Miss Elsie Peter formerly of this city married Matthew Walther of Cleveland on February 8 in Cleveland. The couple will reside at 4334 Summit Avenue Lakewood. Walther is a lawyer practicing in Cleveland and Lakewood. The bride is daughter of J W Peter and well known locally.
The Carey Times will arrive late to many subscribers due to mail carriers taking a day off for Washington's birthday vacation.
The Lutheran church collects funds and garments for the National Lutheran Council relief in Europe. A free will offering reached about 3100 with clothing drive by the Men's Brotherhood to be distributed in Russia. Call Dr. Frank Moyer or others to contribute as the council aims to raise 850000 by month end.
Burson and Kurtz introduces a new assortment of novelty dress shirts for customers seeking distinctive prints and patterns. The store plans in-store displays and promotions to showcase the latest arrivals.
The Farmers Institute program runs Friday and Saturday March 2 and 3 at the high school auditorium in connection with the corn show. It features opening prayers, addresses on seed corn, farm home comfort, hog breeding, and farm bureau actions with multiple speakers, music, and discussions across morning, afternoon, and evening sessions.
Saturday schedule begins at 9 00 am with opening song prayer and talks on standardization crops and what I did with wheat and potatoes by C C Wenner Harley Roynon and Roger Lindsay A F High Mrs H W Lawrence and Miss Cleo Gledhill provide discussions and musical items before noon intermission Then more talks on the rural problem and its solution community cooperation and further vocal duets and solos conclude the session
Evening Session at 7 30 includes music by the Carey Quartet and a play “Between Two Lives” in the Agri cultural and Domestic Science Class. Officers listed are President C M Wenner vice president E S Burson secretary Howard Miller treasurer James Needs and executive committee M H Thomas Ralph Haford Clint Baker Ralph Heck and D A Dow.
The high school lecture course fourth number featured Davies Opera Bumpers presenting Olivette a light opera. Mr Davies starred backed by strong voices and solid comedy. No scenery was used and the accompanist acted in the cast yet the result was excellent.
Branch No 38 of the Knights of O. will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday February 22 at 7 30 p m in the usual place and time.
Local high school agriculture class outlines entry rules for the second annual mid winter fair. Exhibits must be from 1922 crops, with specific quantity requirements for corn wheat oats soybeans clover and timothy seeds. Entries limited to one per class, with name and address on exhibit tags and no names on judging cards.
In Toledo on Wednesday 10:60 a federal court hearing dismissed the bankruptcy case against Liberty Tire Corp. The Jordans withdrew claims of 170000 to 250000 liabilities and the court ruled no bankruptcy. Directors Ash Patterson Shuman Ingram and attorneys Priddy and Carey referenced. Permanent receiver to be appointed by Judge Close.
Joe Dumit of Upper Sandusky C C Simonis and W Bates appraised the stock of goods in the former Ralph Pieraccini store on South Vance street Monday H G Chambers is named trustee in the bankruptcy proceedings The store will likely be discontinued as the room is rented for other purposes
Fine window display showcases premiums for the second annual corn show under the school agricultural class. Prizes donated by Carey merchants, decorated by the pupils, with Mr. Evans of McComb selected to judge the farmer entries.
The Woman's Home and Foreign Missionary Society met at the parsonage for a regular session. Cora Hart led devotionals in president’s absence, read Acts 17, and prayers followed. Members sang Old Black Joe and heard reports from C R Tate Will Heck and A J Foreman.
Last Thursday around 1 pm a Northern Ohio locomotive started a grass fire in the northwest part of town. High winds spread the flames quickly until the Carey fire department arrived and promptly extinguished the fire.
Carl Rothrauff 18 of Carey dies after a speeder built by Lanker from an old Ford crashes on a steep bridge approach near Findlay. Kenneth Clark and Gail Lanker are injured lightly. Lanker unhurt. Coroner rules accidental death. Rothrauff died within minutes. He had moved to Carey a year ago to live with G A Rothrauff. funeral plans filed for Turtle Creek relatives.
The Crawford Ridge Farm Bureau reports a tight pest campaign ending February 15. East side wins by 652 points with totals of sparrows mice rats and hawks. grand totals show 10 266 sparrows 3595 mice 1255 rats and 16 hawks. The saved damage amounts to 20206 dollars for the two townships. Leaders will meet to choose banquet details and consider a joint feast.
Dr. H. E. Beebe graduated at Cleveland Homeopathic Hospital College on February 12 and moved to Sidney five weeks later to practice. He became a trusted physician with roles in Homeopathic societies and now serves as president of Citizens' National Bank and director of Shelby County Building & Loan Association. A native with many local relatives, he is regarded as a faithful healer by Sidney and surrounding areas.
The Jennie Larmonth Young Women's Missionary Society met Monday evening at Mrs R L Gottfried's home with Mrs Walter Gottfried assisting. Miss Carolyn Newhard led a program titled India the Magnet of Missionaries, presented as a pageant.
