chairman and Ervin Wentling as vice chairman. E. G. Snyder and C. C. Thome fill the board and township clerk roles. They plan appointing a justice of the peace and a constable after the November election. Ridge and Salem townships also named leaders and clerks in early January. The county group elected Kimmel as chair and Wentling as vice chair, with Noon paneling state duties and talks on roads and the new super highway. The state organization meets January 18 to 21 in Columbus.

Catholic School Opens Cafeteria

On January 3 the Our Lady of Consolation school lunch program began with 125 pupils enjoying meat loaf potatoes and gravy carrots celery bread and milk or peaches. For the 4 day week ending Friday 508 lunches were served. Repairs continue in the parish hall to equip the kitchen and dining room with a dishwashing machine electric refrigerator roasters and a large gas range. Mrs. Margaret Yost and Mrs. Maurice Steinmetz are praised for preparing and serving appealing lunches.

A 1940 Plymouth five passenger coupe owned by Alvin Crow coasts down a sloped driveway on Glen avenue and into a moving New York Central freight train No. 170 near Carey. Alvin Crow and his wife were visiting relatives at 219 Glen avenue when the crash occurred.

Auto Accident Returns from Rose Bowl Trip

Four Carey youths suffered a minor collision on the way home from the Rose Bowl while returning from Pasadena. In a sleet storm in Joplin Missouri their 1946 Chevrolet skidded into a gasoline truck stopped at a hill intersection. No injuries were reported and the travelers continued by bus, arriving in Carey Friday evening.

Forest Davis of Crawford was elected president of the Carey board of education at Tuesday’s reorganization. He fills the unexpired term of Dan Weber and will serve two years.
