Christmas Vespers at Christ Lutheran Church Program Set

A Christmas vespers program will be presented Sunday afternoon at 4 30 at Christ Lutheran. The senior and junior choirs perform special Christmas music with organ numbers by Elsie Howard and violin by O W McKnight. The program includes pieces by Pergolesi Ashford Yon Tschaikowsky and a duet by Robert Ewing and Gail Kurtz. An early service next Wednesday at 6 00 features more carols and a Christmas message by Rev Paul R Clouser. Public invitation extended.

Papers Catch on Fire at Findlay Street Residence

Carey fire department was called Wednesday evening after 6:00 to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Schira on E Findlay street where a pile of papers in a storeroom adjoining the kitchen caught fire. Considerable smoke resulted but no damage occurred.

Plastering on the new seminary by the Franciscan Order on West Street is advancing quickly with the fourth floor completed and terra cotta finish being added to the first floor.

Seven Bronze Turkeys Stolen From Snyder Farm

Sheriff Weatherholtz investigates the weekend theft of seven bronze turkeys from the Lester B. Snyder farm one mile north of Carey. The birds averaged about 20 pounds each and may indicate a coordinated theft by an organized group.

Santa to Visit Carey With Presents for All Children

Hundreds line Carey streets to see Santa as he visits for a few hours this Saturday. A second visit next Saturday promises gifts for every child. Strand theatre owner D A Capell offers two free shows for under 12 with Santa attendance. Citizens urged to finish home Christmas decorations by Saturday for a grand prize contest offering 1000 dollars first place, 500 second, 300 third. Judges include local clergy and Rev Sager. Neighborhood home displays must be street-visible and exclude electrical-store participants.

Brothers killed prompt travel notes to Milan for Seifker deaths

Mrs. Bakies and Mrs. Neff traveled to Milan, Michigan after Joseph and Bernard Seifker were killed in a Saturday head on collision on U S route 112 near Cambridge Junction. The crash also killed Luther Graf Lawrence Rump Frederick Seegar and John Foss plus left John Foss critical. Prosecutor Kunmey planned a negligent homicide charge against truck driver Leo King with inquest canceled.

The Woman's Missionary Society met in the church prayer room to devotional a lesson on Evangelical Education and elect officers for the coming year with Mrs. Claude Johnson re elected as president, Mrs. N W Sager vice president, Mrs. C C Carr secretary, Mrs. Paul Powell assistant secretary, and Mrs. Virgil Green treasurer.
