Carey High School prepares for a tough Tuesday night game against Sycamore noted as having one of the county’s best teams. The match follows Carey’s first win of the season on their home floor with Twinjoy leading scorers and strong passing and defense.
Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation plans a midnight Solemn High Mass with Rev. Paul Vollrath OMC as pastor. Ralph Brown directs a choir program including Still Nacht and Das Gloria plus selections from Peter’s Mass in D and Gesu Bambino, highlighted by careful arranging for the Christmas season.
A Christmas vespers program will be presented Sunday afternoon at 4 30 at Christ Lutheran. The senior and junior choirs perform special Christmas music with organ numbers by Elsie Howard and violin by O W McKnight. The program includes pieces by Pergolesi Ashford Yon Tschaikowsky and a duet by Robert Ewing and Gail Kurtz. An early service next Wednesday at 6 00 features more carols and a Christmas message by Rev Paul R Clouser. Public invitation extended.
A 7 pound son born Sunday evening to Mr and Mrs Isadore Collet of 5 Lake Street. A 6 1/2 pound son born last Thursday to Dr and Mrs David H Sausser of Detroit, father a son of W E Sausser of south of Vanlue. A 9 pound son named Paul Lee born Saturday to Mr and Mrs Paul Williams of Cleveland at Fostoria hospital, father a son of C A Williams of Carey. A 7 pound daughter Shirley Marie born Wednesday morning to Rev and Mrs Marion B E Tinsler.
Carey fire department was called Wednesday evening after 6:00 to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Schira on E Findlay street where a pile of papers in a storeroom adjoining the kitchen caught fire. Considerable smoke resulted but no damage occurred.
Plastering on the new seminary by the Franciscan Order on West Street is advancing quickly with the fourth floor completed and terra cotta finish being added to the first floor.
Sheriff Weatherholtz investigates the weekend theft of seven bronze turkeys from the Lester B. Snyder farm one mile north of Carey. The birds averaged about 20 pounds each and may indicate a coordinated theft by an organized group.
Harold Platt taught and distributed Hawaiian guitars and performed on a balcony microphone last Friday and Saturday at his mother's house over Henry's Grocery as a public demonstration.
A purse thief at Fetters store Monday evening is identified. Police say an arrest will follow if the purse is not returned.
Hundreds line Carey streets to see Santa as he visits for a few hours this Saturday. A second visit next Saturday promises gifts for every child. Strand theatre owner D A Capell offers two free shows for under 12 with Santa attendance. Citizens urged to finish home Christmas decorations by Saturday for a grand prize contest offering 1000 dollars first place, 500 second, 300 third. Judges include local clergy and Rev Sager. Neighborhood home displays must be street-visible and exclude electrical-store participants.
Mrs. Bakies and Mrs. Neff traveled to Milan, Michigan after Joseph and Bernard Seifker were killed in a Saturday head on collision on U S route 112 near Cambridge Junction. The crash also killed Luther Graf Lawrence Rump Frederick Seegar and John Foss plus left John Foss critical. Prosecutor Kunmey planned a negligent homicide charge against truck driver Leo King with inquest canceled.
The Pythian Sisters hold a regular meeting at 7 30 this Thursday evening followed by a Christmas gift exchange. Husbands Knights of Pythias their wives and children are invited. Packages should be marked for men women or children. A pot luck supper will be served after the exchange.
Al Wagenknecht, manager of the New Galt hotel, will host Friday fish fry luncheons to connect with local business men. The first event is Friday December 27 at 1 30 pm, with the first 20 registrants invited. Wagenknecht plans to reveal hospitality in a hotel setting and will introduce an unrevealed song.
The Woman's Missionary Society met in the church prayer room to devotional a lesson on Evangelical Education and elect officers for the coming year with Mrs. Claude Johnson re elected as president, Mrs. N W Sager vice president, Mrs. C C Carr secretary, Mrs. Paul Powell assistant secretary, and Mrs. Virgil Green treasurer. Auditing committee members were Mrs. Henry Daymon and Mrs. Gertrude Tate. The meeting closed with the Lord's Prayer.
The Loyal Order of Moose invites wives and children of members to its annual Christmas party at the hall on Thursday evening December 19.

In Spelling the honorees include Bernard Reinhart, Franklin Reinhart, Pauline Bakies, Carolyn Weaver, Agnes Ruffing, Paul Smith and Junior Stark.
Alterations and relocations of various lobby facilities at the New Galt hotel aim to speed service and enhance appearance. The manager’s public office is being fitted at the end of the clerk’s desk. A mezzanine private desk will handle wedding planning and special menus.
The Junior W. B. A. and WB A members hold their annual Christmas party on Friday evening December 20. Each girl brings a gift for a girl and each boy a gift for a boy. All members are urged to attend for the children led program with Santa expected to appear.
