Four new gas ranges and two electric ranges will join the home economics department. Ohio Fuel Gas Co will supply gas ranges gratis for advertising and replace them with new models upon changes. Hotpoint will provide two electric ranges under a plan that updates models. Bowman Electric Store sells Hotpoint ranges in Carey. The addition will bring six kitchen units to meet rising enrollment.
Freshman class hosted a Sweater Swing semester party with dancing to start and end the evening. The entertainment featured continued dancing and lively socializing among attendees.
Carey High School observed a Christmas week with Hi Y and Y Teens meetings, caroling with Hi Y and F H A members, a senior class potluck, and the fourth annual Concert Band Christmas concert. Y-Teens planned January 2 meeting. Miss Clagett's classes presented a Friday program. multiple classes held exchanges and parties as the season closed.
Home Economics classes in Wryandot County contributed to the Red Cross with sewing items including 652 Dilan kets 49 gowns and trimionos 62 diapers bonnets bibs and several pairs of boots all under Miss Marion Shook. Cooking classes prepared various candies and cookies for Christmas festivities.
A 3 reel silent movie presented to the high school student body covers the period after the Revolutionary War. It depicts Hamilton assuming control of the Confederation finances and establishing credit, and also portrays Washington's inauguration as first president and the rebellion against excise taxes.
American Legion post No 344 participates in the Tide of Toys program to collect new or good used toys for distribution to needy children in war torn Europe. The campaign aims to finish by New Year's with toy pickups arranged by calling the Legion or leaving toys at the American Legion hall on S Vance Street.
The Christmas Eve candlelight service at Christ Lutheran Church drew 360 attendees. Dr. ELE H Flack of Hamma Divinity School led the service and sermon. Next Sunday January 1 1950 the congregation will hear Dr Flack again with Holy Communion in morning worship.
A regular Carey Farmers' Community club meeting at the K of C hall featured F K Cassel, Wyandot county representative to the general assembly, who spoke on recent state laws. Music by Joan Platt and Paul Wonder with Judy Dible at piano. Delmer Lortz served as secretary treasurer.
Atty F K Cassel announces re election bid for the Ohio representative seat from Wyandot County. He has served two terms and is circulating petitions as he pursues a third term amid strong indications of reelection.
A team including W Mitten D Mitten H Brown Fr Robert and G Walbarn bowled 3023 to place 22nd at a Findlay tournament. The winning team scored 3174 while 11651 teams from across Ohio participated.
Ernest Dunn was released from Findlay hospital on Sunday after fracture of his right hip in December. He will remain confined to bed about fourteen weeks longer.
Henry Pieracini chief of police expresses gratitude to those who remembered Carey police department members during the holidays.
The Lanning Motor Sales will be closed for inventory on Monday and Tuesday January 2 and 3. Local customers are urged to plan visits accordingly and call ahead for service scheduling.
America's favorite pastime at the Eagles each Friday evening. Local schedule emphasizes casual games and community gathering around the Eagles field and related activities.
Don Risner Bad Hamm Jerry Risner and Roy Pio Jr plan a West trip to witness the Rose Bowl between Ohio State University and the University of California. They will visit other points of interest during the auto journey with families listed as their guardians.
Christmas Day guests fill homes across Upper Sandusky Findlay and nearby areas. Families host relatives from Glen Ellyn Akron Carey Toledo and other cities with dinners and Christmas exchanges.
Levi Haines and Jonathan Sample left Ohio in 1849 for California gold fields. Haines returned years later with gold pieces a ring and a watch case while Sample stayed on. Their families in Adrian Carey and nearby towns preserve relics and memories of the Forty Niners.
Christmas gatherings list numerous Toledo area residents and guests visiting relatives over the holiday. Individuals include Charles Kestner and Mrs Nelle Myers in Toledo, Mrs Nora Brashares visiting Mr and Mrs C L Shumate, and many others from Detroit Findlay Perrysburg Columbus and Upper Sandusky.
On Wednesday afternoon last week two dual wheels from a eastbound truck and trailer smashed the Pontius filling station after an axle broke near the CC O tracks. The front door was torn out and other damage occurred. The truck owner was Capital City Products Co. Columbus. The driver was uninjured.
Mr and Mrs George Remlinger move from the John S Fox property on East North Street to their newly built six room two bath frame home on Patterson Street. Half the household goods were moved Monday with the rest to follow after two more rooms are completed this week. The residence sits on an 82 acre farm purchased years ago from the estate of the late Miss Laura Stevens. Mr and Mrs Izaak Walton and family of Newhard Street will occupy the East North Street property vacated by the Remlingers.
Private First Class Francis F Wise 18 son of Mr and Mrs Artie A Wise Box 205 Wharton Ohio serves with Company G 82nd Infantry Regiment 4th Infantry Division on Honshus northern tip in Japan His job is rifleman in the Fourth Platoon He enlisted August 3 1948 and trained at Fort Bragg NC After training he had a T day delay to visit family before overseas assignment
Gene Newell son of Mr and Mrs Gail Newell of E Findlay street Richard Brownlee of Rocky River Thomas Gregg of Jamestown NY and Robert Casper of Berea left Wednesday for Mexico City to study the winter quarter at Mexico City college They will return to Ohio March 17 They are Baldwin Wallace college students going to Mexico City through a transit system Gene is a junior in business administration at Baldwin Wallace
Three Carey students are among 1307 Wittenberg College students beginning a two-week Christmas vacation on December 21. Named are Joyce Snyder daughter of Mr and Mrs George W Snyder 660 Findlay Street Lloyd Hill son of Mr and Mrs Liboyd BE Hill 247 Glen Avenue and Frederick Snobarger son of Mr and Mrs John Snobarger 613 West Findlay Street.
George Lowery aged 75 a native of Carey suffered an apoplectic stroke at his home in Julia Ohio early last week A Mrs E G Snyder left Carey for Julia Tuesday to be with her brother Word received by Mr Snyder states Lowery is improving Mrs Lowery has been ill Lowery left Carey in 1941
Earl Green post 344 of the American Legion will meet at 8 30 p m Monday January 2 The group notes strong attendance at nine recent meetings and urges continuation of the good work Kermit Peterson post commander.
The American Legion auxiliary will hold its December meeting Friday at 8 00 p m in the evening and discuss holiday plans and club affairs.
Carey Varsity drops a tight home game 46 45 as McCutchenville edges ahead. Loniganecker hits 4 11 in the fourth quarter while Risner scores 10 for Carey. McCutchenville top scorers are Kisseberth 20 and Parken 14.
