Our Lady of Consolation parishioners and friends collected 1623 pounds of clothing during Thanksgiving Week to aid the needy overseas. The shipment went to Catholic Relief Services NCWC and 112 pounds of new garments were sent to the Pope's warehouse.
Carey High Blue Devils win to improve to 2-0 on season led by Dennis White with 20 points. Orians and Risner add 14 each and Wentling 12 as Carey dominates Marseilles 72-55. Stone sits after early personals as Carey controls boards and edges Hardin Northern 53-49 in road game.
The county commissioners accepted Neate Sales & Service bid for a 1956 Oldsmobile 88 four door sedan to replace the 1954 Chevrolet in sheriff’s service. Nine dealers were asked for bids, five submitted, Neate’s was lowest and deemed best.
Oil burners used to prevent freezing of New York Central automatic switches south of Carey caused a fire scare late Wednesday night last week. The burners lie under the switch for 12 to 15 feet and are lit by section men in icy weather to keep switches in operation, but an observer mistook the flames for a blaze and activated the alarm.
Clay Risner, 47, was charged with failing to observe a railroad crossing signal. He was fined $10 and ordered to pay $4.60 in costs. State Patrolman Robert Karmuszki cited him.
Dorcas Carey Public Library will close at 4 30 p m on December 24 and December 31 as part of holiday observances.
The village hosted its third annual Christmas party for employees and spouses in the firemen's room. A potluck supper, decorated tree, lighted windows, and a half-card exchange followed with attendees including J. R. Members of the Carey Shuffleboard Club gathered at Mr and Mrs Harold Shiley s home on West Street for a six o clock Sunday pot luck. The evening featured a red satin Christmas tree blue white lighting and candle centerpieces with snowman place cards. Toy gifts were traded and later donated to a needy family along with contests and dancing. winners named include Mrs Henry Pierpoini Mrs Donald Donelson and Mr and Mrs Donald Clark among others.
E E Gottfried, east of Lovell, has been re-employed as executive secretary of the Ohio Frozen Food Locker Association for 1956. He has been serving in that capacity for the past year.
Private Thomas Windau of Fort Knox Kentucky arrived home last Thursday for a 12 day furlough to spend time with his parents Mr and Mrs August Waindau and his brother John Windau.
Carey business places will close Christmas Eve Saturday at 6 o'clock and stay closed through Monday.

Soloist Mrs Robert Donelson sings O Holy Night and readings trace The Birthplace of Christ No Room in the Inn A Baby is Born and Those Who Watched Saw and Heard. Assistant David Lee of Asbury Theological Seminary. pastor Rev Walter Marks gives the communion meditation. Stewards assisting include Howard Beck Mac Coppler Wesley Phillips and Clifford Wise. All are invited to worship and partake in Holy Communion or observe if not communing.
Two 16 year old Carey boys were taken to the Boys Industrial School Lancaster by Sheriff Dean McAllister to begin indeterminate sentences after pleading guilty to four counts of petit larceny. They were connected to stealing automobile tires wheels fender skirts and a tube on Dec 3 from multiple local lots. Milton Jr 19 and Dale Eatherton 28 were held on $100 fines plus costs and remaining confinement determination.
Mrs. Joe Newhard and her daughter Ann were in an auto crash on Route 33 near Tiffin when the car skidded on ice. Ann escaped unharmed while Mrs. Newhard suffered back injuries and bruises, taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital.
P J Pahl sold the Pastime to Lewis Walborn who previously bought it in March 1941. Stevens Realty arranged the sale. The business closed for remodeling and redecorating and will reopen soon under Walborn and his brother Grove Jr. The building is owned by Orville Stomms.
A large family group gathered for the dedication of the new Mary Brook Academy high school in Maumee on Sunday afternoon December 11. Sue Ann Pahli was celebrated by her grandparents Elizabeth Snyder of Fostoria and Mr and Mrs P J Pahl her parents Paul F and Mrs Pahl, and her siblings and uncle and aunt Thomas Deiner. Sue Ann plans to return home Friday for Christmas.
Hunter's Restaurant will be closed all day Sunday and Monday, with re opening details not provided. The notice alerts customers to avoid planning visits those days and to expect normal hours resume afterward.

Sheriff McAllister reports three break-ins at McCutchenville Monday night or Tuesday morning. Thieves broke hardware store lock and safe door, damaged glass at the school office with $12 stolen, and forced a lock at the Farm Bureau office. Two break-ins in Seneca County and one in Wyandot County.

Sister Magdalette formerly Grace Courtade of Upper Sandusky has ended a 15 year teaching stint at Notre Dame Convent in Los Angeles and will teach at St. James School in Cleveland. Her new address is 2202 Prame Avenue.

The Church of One Lady of Consolation hosts a Franciscan Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve with Fr. Theodore Eickholtz as celebrant and Frs Emmanuel Klump and Benjamin Knopp as deacon and subdeacon. The Men’s Choir conducts Rosa Mystica Mass with violin medley by John Welsh. The Mass runs from 6 15 AM to 10 30 AM, followed by baptisms and devotions honoring Our Lady of Consolation.
Earl Vehrs of Galion son of Mr and Mrs John Vehrs Sr Toledo Street narrowly escaped fatal injuries last Thursday when an electric pole he was working on broke and fell. He suffered a broken nose severe bump twisted leg and bruises and was treated at Galion hospital before discharge.
The White House Conference on Education ended in December using round table groups of 11 or 12 at 166 tables to pool ideas. Senator Mosher of Oberlin criticized the event for few new ideas while Ohio’s approach to funding education and federal aid was debated. The Ohio Association of School Administrators honored 63 administrators with Citation Awards at a Deshler Hilton Hotel ceremony with Dr William Orr calling for purposeful, useful work.
Students earned a hundred in spelling and worked on crafts. County superintendent Mr. ID Woman visited the room and Mrs. Charles Earl also visited. Raymond Guzman moved to Texas. We donated $220 to the IB Fund and have been making and painting Christmas plaques as gifts.
The Browne Troop met on Wednesday December 14 with eleven girls in attendance. The group followed a trail and adjourned after an unanimous vote.
The F H A will pack Christmas boxes for elderly community members and follow with a caroling session. The next meeting is scheduled for January 2.
