Ohio Education Association Assembly Meets in Columbus

The annual Ohio Education Association Representative Assembly gathered December 16 to 18 in Columbus. Carey high school principal Cloyce Wentling served as a delegate, attending all sessions for the Carey school system.

Blue Devils Reserve keep undefeated run in tense double header

Carey reserve team beat Upper reserves 48 to 44 in a tight game as Jacoby Draper McKinnon Kloepfer and Cole led passes and scoring. D Williams and IL Orians boosted Carey with a first half 10 point edge while Orians and Williams saw fouls expel them. Carey heads to Kent Friday then to Sycamore next Tuesday for tougher tests.

Y Teen Meeting Discusses Devotions and Charity

The Y-Teen group met Monday night December 3. Barbara Elbert outlined devotions and a renewed Y-Teen purpose. They chose not to have a check room at games and decided to send money from Brotherhood Week to a foreign student. They accepted an invitation to carol with F H A and Hi Y. Ann Dible led a discussion on boy and girlfriend ship problems after adjournment.

Local basketball tour begins with two daily games

This week the tourney starts with two games each day during the moon hour. Players give maximum effort as they aim to win and advance.

Special Christmas Services Planned in Carey Churches

Catholic churches in Carey plan Christmastide celebrations with Midnight Mass at the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation. Rev Theodore Leickholtz leads the Mass and crib blessing, assisted by Rev Benedict Rubeck and Rev Denis Herbst. Seminary and grade school choirs perform carols before Masses at 6:15 8:00 and 10:30 am. St Nicholas French Town also schedules Midnight Mass with Christmas Day services starting 9:00 am.

Fred Fisher of 124 S Patterson street resigns from David Kirk Sons Co Findlay after 14 years to become manager of RE R Godfrey Sons Co wholesale grocery house in Madison Wisconsin. Village council approves budget moves and salary hike

At the regular meeting the village council passed an ordinance raising salaries and hourly wages for all employees and reviewed the 1962 budget. The council denied H B Keller's request for a residential electric rate in his apartment building. Village Manager Ridley was authorized to sell a 1938 model half-ton truck. Mayor Wagner thanked B M Bachar on his last meeting after 14 years of service. Sewer lift pumps rebuilt and back in service after seven months. No 1 well at waterworks back in use after five months. Eldon King of Arlington installed new casing housing and shaft.

Thirteen members of the Wyandot County Bar Association gathered in Upper Sandusky on Friday afternoon and were guests of Judge Russell H. Kear for dinner at the Evergreens. A. K. Hall spoke honoring the association’s elder members. attendees included H. G. Chambers of Carey who began practicing in 1895, plus Willis Rowland and Frank Stalter of Upper Sandusky who were honored.

Home of Perkinses Destroyed by Fire

A 9 room frame house owned by Mr and Mrs Floyd Perkins three miles northeast of Wharton burned Sunday night around 9 30. Firemen saved nearby outbuildings but water supply froze in cold weather. The origin is under investigation with defective wiring suspected. The family of eight lost most belongings. parents and one child evacuated to neighbors while others found temporary shelter with local families. House partially insured.

Carey Stores Open Thursday For Christmas Shopping

All stores in Carey will be open Thursday afternoon and evening to help the public finish Christmas shopping. They will stay open every evening until 9 o’clock through Christmas Eve, with some closing at 6 o’clock on Christmas Eve and others remaining open until 9. The post office stamp and parcel windows will also stay open each evening until 9.

A heavy snowfall disrupting traffic was cleared from the business district with rapid aid from National Lime & Stone Co volunteers supplying graders trucks and two loaders. Water Main Break Disrupts 400 Block on South Street

A six inch water main break in the 400 block of E South Street was found at 1 a m by neighbors noticing water seeping in snow. Police were notified and city workers delayed until daylight. Water shut off in afternoon for a permanent coupling. investigators believe the break was sudden, not from a slow leak.
