Vanlue’s eldest citizen Mrs Ida Deidrick will celebrate her 102nd anniversary on Wednesday Dec 19 at her daughter Mrs Cora Knepper’s home. Salem Grange purchased the former Silver Spur Restaurant and 1.16 acres south of Carey on U.S. 30 N from Clinton Karg of Upper Sandusky. The Grange will furnish the building and rent it to groups or individuals for meetings, suppers, card parties and family events. Booking is handled by Lewis Gottfried, Sr., with reservations by phone. the hall will be used at least two nights weekly per Elmer Steck.

Carey Firemen Answer Three Calls
Carey firemen responded to three smoke reports at the Burley Hesson residence on Patterson Street starting Monday night at 11. There was no flame, only smoke between the bathroom ceiling and second floor, and a fire extinguisher was used. Smoke recurred hours later. the bathroom ceiling was opened and no fire found, smoldering only. cause undetermined per Fire Chief Orion Wilgus. The home is owned by Karg Brothers. A separate blaze Friday at 10:45 p.m. involved the motor of Cleve Ward’s auto in the alley behind the Carey Times office causing minor damage.
