Local sportsmen announce a gun fox hunt set for New Year’s Day starting at 1 PM. Meet at Weber's store in Crawford for the event, which aims to curb fox numbers believed to be harming pheasant hunts next year.
Edmund Logsdon, a Marine veteran who served 57 months and 18 days, was honorably discharged at Great Lakes. He trained at Parris Island and Camp Lejeune and fought on Guadalcanal and Okinawa. He received the American Defense Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with two stars, Presidential Unit Citation with one star, Purple Heart, American Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct, and Victory medals. He spent time with his parents in Detroit before reuniting with his wife, married December 20, 1943.
A group of 380 Italian prisoners of war including 11 officers departed Camp Perry for an eastern embarkation port. The move marks the final withdrawal of Italians from the camp, with reports that many German POWs are also sent home and that all former Nazis may leave Camp Perry by the end of March when the camp is abandoned.
Students in Lima staged a parade and bonfire at St John High to protest comic books deriding their role in juvenile delinquency. A large Superman image was burned amid chants and a banner reading Keys to World Ruin Comic Books.
Wayne Foster near Wayne builds what is claimed as Ohio's longest farm structure at 1 008 feet. The partitioned building houses ducks starting in the east end then moving to the west end and across the highway to the duck lot over the river. Foster housed as many as 265 000 ducks in the feeding lot last year and is noted as a leading duck producer in the Middle West.
Seneca county Common Pleas Judge Ralph Sugrue ruled Gerald W. Fling is entitled to salary as county engineer for military service from August 19, 1942, to January 1, 1945. Fling filed suit for $7,080.
Miss Luella Rowe formerly of North street Carey is very feeble at Legge Rest Home in Upper Sandusky Ohio but still reads mail from friends in Carey she loves. Her address is 2121 S Seventh street Upper Sandusky Ohio.
Curveland, Dec 24. President C. E. Newton announced that the Chesapeake and Ohio railway company has invited proposals for the construction of 1,000 modern light-weight sleeping cars created to enhance passenger service.
Notice states there will be no meeting of Girl Scout Troop No 8 on Friday December 28 with Miss Theda Wilts as the teacher.
Carey High School suffered its third straight loss as the Blue Devils fell 59 to 33 to the Salem Corn Huskers on Tuesday night. Don Wedge left the game early in the second quarter with fouls while Salem pulled away in the third and fourth periods led by Paul Orians with 21 points. Salem reserves defeated Carey's B team 71 to 1 as Harold Strahm stood out for Salem.
Howard G Coppler son of Mrs Tillie Coppler of 295 Glen Avenue Carey Ohio is returning home as one of 3000 veterans being brought back to the United States aboard the USS Windsor part of the Magic Carpet fleet from Okinawa. The Windsor and other ships of the fleet left Okinawa December 4 and were to arrive in Seattle around December 16. Passengers proceed to separation centers to complete discharge formalities before resuming civilian life.
W J Saltzman of northwest of Carey purchases a 160 acre farm owned by J A Schira five miles west of Carey. Possession will be taken April 1. Schira recently acquired a one third interest in the Newhard block on E Findlay street from C B Wosack of Cleveland. The remaining two thirds of the block are owned by Mrs Allie Newhard of N Vance street.
Fifty trailers rented from the government will house married veterans enrolled at Ohio Wesleyan University under the G I bill of rights. The camps will be set up on the women's athletic field, officials said.
Carey Police Department expresses gratitude to those who remembered officers during the Christmas season.

The write‑up chronicles dinners and daylong visits with extended family groups scattered through Columbus, Carey, Findlay, and nearby locales.
A notice lists service members with updated addresses including Clarence E Filliater at San Francisco and Willis M Putnam Jr at Camp Roberts California. Other names include Richard E Bland at Camp Pickett Virginia Herbert R Schubert at Separation Center Camp Atterbury Indiana and C B M W at Hut 10 c/o Fort Post Office San Francisco.
Jack L. French 3/c was honorably discharged from the U S Navy at Great Lakes on November 21 after induction March 21, 1944. He trained at Great Lakes, spent time in New Guinea and Fremantle with 50 men, served 15 months at the Fremantle transport office, sailed via Brisbane and Seaplane to Seattle arriving November 10, 1945, and will resume duties as manager of the local Kroger store on January 2, 1946 after time with wife Connie, daughter Barbara, and son Jimmie at 316 S Vance Street.
A J McLaughlin store keeper 2/c received an honorable discharge from the U S Navy December 18 at Great Lakes Illinois after 28 months in service. He spent 21 months in the Pacific with the 18th Special Battalion Seabees handling ammunition. He served at Eniwetok Ulithi the Philippines and Peleliu Islands and earned Asiatic Pacific and Philippine Liberation ribbons plus the Victory medal. He is the son of Mrs Sherman Yingling of N Patterson street and his wife Mrs J McLaughlin joined him after a trip from Billings Montana to Fort Wayne.
An 11 week course on operating frozen food locker plants will begin March 26 at Ohio State University with the college of agriculture and associations sponsoring. Enrollment is limited to 60. veterans may attend under the GI Bill. Professor Howard D. Brown will assist. faculty and industry reps will teach on food preservation laws processing of frozen foods refrigeration and related topics.
Beginning December 27 Carey Moose lodge will meet each Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. C. J. Neff serves as secretary and will organize the sessions.
The Carey Kiwanis club announces there will be no meeting on Monday December 31 due to holiday observance. Members are advised to note the calendar change and await next week’s gathering.
Private First Class John K. Barrett of Adrian Ohio received the Bronze Star Medal at McGuire General Hospital Richmond Virginia for heroic actions on November 27 1944 in Germany. He maneuvered his machine gun section to an advantageous position and aided the seizure of an important objective despite wounds. Barrett enlisted in 1939 and returned to the United States last spring for treatment. his parents Mr and Mrs W D Barrett live in Adrian and his brother Carl recently left the Navy.
Albert S. Adsmond of Pulaski Township Williams County sails from Portland Maine with a shipload of cattle bound for Poland. The UNRRA relief effort supplies cattle for Heifers for Relief via Brethren Service committees. By November 8 thirty one church men had shipped overseas. 100 to 200 are expected monthly. Adsmond sails on the S S Morgantown Victory.
Girl Scout Troop No 11 convenes every Thursday evening in the Carey Scout hall. Leader is Mrs Carson B Canode with Miss Helen Teter as assistant leader and Mrs Ralph Williams as troop committee member. Members include Laurell Dible Sally Jaster Barbara Elbert Judy Hill Barbara Jean Dible Patty Ritter Marilyn Schmuck Mary Rothgeb Marilyn Gibson and Lois Dill.
Russell Cole, a Gunner's Mate Third Class in the U S Navy, was honorably discharged in Toledo after 29 months' service. He served as a gunner on a merchant ship in the South Pacific. His wife and two children Patrick Eugene and Penelope have lived with H B Keller on Findlay Street.

The Victory Class of the Method ist Sunday school holds a social at Mrs Hattie Presler’s home on S Muncie street Wednesday evening January 2. Mrs Fred Mitchell assists the hostess and Mrs George Corron Sr conducts the devotionals.

A court of honor was held last Thursday in the Boy Scout rooms. Stanley Van Buren advanced from Life to Eagle Scout. James Robinson rose from 2nd Class to 1st Class and earned two merit badges. Clarence Hoeps moved to 2nd Class, while Cletus Remlinger, David Smith, David Myers, Gerald Garn, Paul Remlinger, Floyd Pistac cini, Clayton Twining, Robert Silmonis, and Dick Bakties advanced to Tender Foot. Seven eligible boys missed due to illness. another court will occur in late January 1946 at Upper Sandusky to complete advancements. Homer Robinson led, assisted by Grover Snyder and Eugene Wagner. Snyder awarded tenderfoot badges and Van Buren led two 1st and 2nd class badges.
The first beer and wine permits since wartime freezes will likely go to Manchester in Adams county or a new beer parlor operator in Upper Sandusky Carey or Sycamore. Permits will be issued by counties in alphabetical order from the ends toward the middle. the freeze began September 1, 1943, and the liquor control board recently voted to defrost the order.
Frederick A. McLoughlin 8 2/c¢ son of Mr and Mrs Dan McLoughlin was honorably discharged from the U S navy in San Francisco and arrived in Carey December 16. He served 344 years and saw duty in the Atlantic Mediterranean and Pacific aboard a destroyer tender a P C boat and a sub chaser. He had worked at the Carey plant of National Lime Stone Co before enlisting and plans to return there soon.
The regular monthly meeting of the Carey Farmers' Community club will be held Monday evening December 31 at the K of C hall. Committees in charge include Entertainment by Allen Baker Arthur Wisner and Frank Miller Refreshments by Vincent Orians E E Gottfried and Foster Savidge.

A 7 pound son arrived Sunday morning at Findlay hospital to Mr and Mrs Leonard Nye of West North Street. A 9 pound daughter was born at 1 12 a m Monday at Findlay hospital to Mr and Mrs Kenneth Wisely of Alvads.
