Friars Choir to Present Christmas TV Program

The Friars Choir of Our Lady of Carey Seminary will present a half hour Christmas television program this Saturday at 2 p.m. on WTOL TV. Entitled The Crib of the Christ Child the program narrates St Francis of Assisi and his role in popularizing the Christmas crib. Participants include Fr Wayne Hellman announcer Fr James Long Scriptural narrator Fr Stephen Gross the friar and Ronald Jacob the boy. The 40 voice choir will sing carols such as O Come O Come Emmanuel Christ Was Born on Christmas Day and Adeste Fideles.

Mrs. C. A. Cole To Mark 100th Birthday

Mrs. Clarence A. Cole of Findlay Ohio will celebrate her 100th Christmas Day with a 2 to 5 p m open house. She a farmer's wife and mother of eight lives with her daughter in Carey and enjoys reading crocheting and family visits. Her descendants include four living children and many grandchildren with a new great great granddaughter.

Garden Club shares holly lore at Christmas party

Carey Garden Club members held their annual Christmas gathering at Mrs. L. N. Zahn’s West Street home. After a brief business meeting, Mrs. Wilford Shuman led organ music and attendees sang carols while holiday arrangements were described and prepared for delivery to shut ins.

Two Christmas Eve Services At Christ Lutheran Church

Two Christmas Eve services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church on Monday evening. An added 7 o'clock family service precedes the traditional 11 o'clock candlelight service. Children's and Youth choirs, directed by Mrs Buckland, sing along with soloists. The Rev. George E. Cressman will deliver the Christmas sermon. Decorations include two trees, greens, candles, tall taper sconces, and about 30 poinsettias donated for the altar.

Carey Blue Devils Fall In Double Overtime Thriller

Carey Blue Devils endured a double overtime heartbreaker at Riverdale as Bob Oman sparked a Falcons win with a last second bomb. Miller led Carey with 19 points while Chester added 11 and Oman 11 as Carey falls to 1-4 on the season and looks ahead to Arlington.

Hospital Maintains Wage Scale and Budget

Wyandot Memorial Hospital’s board kept the current wage scale after noting prior nurse raises in April and other staff raises last year. The 1963 budget totals $378,592.51. A contract with Ohio Power Co covers installation and maintenance of a mercury light at the hospital rear. Dr. Robert Lee Solt Jr. of Bucyrus was granted medical staff privileges.

The 58 member Carey High School band directed by John Gregory performs traditional Christmas songs and a narration by Carol Powell titled The Toy Shop this evening at 7 30 in the high school auditorium. Man Walks 14 Miles For Daughter's Medicine During Snowstorm

Richard Williams from seven miles east of Carey on S R 53 walked from his home to a local drugstore on Friday December 7 during a snowstorm to fill a prescription for his 9 month old daughter Victoria Lynne who had a high fever. He left at 10 a m and returned about 3 45 p m after the sheriff could not reach the home by cruiser.

Post Office Window Hours And Snowbound Mailboxes

The notice lists daily window hours from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. except Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m and Monday 8 a.m. to noon. Postmaster J A Schira asks rural route patrons to clear snow from mailboxes. Carriers will not leave their vehicles to deliver mail, but will make courtesy checks. Each route has 50 to 100 snowbound boxes.

Open Heart Surgery Successful At St Vincent’s Charity

Mrs. John Christoff of Bowling Green underwent a three hour open heart surgery Monday at St Vincent’s Charity Hospital Cleveland. She is in satisfactory condition. Her parents Mr and Mrs W M Hunter and her husband were present. The Hunters returned home Tuesday. Mrs Kenneth Dible traveled to Bowling Green Saturday to care for Judy and Sharon Christoff.
