Public School News reports Carey Junior High stages its first operetta The Band Wagon with a large cast including Eddie Smith Donald Dunn Hal Brown and more The Blue and White basketball team falls to Vanlue 25 26 in a tight home game and previews a next matchup against Sycamore with spirited fan support.
A 1100-pound baby was born early New Year morning to Mrs Dorothy Clouse at Memorial Hospital Fremont. The child’s mother is Mrs Char lene Alvina Clouse with the father Charles A Clouse. The family, previously near Clyde, now resides with Mrs Clouse’s parents Mr and Mrs J W Iutz east of Cavey. The baby weighed about 9 pounds at birth and joined six other children in the household.
A county wide Farm Bureau gathering in the Northwest District No 1f will be held at Wood's hall in Upper Sandusky at 8 o clock Monday evening. A good program has been planned. Come and enjoy yourself.
Crawford chapter 168 C E S installs 1939 officers including Worthy Matron Mrs Paul C Goff and Worthy Patron Carl Krout. Miss Elsie Howard installs with assistants. visitors from nearby towns attend. Next, Justus lodge Knights of Pythias prepares to confer the rank of Knight with Chester Vogel guiding installations.
The Ca rey F F A Chapter held a meeting in the high school agriculture room selecting committees for the F F A banquet. Harold Musgrave and Donald Reinhart join decorating while Francis Hewitt and Eugene Liming are on invitations. John Baker was chosen to represent the chapter at the Leadership Conference during farmers week in Columbus. Walter Jones and Earl Caudill were picked for the parliamentary procedure contest set for January 21 at the high school. Refreshments followed, and the next meeting is February 7.
The Woman's Missionary Society and the Jennie Larmonth circle of Christ Lutheran church will meet for a joint session at Mr. Paul R Clouser's home Monday at 2 o'clock. A special program is planned and friends are invited to attend.
Carey entertained at the Moose pub in Findlay with an original ope dance and harmonica selections. Mr Kinsinger also performed at 3 AM New Year’s morning at the Kin-Wa-Low restaurant in Toeda.
The Dorcas Bible class of the Methodist Sunday School will meet Thursday evening at Mrs Ella Smiths home on West Findlay Street. Mrs George Ash and Mrs A J Lantz will assist as hostesses.
Section I of the Fidelis Study Club will meet Thursday evening January 12 at the home of Mrs C C Simonis on W Findlay street. The lesson study will be The Holy Eucharist.
The Pythian Sisters schedule installation of 1939 officers this Thursday evening at 8 o'clock in Castle Hall. Mrs. Chester Vogel serves as installing officer with Mrs. F. L. Moyer as grand senior and Mrs. V. S. Chesebro as grand manager assisting. Newly installed officers include Myrtle Perkins as Most Excellent Chief, Mrs. David Lasley as Past Chief, E. C. Harshberger as Excellent Senior, J. A. Haines as Excellent Junior, C. C. Carr as Manager, R. M. McDowell as Mistress of Records and Correspondence, L. L. Rowland as Mistress of Finance, Mrs. Margaret Herbert as Protector, and Ed Weaver as Outer Guard.

Eddie Hans and Ruth Ingels performed their "The Basin Street Flea Hop" before Southern Dancing Masters in New Orleans. News reels from M-G-M and Fox Movietone captured multiple shots, with front page photos appearing in New Orleans daily papers.

A correction notes that Mrs William Donelson did not host Christmas Day dinner. The meal was served at the home of Mr and Mrs F A Miller on E South Street, with Mrs Donelson among the guests.
The 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Searfoss will be observed Sunday January 8 1939 at their home southwest of Wharton with a noon family dinner, open house 2 to 5 and 7 to 9. They married January 6 1889 at the same place. Officiating minister was Rev A Powedll of Tiffin. They have three children Virgil Searfoss Delmer Searfoss and Mrs Flossie Woods, two grandchildren Velma Wise and Donald E Woods, and a granddaughter Lauretta Searfoss is deceased. Living siblings listed include Andrew George John Catharine Isaac Susan and E A Baughman.
The church lists a 9 30 a m Sunday school with Wallace Dible as senior superintendent and Dorothy Mitchell as junior superintendent. Junior church meets at 10 30 a m. Roy Blue, after two years with the John Deere store in Carey, signs a contract with the Allis Chalmers Implement Co to open an agency here. A full line of Allis Chalmers tractors and farm implements will be stocked once a suitable location is found.
The Crawford township trustees organized Tuesday afternoon by electing Ervin Weautling chairman and J S Fox vice-chairman Ray mond Orians recently appointed to fill the unexpired term of County Commissioner Guy Greer is the third member Mrs C C Thome is the clerk.
The Crawford chapter No 168 OE&F sent a potted poinsettia at Christmas and many friends offered kind remembrances. Our thanks are heartfelt and our gratitude will not be forgotten.
Revival meetings began at St Pauls Evangelical church south of Vanlue Monday evening led by Pastor O R Reiff. The public is invited to attend and The Ladies Aid society holds an all day meeting today with Mr FE A Baughman. A potluck dinner is planned at noon.
The W B A and A Lodge will meet Friday evening in Moore Hall located above Gottfried Bros. plumbing shop. All members are urged to be present.
A sheriff’s sale in Upper Sandusky for property on West North Street connected to Peoples Bank realized 2450 dollars. The bid fell short of the 3250 dollar appraised value.
The woman's gym class will meet Tuesday evening at 730 o'clock in the Lutheran parish house.
Levi Baughtman of Fustorta was omitted from the guests list at the December 26 celebration for Mr and Mrs E A Baughman's golden wedding anniversary.
Supt. Early Driver announced that the Class B sectional basketball tournament will again be held in Carey this year. He named Principal IEB. Mulholland as manager. The tournament is scheduled for early March.
Ice and snow on streets and highways last week caused three automobile accidents in and near Carey. A 1938 Plymouth owned by F. H. Hodge of Newark skidded north of Carey on Route 23 and plunged into a ditch. A 1934 Buick driven by C. V. Fellers of Findlay was badly damaged when struck by a Ford driven by John Guttenberg north of Carey on Dow Street. A 1937 Pontiac owned by Chas McClellan of the Route 23 and 224 intersection was sideswiped near Fostoria Saturday afternoon. No injuries reported. all cars towed to Cy's Garage, Carey.
Rev Marion E. Tinsler installed the church school officers and teachers for the coming year. Officers include general superintendent Wallace Dible, associate superintendent C W Lanning, junior superintendent Dorotha Mitchell, primary superintendent Mrs E S Ulrich, pianist Mrs W H Huston, chorister Ada Mitchell, secretary J Forrest Baker, assistant secretary Walter Jones, treasurer F H Frederick Jr, librarians Cora Ellen Schira and Joan Myers, and Junior Corron.
E E Gottfried of Upper Sandusky named manager of the Carey Wyandot County Farm Bureau Cooperative branch. He assumed charge Monday of the business formerly Carey Mill and Elevator Co, now leased by the association. Gottfried is brother of Walter Gottfried of east of Carey.
The Carey Schools Band Mothers Club will meet Monday evening January 9 at 8 o'clock in the high school building. Mrs Charles Calmes is chairman of the committee in charge with Mrs Herman Derr, Mrs Norbert Brown, Mrs Royal Greek, Mrs Ruby Criger, Mrs F oH Frederick, Mrs C TI Chapman and Mrs R C Howarrd as other members.
The Women of the Moose will hold meetings every Tuesday evening at their new hall on S Vance street in Lodz starting at 7 30 pm Pinochle will begin at 8 00 pm after lodge. The public is invited to join the games and activities.

The board of education reorganization elected T. D. Romig president and R. L. Gottfried vice-president, replacing 1938 leaders C. C. Wenner and J. F. Dible. Dr. H. K. Van Buren remains a board member with Miss Jennie Steen continuing as clerk treasurer and secretary to the superintendent. Regular meetings set for Tuesday evenings, Denver Hart reappointed to the library board for seven years, term ending 1938.
Wyandot County Agricultural Society fixes September 12 13 14 15 for the 1939 county fair at a Saturday Upper Sandusky meeting. Officers were reelected including Dennis Bloom president and Ivan Matteson secretary who declined to resign but was reelected. Matteson praised the 1938 fair highlighting 4 H clubs schools F F A groups and Boy Scout parade. He noted 24 years of attendance at board meetings and commended the board for an outstanding educational and entertaining fair with high quality exhibits and records.
The card expresses sincere appreciation to friends for flowers and other remembrances sent during illness at Findlay hospital and after returning home in Vanlue Ohio.
Revival services began Monday evening at Beech Grove United Brethren Church south of town. Pastor Rex of Wharton led the program with evening special music. Everyone is welcome.
