The Christmas season brought numerous visitors and dinners across Carey and nearby towns. Families including Johnson Gullette Gottfried Messmer and Allison hosted relatives from Detroit Cincinnati Findlay Toledo and more for meals and gatherings. Local residents also shared dinners with extended kin from Columbus Bucyrus Mt Clemens and Adrian plus soldiers visiting from Ft Leonard Wood and Lowry AFB.
A long list of Christmas Day and Eve dinner guests visits across Carey and nearby towns. Family groups from Tri State College Angola and Findlay join relatives in Upper Sandusky, Sandusky, Carey, Bellefontaine, and Marion for meals. Numerous siblings, cousins, and in lawsattend, with gatherings hosted by the Wises, Morans, Lovers, and Oggs among others.
Carey Blue Devils post a 75 69 win over Vanlue after a 52 51 Friday comeback past Cory Rawson. Dennis White 23 and Jerry Orians 21 lead Carey, while Cory Rawson’s George Keller scores 20. Vanlue’s 73 39 reserve and box scores noted.
Charles W Stansbery aged 20 and Glenn Dale Puckett 17 were found climbing from a north window of Carey Motor Service at 798 E Findlay Street and captured by Thomas McMahon with a 25 caliber automatic. They were jailed in Wyandot County. Puckett was to appear before Judge Kear at 2 pm Wednesday and Stansbery the next morning. Stansbery had recently been paroled from a Kentucky federal institution for forging checks.
The Lanning Motor Sales will be closed all day Tuesday January 3 for adventory.
Tom Newell son of Mr and Mrs Gail Newell of Galion formerly of Carey has been honored as one of the outstanding players on the Galion High School football team. The Galion Inquirer notes Newell was the outstanding defensive player at the senior high banquet where Charley Muller and West were named honorary co captains for 1955 and Newell and Willie Eichhorn named co captains for 1986.
Jerome and Leo Bernard announce the sale of their Upper Sandusky store to Edward Franz and Earl Thomas, effective Jan 3. Leo also sells his Carey store interest to his brother Jerome, sells the Carey store to Isadore Collet, and buys the Jennings Furniture Store in Kenton.
Wayne Anthony Albus born at Parks Air Force Base Hospital California December 11 was baptized December 18 at the Church of The Annunciation Stockton by Rt Rev William M Burke. Sponsors were Harold Albus and proxies Robert Peake and Earl A Albus. both fathers are with the 504th Medal at Sharpe General Depot Stockton.
Mrs George Pointer of Rochester called her parents Mr and Mrs W H Sloman by long distance telephone on Christmas Eve to extend congratulations on their 52nd wedding anniversary. Their grandchildren Miss Gloria Lupton of Detroit and Pfc James Lupton of Camp Lejeune visited that evening.
Denver L. Bellville, 46, Toledo, pleaded guilty in police court Friday night to failure to equip a trailer with clearance and stop lights. He was fined 5 dollars and 4.60 dollars costs. Arrest was by State Patrolman R. E. Mortine.
Dr John M Thompson has been elected chief of the Wyandot Memorial Hospital medical staff, succeeding Dr Henry Vogtsberger. Other 1956 officers include Dr F M Smith as vice chief and Dr Tal madee R Huston as secretary. Wyandot County Medical Society officers named Herschel Rhodes president R J Garster vice president and C B Schoolfield secretary.
Harrys Drug Store and Mapes Rexall Drug announce limited hours for the New Year weekend with Sunday opening 9 am to noon and special all day hours on Monday.
Lakeland residents may skate on the lake under proper conduct and no property damage as stated by The Lakeland Corp. The policy emphasizes safety and responsible use of the lake area.
Russell H Kear, judge of the Courts of Common Pleas and Probate, accepted appointment to the advisory council of the State Division of Correction on Tuesday. Appointed by Dr John D Porterfield, the term runs to July 1 1960 with other terms staggered. The council, meeting several times yearly, approves institutional staff appointments and shapes policy and procedure. Other members named include John C Carew Columbus Mrs Bell Grove Cleveland Marshall C Hunt Cincinnati and Dr Walter C Reckless Columbus.
Beech Grove E U B Church hosts four day series from December 29 to January 1 at 7 45 p m Rev George Reep of Green Springs to preach with music by Rev and Mrs Reep The final service features Irene Weitert recounting her life story as a Hungary native and former prisoner behind the Iron Curtain Her escape is described as a miracle and attendees are invited.
Judson Virden a 24 year old Tri State College student of Angola Indiana wrecked his car on State Route 281 ten miles east of Holgate at 1 30 am while en route to Carey to spend the holidays with his parents Mr and Mrs S D Virden His car struck a mailbox and skidded into a ditch He left to report the accident and while away his route was broken into and his clothing luggage Christmas gifts two briefcases and books were stolen valued at about 300
Fifteen youth from St Pauls EUB Church near Vanlue sang Christmas carols Thursday evening at the Walters home on E Findlay Street and visited 15 other Carey homes. The evening ended with a party at the Martins near Mt Blanchard. Singers included Richard Walters Clair Walters Vivian Walters Norma Jean Walters Jeanette Lee Marlene Lee Ronald Lee Alan Loader James Loader Jerry Baughman Jimmy Baughman Shirley Klesch Helen Florea Marilyn Florea Claren Baker along with advisors Fred Kloepfer Gerald Baughman and Mrs Carlton Bishop.
Postmaster J. A. Schira reports Christmas business at the focal post office set a record. Receipts for the first 24 days of December rose 20 percent over 1954, with 89 000 two cent stamps and 43 100 three cent stamps sold from December 1 through December 24.
