Stone wins Hancock county corn growing championship
Sam Stone of EB South Street was named champion in the 1947 DeKalb corn growing contest in Hancock County. The corn, grown on his farm northwest of Carey, yielded 72.77 bushels per acre and earned him a bronze plaque on a mahogany base. This was his first entry to the contest.

Hale Named Carey City Manager After Toledo Airport Service
At a Monday meeting Carey council named Harry D. Hale longtime Toledo airport superintendent since 1944 as city manager. Hale resigns his airport post Tuesday and will earn 4500 dollars a year starting February 28. He will head a staff of 24 in the town of 3500. a Navy veteran and United States Naval Academy graduate, Hale survived the Langley carrier and Pecos destroyer sinkings. He is a native of Fostoria.

Clarence Buchert at Clinic From Dayton Crash Injury
Clarence Nichert of east of Carey was treated at East Cleveland clinic for a growth on the collar bone area near the first rib, linked to injuries from a Dayton airplane crash 28 years ago. Mr Helbert also suffered serious head injuries and was flown to New York for a delicate brain operation, the third such in the country.
