Public School Basketball Schedule Adjustments and Faculty Change

The basketball games with McComb were cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. Remaining games are listed for Feb 7 at Vanlue Feb 11 Nevada here Feb 15 Bluffton here Feb 18 Upper here Feb 21 at Marysville. a likely Feb 27 game may occur to prepare for the district tournament. Wilbur Lemasters of Kent State will teach commercial subjects replacing John Tom who will assist this week and start teaching at Shelby next Monday. Grade cards for the 6 week period show listed honor roll students across senior to 8th grade with many names.

Sunday Dinner Hosts and Memorial Evang Sunday School meet

Mr and Mrs Graydon Knowlton and children Shirley and De Roy of Adrian were dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Knowlton. The Philathea class met at Mrs Florence Daymon s home with president Mrs Claude Johnson in charge. The meeting opened with Bless Be the Tie and included devotional readings from Luke 16 and Exodus 35 40. The class plans to study Leviticus next.

Catholic Ladies of Columbia Meet at Knights of Columbus

The Catholic Ladies of Columbia held a Tuesday evening business meeting at the Knights of Columbus room. Members Mrs. H. J. Mullholand and Miss Maxine Newell were obligated to the order. Attendance prizes were drawn by Mrs. Donald Oglesbee and Mrs. M. C. Yost. A pot luck honored new members and the successful membership drive. Next social is Monday evening February 17 with committee chair Mrs. P. B. Emerine and members listed.

Manager Leo T. Jones says Gone With the Wind will play Carey Theatre on Sunday Monday and Tuesday February 23 24 and 25. The four hour show remains the same as when first released.

Carey Community Institute to Host Two Day Event

Mrs. Fred Boli of Canton and Asa C. Mattern of Fredericksburg will speak at the Carey Community Institute on Friday and Saturday February 21 and 22. The program includes talks by Mattern on Shall Democracy Live and by Mrs. Boli with readings and impersonations, plus a Friday afternoon extension service talk by C R Crum and a Saturday noon community dinner. Local talent will perform in two one act comedies and other numbers as sessions run throughout the event.

Women's Society of Christian Service to Host Special Speaker

The WSCS February meeting will be in the Methodist church parlors on February 12 at 8 p m. Miss Derritt Weil a 19 year old Austrian refugee and Bluffton College student will speak. She fled Austria to Czecho Slovakia then Switzerland London and finally America and plans refugee social settlement work after Bluffton.

Hosen Terminal Manager Named for Huntington Transit Co

Nelson Blue son of Mr and Mrs Roy Blue is selected as manager of the Logan Motor Freight Transit Co terminal in Huntington West Virginia. He will assume duties February 10 and the Blues will move to Huntington in the near future.

Ranger couple celebrates 50th wedding anniversary

Yellow rose and gold decor framed a Findlay event honoring Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Ranger on January 28 1891. Dinner at Harshberger restaurant featured a two tiered gold cake, 75 congratulatory telegrams and visitors from Findlay Mansfield and nearby towns. Rev F M Newcomb officiated the nuptials.

Overcome With Fumes From Gas Stove

Mrs. Forrest Bland recovered from illness caused by inhaling fumes from a gas stove while heating water for washing clothes. She was unconscious three times in the basement until air revived her each time, and she crawled to the basement stairs before ascending to the main level.

Bob Stombaugh son of Mr and Mrs J T Stombaugh of East Findlay Street Lima underwent knee surgery Tuesday at a Lima hospital. The operation corrected a twisted right knee from a fall during football with Ohio Northern University Ada A loose cartilage was removed during the procedure.

Earl Green Post 344 American Legion presents Alton Burley Kinsinger of Carey and his all girl revue with Burgette the magician at the high school auditorium this evening at 8. Miss Jayne Melby of Marion and Miss Helen Thomas of McComb headline a cast including Miss Betty Jean Hackathorn Findlay Miss Eileen Roberts Marion and young performers Gene Andrews and Diana Rose Sabrel. The act features Burley on harmonica impersonations and dances while Burgette performs novel stage tricks such as The Phantom Doves and The Chinese Torture Mystery.

The Carey Hi basketball team edged Salem 24 23 Tuesday evening to climb back into the win column. Burson led with 10 points, Michaels had 8, with Strahm Zahn Michaels Burson Wickham and Nye playing for Carey. Newly Built Locomotives Tested by Lima Road

The operating department of Me A C and Y R R trials two large engines built for the road at Lima locomotive works. The first trip left Lima at 2 30 pm Monday, reached Carey at 8 00 pm, stayed until 10 00, and arrived Akron at 7 09 am Tuesday. An engine overheated. a second westbound trip was made and the big machine stopped in Carey last evening.

A window display of camping gear, crafts, and a model camp will appear in a Carey business this Friday February 7. A three day gala February 7 to 9 marks the opening of Blue's Restaurant and Confectionery owned by Mr and Mrs Roy Blue. The modern fireproof building on Dame property hosts special menus and a Sunday chicken dinner with Page's ice cream and a full soda fountain lineup.
