Fragmentary notes describe Johnnie gazing at a one day seventy two and a traveling brother in a cot. The Carey Mill and Elevator began cutting 8 inch ice on the Lakeland pond Tuesday.
Sunday Holy Communion offered at morning and evening rites with infant baptisms and new member reception. Evening sermon titled The Unknown Country. New Year program and college day in Sunday School hour. Vanlue service at 2 30 pm. Church Council meeting Tuesday. Preparatory Service Friday 7 30 pm. Luther Leaguers social Thursday. Christmas service at 7 am with candle ceremony. Canned goods sent to Oesterlen Orphans Home Springfield and aid to town families by Woman's Missionary Society.
A. J. Frederick county commissioner whose term ends this week plans leaving Monday for New Orleans and then by boat to Havana Cuba. He will travel via the Panama Canal to the Pacific coast visiting Central America and the United States to Los Angeles to see his brother Henry. He may settle in Toledo on return to Ohio and suggests Carey as his longtime home.
Our Lady of Consolation Branch No. 38 elects officers for 1925 with Conrad Steinmetz as President and Edward Noon as financial secretary and treasurer. Other posts include A L Arnold vice president F J Mangett recording secretary John Pahl trustees J S Fox sentinel Andrew Cowlet lecturer Thomas Noon and Teter Krupp membership chair. Installation is planned for January 1925 with expected strong attendance.
The Luther League changes its business and social gathering to Thursday evening January 1 at J L Yohe's home on N Vance St. Election of officers will take place and all members are urged to attend. James Yohe is president.
Wesley Wonder from north of town underwent hernia surgery at Findlay Home and Hospital. Dr Jay Siddall assisted. the operation occurred Tuesday and he is recovering well. He is expected to return home early next week.
The annual Pythian banquet will be held New Years Eve at Castle Hall. All Knights of Pythias and Pythian Sisters and their families are invited.
Poem urges ring out the old year and ring in the new with wishes for peace justice and noble living. It condemns pride class strife and war while calling for truth love and a brighter future. The verse contrasts fading darkness with a hopeful vision for humanity.
The revival continues in the second week with strong attendance and a full Sunday plan. Sunday features include Sunday School at 9 30 Morning worship at 10 30 baptism and Lord's Supper, morning and evening receptions, plus an afternoon service at 2 00 and an evening service at 7 30. Engineers at the Board of Affairs finalized the new service rules with several rate changes. Residence lighting inside city limits is 9c per kilowatt hour and 10c outside. minimum monthly charge is $1 25. Electric range first 10 kWh 6c and excess 8c. Commercial lighting charges use a variable scale. minimum charge is $100 net per horsepower of connected load.
Mr and Mrs George Bayne of Chillicothe and Mr and Mrs Ralph Livingston with son Robert of Columbus visited L Livingston's home in Findlay. On Saturday Ralph Livingston and son visited Mrs Livingston's parents in Findlay, then returned to Carey to escort the Baynes to Columbus. Ralph Livingston holds an assistant professorship in Ohio State University’s research department.
Practically all Carey shops will close on New Year's Day relief banks observe the holiday and there will be no postal deliveries that day.
Plumbers have been busy on urgent calls to thaw frozen water lines across the Carey region. The Carey Times will provide the official public sale publicity for these repairs and services.
On Tuesday evening Crawford Chapter Order of the Eastern Star installed 1925 officers led by Past Worthy Patron L. E Straw. Officers named include Miss May Mullho land as worthy matron and H. B E. Wonder as worthy patron with several matrons conductress and secretary roles listed. The event featured piano solos by Mrs Randall Tuttle of Spencer Iowa and vocal selections by Carl Mitchell, followed by supper served by the social committee.
On Tuesday afternoon Mrs Josephine Wright of Frederick street slipped from the walk at her home and sustained a compound fracture of her left arm near the wrist.
Printed name cards at the Times office list Mr and Mrs Gust Summiter, Mrs Jesse McLaughlin, daughter Lucille, and Miss Rosa Summit as Christmas guests at their brother William Summer's home in Mifflin Township.
William Humbert and Mrs Beinhbrech of West Bigelow street mourn the death of their seven month old son born May 3 1924 He died Saturday morning at 7 o clock Funeral is set for Monday at 2 pm at Hoyne with Rev Lidukaemper officiating Burial in Old Mission cemetery Attending relatives include Mr and Mrs D J Humbert and James Wright of Toledo among others Floral tributes and musical selections noted in the obituary.
Secretary Brown after a conference with Prof. Withrow of Ohio State University ordered the distribution of 1925 automobile tags to resume. Initial reports of inferior paint were found unfounded, and over 1,000,000 sets already manufactured will be issued. Governor Donahey expressed faith in Withrow and said he would abide by the decision.
A Christmas program at the Crawford Methodist church is set for Wednesday evening December 31. Wallace Sloop a Columbus Blind school graduate living with John Breitigan near Wharton will provide special music. A play titled The Way They Do at Do it School will be presented and the public is invited.
Donald Dwight infant son of Mr and Mrs Jacob Briges of Soaner Street was born Sunday died Monday morning and was buried Tuesday forenoon at 10 30. Burial was in Spring Grove cemetery.
