Carey merchants unite for a two day community Bargain Event to offer standard merchandise marked down to special money saving prices. shoppers from a wide territory will visit, attracted by genuine discounts and local store displays.
The annual inspection of Temple 169 Pythian Sisters was held at the Pythian home on Patterson street. District deputy Mrs Elizabeth Bristoll of Findlay attended and reviewed the lodge while Celia Reynolds led the program. Her studio orchestra performed and Reynolds sang with her violin obligato, joined by her mother on piano. Tap dancing by Margie Audrush, Maxine Stiner, Mary Braun, and Jean O’Conor impressed 60 attendees from Forest Findlay Vanlue Bellefontaine and the local lodge.
The Queen Esther class of Christ Lutheran Sunday school will hold its regular business and social meeting at the parish house on Wednesday evening next week February 21. The committee includes Mrs. Lloyd Long as chairman and several other named members.
Members of the E C E of Memorial Evangelical church will enjoy a social session in the church basement Saturday evening. Miss Alice Roynon Delcie Smith Ralph Dible Esther Dible and Willis Smith compose the entertainment committee. Refreshments will be served by Lon Phillips Wesley Phillips Miss Catharine Hart and Miss Dread Tong.
Theis Furniture announces its new store at 129 131 S Vance Street is now open. The stock is representative of future offerings as it develops and Mr and Mrs Theis invite friends and prospective customers to visit.
The Carey Times will distribute several hundred extra copies next week to rural sections to support Bargain Day events on Friday and Saturday Feb. 23 and 24. The paper praises local merchants for their public spirited effort and aims to boost trade in Carey.
Dr. B A Stevens, director of the Research Bureau of the Ohio Education Association, spoke to the Carey Kiwanis on Ohio school facts. A Tiffin Kiwanis delegation visited and brought the division four treasure chest to be kept in Carey until delivery to the designated club. Stevens outlined finances showing local taxes funded 90 to 95 percent of operating costs, state aid under 5 million dollars, and cuts dropping 1929 30 costs from 112 075 900 to 76 million in 1933 with teacher salary reductions. He explained state aid eligibility requires 9 2 mills levy and district per pupil valuation under 5900, with board limits on staff and pay per the education director.
Miss May Mullboland presided over a Woman's Missionary society meeting at the Lutheran parish house. Mrs. Anna Snyder led devotions and a brief business session. Della Ogg led a lesson on The New Patriotism from Builders of the New World. Rev. Paul R. Clouser reviewed Christian Missions in America. Carey missionary societies join in a World Day of Prayer program at the same venue on Feb 16 at 2:00.
The Farmers Institute poster contest honors Group I pupils Luella Stoll first and Doris Reis second for posters advertising the institute. Group III winners include Ruth Ardine Gottfried first and Norman Huffman and Don Mitchell tied for second. Group II I? Junior High and 13 year olds feature Richard Kurtz first with James Webb second. Kurtz's poster wins the grand prize and Gottfried's the second grand prize.
Relatives report Miss Marie Baughman in training as a nurse at Christ Hospital Cincinnati is nicely recovering from an appendicitis operation. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Baughman of Bellefontaine. The family formerly resided in Carey.
The Jennie Larmonth Missionary Society of Christ Lutheran church will meet Monday evening February 16 at the home of Mrs. H. L. Wenner with Mrs. Charles Hood as assisting hostess. Mrs. Russell Gottfried and Mrs. H. L. Wyatt will be leaders.
The Wyandot county Reemployment office helps match employers with workers across many trades from clerks to nurses. Inquiries rise as registrations grow. 1900+ have enrolled, about 700 employed, 570 on CWA projects, with Paul Kelley of Carey holding a county position.
The World's Day of Prayer will be observed Friday by Missionary societies of the Methodist Evangelical and Lutheran churches. A service is set for 2 00 o'clock at the Lutheran parish house. The public is invited to attend.
Twenty five local Boy Scouts from Troops 22 and 29 plus other youths gathered at the American Legion hall to hear President Roosevelt urge a nationwide two week Good Turn drive. They will collect utensils, furniture, bedding and clothing for the needy, with Carey Scouts led by John Jacoby coordinating efforts and Wm. Hunter urging citizen cooperation. Plans include canvassing next week, compiling a list of needed articles, and trucks to follow for pickup.
John Hendricks narrowly escaped serious injury when his car was struck by a Ford driven by S W McChesney on W Findlay Street in front of the McChesney residence. Both drivers were uninjured except Hendricks suffered shock. the Ford rolled the top and fenders and lost a wheel after the impact.
A 7 pound son welcomed Thursday week to Mr and Mrs Donald Moyer of north of Bellevue. Mrs Moyer is a daughter of Mr and Mrs H F Roynon. An 8 pound daughter arrived Sunday evening to Mr and Mrs Dale Green at the corner of North and Vance streets. An 8 pound son Ronald Eugene born Sunday morning to Dr and Mrs L E Treece on East Findlay street.
Arrangements move forward for the Sectional Class B tournament at Carey High gym March 1 2 3 with March 3 afternoon. Twelve teams from Hancock Hardin Crawford Wood and Wyandot counties compete with two advancing to Findlay. Fostoria St Wendelin and Carey play. county tournaments determine reps. Wayne Huffman named tournament manager. Joel Burghalter and Wm Stanger to officiate.
Two week evangelistic series began at the Methodist church with Rev. A C Rainsberger preaching nightly. Prof Mills and Mrs Mills assisted with music and radio work, featuring a youth program and afternoon character building for children. An unusual "World's Most Mystifying Musical Instrument" demonstration by Leon The remin followed the opening.
Dean McGill of the state health department discussed the sewer proposition with officials including Mayor Krebs and Councilmen Cole and Squier. The council deferred action until Kiwanis survey results determine property owners’ wishes amid financing questions as CWA funds expire May 1.

About 100 farmers attend a cold training meeting as 75 percent plan to sign, with schedule details for ten townships and strict eligibility rules based on land ownership or tenancy.
The state highway department announced bids opened February 9. UK Construction Co of Upper Sandusky won a 1.263 mile bituminous macadam project on the Carey Findlay road in Crawford and Ridge townships for 19 041.87 dollars.
