Edward Messmer son of Mr and Mrs Elmer Messmer received an honorable discharge from the U S Army on December 16 at Fort MacArthur California after three years and seven months of service Six months were spent in France Holland Germany and Austria He served in the 20th armored division band later transferring to the 49th Infantry 8th armored division and 16th armored division band attached to several army corps He earned the ETO ribbon with one battle star the Victory and American Theater ribbons and the good conduct medal He took part in the Battle of Central Europe.

T/Sgt Peter C Feck son of Mr and Mrs John Weck of north of Carey received an honorable discharge from the U S Army December 15 at Fort Knox Kentucky. He served four years seven months with the 159th Infantry and 203rd Infantry and earned Asiatic Pacific ribbon with one battle star American Defense American Theater Victory ribbons and good conduct medal. He was in Attu Aleutians and at Camp Shelby Fort Benning and underwent major surgery in July. He plans to resume his former job with Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co Toledo.

Harold Shue Discharged From Seabees at Great Lakes
Harold Shue, M. M. M. 2/c, was honorably discharged at Great Lakes on December 16 after two years with the Seabees. He has returned home and resumed work at Shang's Service Station run by Clarence Courtad, a fellow Seabee veteran. Shue trained at Bainbridge Maryland and served on Staten Island, Norfolk, through the Panama Canal to San Diego, with a period in Seattle while repairing damaged ships.

Carey Visit Shows Navy Family Ties With USS California
Mr and Mrs H J Mullholand and daughter Mrs Edward Aliester Jr spent Friday to Sunday in Philadelphia with their son Coxswain Jack Mullholand. He arrived in Carey on a 15 day leave and will return to Philadelphia January 15. The Carey visitors toured the USS California in the Philadelphia navy yard where he serves.
