School To Resume January 2 After Snow Storm

Storm disrupts four bus days last week canceling Christmas exchanges programs and decorations. School officials announce regular schedules resume Wednesday January 2 as snow drifts delayed activities and forced dismissal mid afternoon on Monday.

Carey Board Resumes Lighting and Paint Upgrades

The Carey Board of Education approved a program to improve lighting and painting at the High School and Col Crawford buildings. Three high school rooms and four Col Crawford rooms will get new cold cathode lighting during Christmas vacation, boosting candle power toward 30. The board aims to finance remaining room lighting soon, stressing health and academic progress.

Snow Delays Blue Devils Basketball Season Start

Snow brings postponements as Upper Sandusky double header is halted and Kenton and Sycamore games are cancelled. Carey opens the 52 season January 4 against Mt. Gilead. JayCee Christmas Lighting Winners Named

A. G. Windau and Our Lady of Consolation Shrine won first prize in the Carey Junior Chamber of Commerce annual Christmas lighting contest. Second prize in division one went to Mrs. Melvin Risner, with Dennis DeVene and Carl B. Rader as third and fourth. In division two over twenty dollars Our Lady of Carey Seminary took second prize, followed by Mrs. Perry McDaniel and Paul F. Pahl Jr. in third and fourth. Prize money ranges from 10 to 2 dollars. judges were F. M. Edwards, Joseph Schira, and Donovan Lanning.

C and C Trains to Stop Between Columbus and Toledo

The public utilities commission approved discontinuing two Chesapeake and Ohio passenger trains between Columbus and Toledo. Trains 35 and 36 will end service January 21, leaving two remaining north south routes via trains 46 and 47. Both railroads cited unprofitability with a combined net loss of $6,807,721 for the first five months of 1951.

Marshall Receives Degree and Plans Military Service

Mr and Mrs Jack Marshall of Columbus visited at his parents home north west of Garey over Christmas before heading to Cincinnati to stay with Mrs Fairy. Jack earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Ohio State University and his wife earned a dental hygiene degree in the June 1951 class. Jack plans to enter military service.

Dr R Hershberger was elected chief of staff at Mercy hospital during the regular monthly staff meeting. He will succeed Dr R Ley whose term ends December 31.
