Carey High School to Represent in WMAN Contest

Miss Joan Cole of Carey High School and her mother were chosen to represent Carey in a radio station MRN sponsored contest in Marion. Joan was selected for scholastic achievement talent and extracurricular activity and the pair will compete on personality and poise with the prize a weekend at the Waldorf in New York City.

Poetry Contest Open to Carey High School Students

A poetry contest welcomes all Carey High School students with entries forwarded to the County committee by March 1. Winning poems will advance to a county contest and top selections will be compiled into an anthology by Ohio high school students. Previous winners Peggy Wlaird and Eugenia Hmltz earned first place in a similar centennial event.

Burson's reach league lead with big win over Swan bber

Burson's stay in first place after an 87 to 30 victory over Swan bber. Gray Motors area edged the Faculty 21 and Moose moved to third by beating Dyna Fuels 39 to 25. Buckingham led with 34 points, C eck added 22. Next week Burson's faces Dyna Fuels, Moose meets Gray's, and Rubber meets Faculty.

Legion assists World War II veterans with discharge forms

The American Legion offers help to World War II veterans in completing discharge form applications, starting Wednesday March 3 at 7 pm and continuing at Legion Hall. Veterans should bring their original discharge service records. a regular Legion meeting is held Tuesday evenings.

1948 license plates go on sale in Neleta Smith notice

Automobile and truck license plates for 1948 will be on sale March 1 at Smith's Shoe Store. Licenses will be sold each Monday Tuesday and Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock. No licenses will be sold on Thursday Friday and Saturday evenings except during the last week of March when licenses will be sold every evening Monday through Saturday. World War II service books available from American Legion outlets

Limited copies of the WWII service books are for sale at the post office and Legion hall, with Edmond Pahl and Leslie Newcomer listed as contacts. The book features photos and service records of local veterans and is urged as a future reference. Carl W. Smith, Kenton head of the Ohio civil service commission, will deliver the Memorial Day address in Carey.

Tracy Improving After Major Operation in Cleveland

Mr and Mrs Ray Tracy of Carey and their son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Merle Pemberton of Tiffin visited Tracy's brother H L Tracy in Lakeside University Hospital Cleveland. Injury in icy fall near Carey injures Mrs Risner

Mrs Ernest Risner slipped on ice Friday February 13 while moving toward her garage six miles east of Carey. She struck the back of her head and was unconscious until brought indoors, with a painful head bruise but no skull fracture suspected by a local physician.

Baby dies in kerosene stove explosion tragedy

Two year old Grover Wagner son of Mr and Mrs Cyrus Wagner of 165 Latourette street died this morning in a tiny house trailer fire caused by a kerosene heater. Fire gutted the interior and melted tarpaper. damage estimated 1750 dollars. Funeral services set for Thursday at 2 pm in Bethel cemetery.

Carey native buys interest in local insurance agency

Thomas J Hilty formerly of Crystal Lake Michigan buys an interest in L N Zahn's insurance firm. He moved to Carey with his wife and three young sons Jeff Michael and Jack after running a restaurant.
