Death of Lewis Sloman at 85 in Carey area
Lewis Sloman age 85 died Friday at his son Fred Sloman’s home northeast of Plankton after five weeks of illness. Funeral services were held Monday at Plankton Methodist Church with Rev. W. T. McWilliams and Rev. Paul R. Clouser officiating. burial at Pleasant View cemetery in Sycamore. He was born February 14, 1848 in Saxony Germany, came to the US at age four, married Magdalena Shaffer in 1878, who died in 1908. Surviving children are Fred, Mary Geiser, W L Sloman, Nora Brashares, Cyrus Sloman. a daughter Gertrude and two sisters preceded him. There are seven grandchildren. He belonged to Christ Lutheran church and lived in Carey area for over 30 years.

Farmers' Institute At Carey Draws Record Attendance
The Carey Farmers Institute held Monday and Tuesday at the high school auditorium drew about 523 per session doubling last year’s crowd. Over 16500 sought admittance Tuesday evening as seats filled and doors were locked. the second and third floors opened to accommodate. State aid continued this year with plans for an independent institute next year. Officials include President Truman Romig and Vice President William Pontius. Mr and Mrs H P Miller of Sunbury spoke at four sessions. A fine community fair with 46 exhibits accompanied the event. The relic display grew more extensive, and old time music and a one act farce were part of the program.
