Methodist Sunday School Christmas Program Schedule

The First Methodist Church Sunday school presents a 9 30 AM program from the primary and junior departments. Readings include The Christmas Story Grandma's Gift and A Christmas Poem. Santa Claus will treat the children after the program.

Frederick K. Cassel Receives Navy Honorable Discharge

Frederick K. Cassel, a radar operator on the USS Wisconsin, earned an honorable discharge after 21 months in the U S Navy. He participated in Leyte Luzon Iwo Jima Okinawa campaigns with the Third and Fifth Fleet under Admirals Halsey and Spruance. He holds American Theater Philippine Liberation and Victory ribbons plus Asiatic-Pacific ribbon with five stars. Cassel is a Carey attorney who served as a Civil Service investigator in Washington before reopening his law office.

Sailor Richard Lab Undergoes Appendecectomy Aboard Ship

Mr and Mrs E T Lab receive a shipmate letter noting Richard Lab Seaman First Class on the USS Little Rock had an appendectomy at sea on November 1 The ship on a Good Will Tour of South America departed Rio de Janeiro Brazil and was to stop at Montevideo Uruguay The writer visited Richard six days after the operation and found him in good condition The ship is a light cruiser.

Bhashthan Star to Meet Friday in Masonic Hall

Quail Hunters Return After Two-Week Trip

J. A. Haines of Carey and Jack Gorham of Detroit returned from a two week quail hunting trip across Arkansas Mississippi Missouri Tennessee and Indiana. They spent most of their time in Jonesboro Arkansas and found good quail hunting wherever they stopped.

AAA Chairman Re-elected in Salem Township

H Nachbar was re elected AAA chairman in Salem township. The committee includes Lovell Hall of Upper Sandusky and Lawrence Passett. Nachbar is about to enter his 11th year as committeeman and holds Wyandot county’s longest continuous service record.

Rams top Blue Devils 49 31 in season opener

Upper Sandusky Rams beat Carey Blue Devils 49 to 31 Tuesday night. Bob Schlenker and Bob Wolfe each scored 28 points combined, leading the Rams with strong first half, while Newell led Carey with 12 points and De Amieis contributed on both ends.

Theodore Jesko Receives Discharge From U S Army

Theodore Jesko received an honorable discharge November 16 from the U S Army at Indiantown Gap Pennsylvania after four years and nineteen days of service. He served 23 months in Puerto Rico with the 66th AAA gun battalion and later in the European theater with the 301st Infantry 94th Division 8th Army. He fought in England France Germany Belgium and was in Czechoslovakia with the Occupation Force, earning BETO American Theater American Defense ribbons Good Conduct Medal and two Battle Stars. He will resume his position at the Carey Farmers Cooperative Co where he worked before entering the service.

Peterson leases Marathon service station owner ex serviceman

Kermit Peterson, a well known ex service man, has leased the Marathon service station from the Ohio Oil Co. at Findlay and Patterson streets opposite the public library. He served 3 1/2 years in the U S Army with 2 years overseas and was a shop foreman automotive ordnance for nearly two years. Peterson will stock and install Marathon products including tail pipes mufflers fuel pumps and perform minor repairs.

Mrs. Alice Bickley Leases Dutch Mill Station

Mrs. Alice Bickley of Tiffin has leased the Dutch Mill filling station on E Finding street from Mrs. Clarence Ruffing. She and her husband will operate it with Texaco Fire Chief and Sky Chief gasolines plus Texaco Havoline oils. The station offers 24 hour service and a menu of plate lunches, jumbo sandwiches, home made pies, and other prepared foods.

Candlelight Service at Christ Lutheran Church

The annual Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at Christ Lutheran Church will begin at 11 30 p m on Monday December 24. The service includes congregational singing with special Christmas music by the junior and senior choirs directed by Mrs M D Shafer who also presides at the organ. Santa Claus to Visit Carey and Upper Sandusky for Kids

The Elks of Upper Sandusky No 83 BPOE announce Santa’s appearances in Wyandot County. On Monday December 24 he will present at the New Carey Theatre at 10:30 a.m. and at the Star Theatre in Upper Sandusky at 2:00 p.m. Free shows offer candy bags and a souvenir Christmas book.

Carey area department hardware and variety stores announce hours for the Christmas period. Open all day Thursday December 20 then close at 9 p m. Friday and Saturday extend to 9 and 11 p m respectively. Monday December 24 close by 10 p m. Navy Vet Robert Hendricks Honorable Discharge

Robert Hendricks E M 2 c was honorably discharged from the navy December 11 at Great Lakes after 2 years and 10 months. He served on the USS Farquhar destroyer escort 139 which escorted an airplane carrier in the Atlantic and Pacific. He is the son of Mrs. Florence Hendricks near Van Buren where he and his wife Martha Wagner of Carey stay while seeking a Findlay home.

Fire damages Vanlue area home on Saturday night

The residence of Paul Walters family, 2% miles south of Vanlue, was partly destroyed by fire Saturday night. The Vanlue fire department was called. A defective flue is said to have caused the blaze after the house had been moved from a nearby farm last summer.

Gerald S Rickle age 18 son of Mr and Mrs Lee Rickle of Carey has enlisted in the regular army. He reported to the reception center at Camp Atterbury Indiana for assignment after joining at the Findlay recruiting station located at 107 West Crawford Street.

T/3 Don Bates, veteran of the 35th Evacuation Hospital, received six battle stars and an arrow head for a beachhead. He served two years in New Guinea the Philippines and Japan and took part in one invasion.
