Storm disrupts four bus days last week canceling Christmas exchanges programs and decorations. School officials announce regular schedules resume Wednesday January 2 as snow drifts delayed activities and forced dismissal mid afternoon on Monday.
The Carey Board of Education approved a program to improve lighting and painting at the High School and Col Crawford buildings. Three high school rooms and four Col Crawford rooms will get new cold cathode lighting during Christmas vacation, boosting candle power toward 30. The board aims to finance remaining room lighting soon, stressing health and academic progress.
Snow brings postponements as Upper Sandusky double header is halted and Kenton and Sycamore games are cancelled. Carey opens the 52 season January 4 against Mt. Gilead. Coach Atkins praises four local players including Dog Orians Skip Williams Dick Williams and Lee Callahan for improving tempo and control.
A. G. Windau and Our Lady of Consolation Shrine won first prize in the Carey Junior Chamber of Commerce annual Christmas lighting contest. Second prize in division one went to Mrs. Melvin Risner, with Dennis DeVene and Carl B. Rader as third and fourth. In division two over twenty dollars Our Lady of Carey Seminary took second prize, followed by Mrs. Perry McDaniel and Paul F. Pahl Jr. in third and fourth. Prize money ranges from 10 to 2 dollars. judges were F. M. Edwards, Joseph Schira, and Donovan Lanning.
Christ Lutheran Church invites the public to its New Year Eve Candlelight Communion service at 11 p.m. Pastor Rev John A Root will preach As Thy Day So Shall Thy Strength. F D Jackson and daughter Martha will sing Star of the East. Joyce Myers plays organ with Prelude Joy to the World Offertory Silent Night and Christmas Postlude.
Mr and Mrs William Yingling Jr and their son Stephen will relocate at year’s start to the upstairs apartment at 330 W Findlay Street. They had been living with Mrs Yingling’s parents Mr and Mrs Maurice Gaster. The former occupants Joe Weininger and daughter Joyce moved to McCutchenville recently.

Rep. Betts of Ohio's 8th district will join WLW radio on Sunday for World Front as a guest panelist discussing international news. Other panelists include Carl Groat of the Cincinnati Post Joseph Sagmaster of the Times-Star and William Hessier of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Atty. Paul A. Burson and Dr. R. Wenner bought the Qstory building on S. Vance Street, former Risner barber shop site. They began remodeling, plan a central partition creating two business rooms. Wenner will occupy the north half by January 1, with the south half for rent.
Pfc. Leonard Longanecker, son of Mrs. Mildred Longanecker, arrived home Monday morning on a surprise leave. He had been on delay en route from Eglin AFB Florida where he participated in maneuvers and will depart this morning for Otis AFB Falmouth Massachusetts.
Ronald William Creeger, a 12 ounce at 12 25 a m, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert W Creeger of 325 W North St in Wyandot Memorial hospital. The mother is Annabelle Riehm, daughter of Carl Riehm of Maple Grove. Alan James Kramer, a 6 pound son, was born at Mercy hospital in Tiffin to Mr. and Mrs Bernard C Kramer of 209% ON Vance St. The mother is Margaret Burger, daughter of Roman J Burger of Tiffin.

The public utilities commission approved discontinuing two Chesapeake and Ohio passenger trains between Columbus and Toledo. Trains 35 and 36 will end service January 21, leaving two remaining north south routes via trains 46 and 47. Both railroads cited unprofitability with a combined net loss of $6,807,721 for the first five months of 1951.
Mr and Mrs Jack Marshall of Columbus visited at his parents home north west of Garey over Christmas before heading to Cincinnati to stay with Mrs Fairy. Jack earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Ohio State University and his wife earned a dental hygiene degree in the June 1951 class. Jack plans to enter military service.
Major Harold Krout and his wife sent Christmas and New Year greetings to their parents in the United States. The cablegrams announced Harold’s promotion from captain to major. Messages were received Monday morning at Clark Field in the Philippine Islands.

Identical twins Faye and Ferne Adelsperger from Carey enrolled as student nurses at the Toledo Hospital school of nursing. Director Edna E. Sharritt says nursing schools cannot train enough nurses to meet growing demand, estimating about 250 percent more nurses needed in three years.

Dr R Hershberger was elected chief of staff at Mercy hospital during the regular monthly staff meeting. He will succeed Dr R Ley whose term ends December 31. Dr M Aiken was chosen vice-chief of staff and Dr Charles W Consolo secretary. They will be installed at the annual medical staff banquet in January.
