The Peoples Telephone Co stockholders will hold their regular annual meeting in the Beck Block office on Thursday January 18 1923 at 1 00 p m to elect three directors and discuss other proper business J A Newcomer Secretary 49 51
Tuesday Frank Kilgus of Crawford was butchering in the old Smalley house near the corner when it caught fire during dinner. The uninhabited structure burned slightly before neighbors formed a bucket brigade and prevented serious damage.
At the annual organization meeting Monday the Crawford township trustees reelected J W Powell as president and G E Greer as vice president. They spent much work on roads last year and hold about 500 dollars in the treasury.
Nearly all merchants will close their stores on Monday evenings starting with the new year. The move aims to ease staffing difficulties as clerks are scarce for evening shifts.
Last Thursday and Friday Carey held a sacred historical drama The Three Holy Kings at Catholic Hall. Rev Father Thomas directed with forty singers led by Ralph Brown and G V Sutphen. new scenery by Father Thomas and W E B Montague enhanced the stage. costumes rented from Cincinnati added oriental flair. Raymond Logsdon’s omitted role is noted. overall praise goes to cast singers and directors for a Christmas season highlight.
Farm Bureau outlines two independent institutes to be held in February in Nevada and Carey, joining four state aid institutes at Sycamore Little Sandusky Marseilles and Wharton. Committees will announce exact dates and programs later. State aid schedule lists Sycamore February 9 and 10 Little Sandusky February 19 and 20 Marseilles February 21 and 22 Wharton February 23 and 24.
The annual election of Our Lady of Consolation Branch No. 38 Catholic Knights of Ohio on December 27 elected officers for 1923. Spiritual director Rev Aloys M. Fish, president Thomas Noon, vice president Joan Schira, recording secretary F J Mangett, financial secretary and treasurer Sylvester Schira, sentinel Edward Noon, and lecturer Peter Krupp. Installation set for January 11. members urged to attend.
The local board of education organized Monday at the First National Bank with Mrs JE C Walker as president for another year E S Burson as vice president and F A Galbroner as clerk The vacancy from B E Hudson’s removal to the Ranger farm west of town remains unfilled.

Methodist church holds all services as usual on Sunday with the pastor preaching morning and night. The quarterly communion will be observed in the morning. All members are urged to attend and all others are welcome.

Students contributed to the Near East Relief fund totaling 29.64 before Christmas break. The high school basketball team edged the Alumni in a rough practice game, while the girls’ squad prepared for an opening clash with North Central United Association at Tiffin, with optimism for a strong season.
Carey high school girls schedule a 7 30 p m preliminary game against two Carey Blue and White teams. Blues include Holden Rothgeb Sutphen Stroup Tanger Briggs Dirmeyer. Whites include Heck Miller Patterson Gunther Alter Dame. No admission charged.
January 5 marks the opening game of the season as Carey AY 3 hosts St. Marys High of Marion. Carey aims to win at home, facing a slightly seasoned visitors squad. Carey unveils new uniforms from Burson Kurtz store and invites the town to support the team.
F. K Henry and family spent Christmas in Bellefontaine. Miss Katherine McCabe was in New York during the Christmas vacation. Miss Cleo Sawyer spent the Christmas vacation at her home near Bucyrus. Miss Margaret Ann Pepple visited her sister in Toledo during the Christmas vacation. The Juniors and Seniors are carrying on a sale of delicious chocolate bars two sizes five and ten cents. These are exceptionally low prices for such good quality candy.
Five of six women elected to the Ohio General Assembly seated themselves. Two sit as senators, Maude C. Waitt of Cleveland and Nettie B. Longhead of Cincinnati. In the House, Neattie M. Clapp of Cleveland, J Ott of Youngstown, and May Van Wre of Cincinnati join their county delegations. Lulu T. Gleason of Toledo is ill at home.
The Lima Kiwanis club held the first luncheon of the year with many members present. Dr I N Zeis became president and urged cooperation for a successful year. C G Spencer read New Year greetings from headquarters and trustees meet Jan 16 in Lima was announced.
A 10 pound son arrived for Mr and Mrs Henry Preraceini on December 29. Mrs Pieraveini stayed at her parents Ralph Pr lit. grini in Lima. A 50 pound son was born to Mr and Mrs Lloyd Logsdon west of town Saturday morning and christened Cletus Ralph at Our Lady of Consolation Church on Monday with sponsors Mr and Mrs Ralph Brown.
A Chevrolet coupe driven by a Columbus woman overturned in a ditch off the waterbound near Ulrah road south of town. Slippery sleet caused the accident. the driver escaped injury, but the car lost a front wheel and the top was damaged. It was towed to Upper Sandusky for repairs.
Mrs Phil Henn was elected president and Mrs C M Wenner vice president at a Wednesday meeting of the Lutheran Aid Society. Mrs F A Galbroner was chosen secretary and Mrs I L Culler treasurer, with Mrs R C Pennington hosting. The February session will be held at Mrs C A Carpenter's home.
Mrs. S. B. Gillet underwent a very serious operation Sunday forenoon at her home just west of town. Dr. J. W. Hartman of Findlay performed the operation, assisted by Dr. R. C. Van Buren and Dr. S. R. Bame of this city.
The WBA of the Maccabees will install officers Friday evening at Moose Hall. After the ceremony they will enjoy a social hour following the meeting.
The Knights of Pythias will install new officers Tuesday evening with Jay E B Black acting as installing officer. All members are urged to attend.
Mrs Nettie Smith of Detroit married December 18 to retired railroad man Mr W W Davidson of Harrisburg Pennsylvania. She will relocate to Harrisburg to establish her home with him.
The Pythian Sisters will hold an installation this evening at their hall marking the initiation of new members and ongoing fraternal activities.
The body of Mrs. S Harvey Bailey, who died last Tuesday at her Manistee home, arrived with her son Paul and was taken to Hosea Tong’s home in Ridge township. Funeral Friday at St. Paul church was officiated by Rev. Guy T Miller. pallbearers were six Tong brothers. Attending were Rev. Carroll Bailey and Rev. W Elmer Bailey, among others, with numerous floral tributes from family and friends.

Saturday evening Herbert Newhard received a telegram confirming his appointment as Carey postmaster. Sunday Wim Zahn, who served over eight years, left the post, with Newhard taking charge Monday. Newhard has served as Wyandot county state representative for two years and previously held the Carey postmaster role for 16 years. Norman Zahn remains as clerk under civil service rules. Charles Calmes will become a clerk after passing a forthcoming examination.
G A Rothrauff secretary of The Liberty Tire Corporation, Cleveland, issues a call for the annual stockholders meeting at Moose hall Carey at 2 o clock Wednesday afternoon January 10. He says vital business will be discussed though local directors claim no knowledge of the meeting. Months ago a meeting at Upper Industry was held under the common pleas court and James F Shuman was elected secretary to succeed Rothrauff, who resists succession.
The House passed the Dunn tax levy bill by 93 to 0 under suspension of rules, abolishing all state tax levies effective September 1923 except the soldier bonus levy. The Senate concurred with a 31 to 0 vote.
The dues of the Members of the Ladies Auxiliary of Earl Green Post American Legion must be paid by next Monday. Pay them to Miss Elsie Howard secretary or Miss Martha Schira treasurer.
Porter Hendricks relocates his office from the Emerine Bridge meat market rooms to the premises above I. G Huston and S. LeMott's barber shop near the same block. The notice lists the new location within the market district and advises patrons to adjust correspondence accordingly.
