Railroad history film shown to club members

The Monday evening meeting featured a sound color film about modern railroading, its equipment and vital role in industry produced by the American Railroad Association. The film was secured for the club by women S. J. Watkins and G. Wickens of the A. C. and Y. Several guests attended and a new member was welcomed. A brief directors' meeting followed the adjournment.

Valentine party hosted by American Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary will hold a Valentine party in the Legion hall on Thursday evening February 12. A teen dinner will be served at 6:30. Members of both organizations are urged to attend and assist with table service. The program is planned by a committee including Mrs. James Lindsay, Mrs. Paul App, Mrs. L. G. Evangelism Secretary Rev. Royal Lesher to visit Carey church

The Rev Royal EB Lesher evangelism secretary of the United Lutheran Church in America will be at Christ Lutheran Church next Sunday February 15 for a day of meetings. He preaches at 10:30 a m on Evangelism in the Church Today. A 3 pm conference with Lutheran lay workers from Nevada Upper Sandusky and Tiffin follows. At 6 30 pm he speaks to the Carey Young Adult Lutheran group.

On February 9 Carey review No 27 hosted Findlay review No 22 for a dinner and lodge meeting. Mrs Denis DeVene installed the 1948 officers of the Findlay review with sixteen Carey members participating. A regular meeting is set for Friday at 8 PM in the Moose hall followed by notices of a February 20 meeting at Mrs Ervin Black and Miss Martha Black homes with a potluck.

Messmer Undergoes Appendectomy at Mercy Hospital

George Messmer of S Vance Street underwent an operation for a ruptured appendix at Mercy Hospital in Tiffin. He was very ill last week but improved by Sunday evening and remains in the hospital. He received four blood transfusions from Friar Berard of Our Lady of Carey seminary, August Windau, Andrew Collet, and Richard Kitzler.

Mrs Gibbs Homa Returns Home After Auto Crash Injury

Mrs Effie Gibbs, residing with Mrs Myrtle Perkins on N Vance Street, has recovered enough from injuries suffered January 3 to return from Toledo where she stayed with her son and daughter-in-law Mr and Mrs A E Gibbs. She was struck by an auto driven by Homer Risner, the crash caused by icy pavement.

Carey Exchange Phones Out of Commission

Last week 2150 telephones on the Carey exchange east of Patterson street were out of commission. Problems began January 31 reported by EB A Clingaman, local manager, with emergency repairs keeping most lines working. By February 3 the outage worsened as a conduit crossing Findlay street froze underground, compressing ice and shorting 200 pair cables. Bellevue crew arrived Friday morning and restored service by Friday afternoon.

Woman suffers broken leg in icy fall on Clay Street

Mrs. Jerome Weinandy of Clay Street slipped on ice near her home Saturday evening and dislocated her ankle and broke her leg. She was treated by a Findlay physician and returned home, with Bristoll's ambulance transporting her.

Urbana judge to speak at Carey Institute

Judge F C Bowers of Urbana will be principal speaker at the Carey Community Institute to be held in the high school auditorium on February 26 and 27. He chairs committees in the Ohio Juvenile Judges association and serves as secretary of the Ohio State Probate Judges association and Champaign county probate and juvenile judge. Last Thursday the Carey fire department responded to a blaze at Chuck & Luke's north of Carey and another fire near the chimney. Early Monday a fire near George Heck's Crawford home caused by an overheated stove led to only slight damage.

Funeral for Pfc Andrew Reinhart Held at St Nicholas

Funeral services were held for Pfc Andrew Frank Reinhart 27 of New Riegel at St Nicholas church Frenchtown led by Rev Joseph Brobst. He died in France July 10 1944 after enlisting February 4 1942 and serving with the 8th Armored Division engineers earning the good conduct medal. Burial followed at the parish cemetery.

Baptism for William Allen Fleece in Our Lady of Consolation

On Sunday January 11 the infant son of Mr and Mrs Harold Fleece of 163 Newhard Street was baptized at Our Lady of Consolation Church. Rev Mark Mindrup OFMConv officiated.
