Mills Campaign to Bring Evangelistic Services to Carey

The local Methodist church invites all to two weeks of evangelistic meetings from February 11 to 25 led by Prof. and Mrs. Mills. The pair are renowned for music and youth work and will assist the pastor with family friendly services. Rev. Rainsberger will give the nightly sermons and the church hopes for strong community turnout and spiritual uplift.

Bishop Smith to Visit Local Methodist Church in May

Dr. W. J. Dunham announced that Bishop Smith will visit the local church in May to preach to the congregation and visitors. The visit forms part of the district conference during the Ninetieth Anniversary celebration held at Carey Methodist Church.

The A Co and Y railroad office reports business doubling in December and January versus last year. The local stone quarry ships an average of 80 to 100 cars of glass sand each month.

Work On Crawford Bridge Slowed Up

A sudden drop in temperature last Sunday delayed Crawford bridge progress. Contractors insulated the poured concrete and used live steam to keep it above freezing. North and center deck slabs are poured and railing on the north span partly placed. concreting to resume Wednesday if temperatures rise.

Banner office keeps quality printing at new paper prices

The West Liberty Banner notes paper costs have risen one to three cents per pound since January and will charge more for job printing. The Carey Times pledges to absorb some of the increase if business volume supports it, continuing to offer the best printing at low cost.

A four thirty oclock Vespers will be held at Christ Lutheran church this Sunday Feb 4. A program of sacred music is planned with Junior and Senior vested choirs participating. The public is invited.

Train Hits Auto in Akron Killing Two Tuesday Night

At Akron a car was struck by No. 97 on the A. C. and Y. near midnight Tuesday. A man and a woman were killed when the auto and its occupants were ground to bits before the train could be stopped. The crossing watchman tried to halt the vehicle but was nearly run down as the engine was damaged and halted.

Carey merchants report a strong start to the year with January 1934 sales up 40 to 60 percent over 1933. Groceries clothing shoes and dry goods show the biggest gains as business men express confidence and a favorable outlook for the coming year.

Bank Robbery in Carey Nets $1162 by Three Bandits

In daylight at approximately 12 10 pm three gunmen robbed Peoples Bank in Carey grabbing small bills before forcing the vault open. The robbery interrupted a normal day as Donald Fetters witnessed the car leaving with bulky bundles while police were alerted.

A Carey Farmers Community Club evening featured Wharton visitors performing comedy sketches by Paul Secrist William Searfoss and Orville Corbin. One hundred six stockholders of The Carey Farmers Cooperative Co. met in Gottfried hall. President A. J. Ruehle presided as Atty. H. G. Chambers presented last year’s business with a 6 percent dividend. Directors John S. Fox Alonzo Ogg and Guy Greer were re-elected.

On Thursday January 17 Golden M Tong sold a litter of 10 Duroc pigs to the Farmers Elevator at Mt. Blanchard. The pigs weighed 2210 pounds total with an average of 221 pounds each and were 65 percent months old.

In a joint session on the project site Tuesday the Hancock and Wyandot boards agreed to construct a culvert on the county line road between Biglick and Ridge townships. The Wyandot county engineer was instructed to prepare plans and an estimate.
