Gibsonburg to Visit Carey in Gym Fight Tonight

The Sycamore community suffers the loss of its school by fire as Gibsonburg visits Carey for a boys basketball game tonight. Reserve at 7 30 and varsity at 8 30 with admission 25 cents students 35 cents and adults. Public school notes highlight top typing scores and band events along with class activities and heating issues.

Old Fashioned School Program At Ne High School Chapel

Homemakers club and Future Farmers of America plan an old fashioned school chapel program on January 30 at 9 in the school auditorium. Students perform in roles from announcers to soloists while the event emphasizes school traditions. Banquet plans for February 6 include committees from both clubs with invitations sent to member families.

Pastor Hoists Fortieth Birthday and Namesday Honors

Three events honored Very Rev Paul Vollrath O M C pastor of the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation marking his namesday and 60th birthday. The celebration aligned with the opening of the improved gymnasium and auditorium his latest parish project. Franciscan guests from Angola Ind Lorain and Carey attended a dinner following a children’s school party. He has led the parish since August 1929.

William Dill transfers from Vanlue to join a 35 pupil enrollment. Carey students attend Columbus Farmers Week event

Agriculture teacher R. H. Sturgeon and six Carey high school boys spend several days in Columbus for Farmers Week. Three Carey boys form an apple judging team and three form a potato judging team.

New Floor Underway at Shick’s Store

Workmen began laying a new hardwood floor in the room occupied by Shick's. The remodeling should take about 10 days to finish, and the store will remain open for business each day during the work.

G. Wagner of N. Vance Street owner of East-Side Market marks a 13th birthday anniversary this month born February 29, 1884. Leap-year births occur every four years and he missed 1900. Wenner and Powell Tie Sacred Knot at Christ Lutheran

Miss Coretta Powell daughter of the late Mr and Mrs John Powell and Samuel A Wenner were married at 730 pm Saturday evening in the Christ Lutheran parsonage. Rev Paul R Clouser officiated with Miss Jennie Powell as witness. The couple planned a weekend in Columbus. Wenner is manager of the Farmers Co operative company.

Home From Hospital Care for Mr Karcher

Mr and Mrs Leo Karcher of southwest of Carey returned home from Cleveland Clinic hospital in the Goff ambulance. Miss Alda Williams from Cleveland, a trained nurse, accompanied them to care for Mr Karcher after a serious operation. The patient is slowly improving, according to bedside reports.

Farmers' Co op names directors at annual meeting

The Carey Farmers' Co-operative Co. held its annual meeting at the Catholic hall with over 100 stockholders present. Three directors were chosen: Alonzo Ogg and John Fox were re-elected, and Oscar Karg joined as a new director. F. J. Miller of Tiffin gave the address, and entertainment by the Swahbe Sisters of Leipsic followed dinner served by Memorial Evangelical church women.

Carey Youth Narrowly Escapes After Stone Slide

Merle Gopmer a 20 year old National Lime and Stone employee was nearly buried when a pile of stone slid while he stood on it to adjust a crusher. Harold Shull Howard Ward and 75 coworkers helped uncover him after two hours of frantic shoveling. He survived with shock bruises and exposure and was taken home by ambulance.

Easter Sunday falls on March 24 making it the earliest since 1997. If spring weather cooperates, straw hats may appear by May 165 and other holidays like Mother's Day on May 12 and Father’s Day on June 16 remain unchanged. Lent begins February 7 next Wednesday.
