High School announces A Honor Roll list with alphabetizednames across grades eight to senior. Tomorrow Carey hosts Salem in its first home basketball game with two boys contests at 7 30 p m. Salem known for fast pace and scrappy play, new rules promise quicker action.
The 8th grade girls made taffy apples and a variety of fudges buttered candy and dipped chocolates. Friends may receive homemade candy boxes from Santa. The sophomore sewing class continues Christmas gift making and learns bound button holes plackets.
At the assembly on Friday morning the audience sang three verses of Silent Night. Devotions were led by Mr. Arnholt and announcements by Mr. Huffman. The orchestra performed several numbers.
Readers learn about football letters due soon and a Santa belief study by Hileen Kirkwood. Polly Newcomer expressive hand motions appear in debate. Junior high girls and Freshmen face chapel entertainment by Mr Huffman.

Miss Lottie Dixon and Willard Mullholand were wed in a Saturday morning ceremony in Moundsville W Va The couple of McCutchenville were joined by a single ring rite officiated by Rev John Honifan The bride wore green crepe and velvet with brown accessories They plan to reside in McCutchenville where the groom works for Standard Sanitary Mfg Co in Tiffin
Last Sunday the Wagenknecht family from Toledo visited the New Galt Hotel to inspect the new job of the head of the family. Mrs Wagenknecht stayed for the week and other relatives from Swanton and Toledo returned Sunday evening. The Christmas celebration will be held at the New Galt due to Mr Wagenknecht's hotel duties.
The Woman's missionary society will hold its annual thank offering service next Sunday forenoon at 10 45. Piano prelude by Mrs. Paul Powell followed by Hymn 253 sung by the congregation. A missionary address by Mrs. Frank Seifert of Marion and performances by Anita and Patty Lou Johnson, Betty Louise Bowman, and Mauvelyn Hendricks accompany the program. An offering will be collected.
D P Wisler of W Findlay street serves as state inspector on the Smithville bridge linking Upper Sandusky and Sycamore along Route 67. Construction began Monday for a three span concrete structure, located 150 feet north of the temporary bridge, with 2900 feet of the road to be straightened.
A group of Carey students will participate in a recital this evening at Upper Sandusky High School auditorium. The event is presented by the Roth studio of the Honolulu conservatory of music.
Mrs. Grace Stanley of Crawford reports from Forest relatives that Harry Bechtel of Oakland California has died from a heart attack, found in bed on November 17. He was a former Carey resident.
A typographical error omitted the names of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Constien from the guest list at the Powell Laughlin wedding dinner. The correction adds the Constiens as attendees in the society note.
New Years Eve celebration at the Village Tavern features music by the Buckeye Mountaineers. Door prizes and no cover charge.
Santa will arrive on Findlay street at 3 00 p m in a new Ford truck and stay until 9 00 p m Saturday. Children with their names on paper handed to him receive a present, while all other youngsters get gifts per telegram. Carey hosts Christmas trees, white way posts, and a decorating contest with $1000 first prize, $500 second, and $300 third.
An 80 pound son arrived Tuesday for Mr and Mrs Frank McKernan of Dow Street. A 6 pound daughter named Jeannine Odessa was born Tuesday morning to Mr and Mrs Cyril M Braun in their Keller apartment. Victor Reynolds, the newborns' uncle, turned 13 on the same day.
The family expresses sincere thanks to friends and neighbors who assisted after the death of Christian Brooks Espe. Special thanks to Father Wenceslaus for comforting words the choir for singing and Mr Bristoll for services. The family appreciates all who helped.

A retreat for married women at Our Lady of Consolation church runs Tuesday to Thursday and closes with a 7 30 p m service. Additional services are scheduled today at 9 00 and 10 00 a m and at 3 00 p m.
Mrs Mae Kauble will sing in the soprano group next Tuesday evening as Handel s Messiah is performed at the Findlay college chapel under the college chorus conducted by Prof Wendell Sanderson.

Norma Elizabeth Lee of Wharton former Elyria High School teacher died Tuesday night at Memorial hospital of lobular pneumonia. She will lie in state at Bristall funeral home then at her parents home Bert and Mrs Lee. Funeral at 2 PM Friday at MFE Church officiated by Rev. J E Turner. Survived by brother Thomas J. Lee and her parents.
The Young Ladies Sodality of Our Lady of Consolation parish arranges a Christmas party for Tuesday evening December 17 at 8 00 at the Catholic hall. An invitation is extended to the girls of St Joseph’s parish in Salem.
The Ladies Aid of Adrian Community Church hosts a Christmas bazaar and supper on Tuesday evening December 17. Hot chicken sandwiches noodles ice cream cake and hot knockers are on the menu.
The Lutheran Ladies Aid will hold its annual bazaar on Thursday December 12 at the parish house. A cafeteria lunch will be served all day and a chicken dinner will be available from 5:00 to 7:00 for 35 cents.
Daryl Moyer Richard McKinnon Henry Kimmel and Harvey Savidge left Friday for Lodi California to tour new cars and visit relatives in the West, planning extended travel through the region.
Carey Farmer Co operatives announced a 12 by 90 foot addition to their warehouse on North Street. The project aims to increase storage capacity and improve distribution for local agriculture producers.
Late pledge returns pushed Carey Community Chest campaign past the $1600 goal by about $30. Additional pledges may still be received and added to the total.

Newell W Banks, noted checker champion, and wife Mrs Banks visited McDaniel Motor Sales Monday evening. Banks played 40 checkers games blindfolded and straight, winning all but two. Spectators included over 100 people from Wharton Mt Blanchard Findlay and Carey.

Mr and Mrs Paul Powell arrived home Saturday after a 10 day honeymoon in Miami Florida with side trips to Kentucky Tennessee Georgia and the Carolinas They called on Miss Catherine Hart a student at Asbury College in Wilmore Kentucky during their journey.
The Ohio Hotel Men's Convention meets in Toledo December 13 and 14 for its annual gathering. Several hundred registrations have been received. Al Wagenknecht, manager of the New Galt hotel, plans to attend both days.
The C I O class of Memorial Evangelical Sunday school meets at Mrs. Charles McCormick's home on N Vance Street Friday evening. Members bring a Christmas gift for a dear sister and omit the giver's name. Supper is served at 6 30 p m.
The ruby jubilee of Rev. John Haubert pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic church in Toledo will be observed Tuesday December 17. He earlier served as pastor at St. Nicholas church Frenchtown from 1901 to 1910.
The W. B. A. will hold a 10 cent Christmas exchange and a taffy pulling Friday evening. All members are urged to attend.
The Pythian Sisters plan a birthday social this Thursday. Members are invited to join the event at their lodge for fellowship and celebration.
In Carey Ohio December 9 1936 Mary Ellen Calmes a parochial school 8th grader writes about a Catholic Chronicle Crusade engaging 5th to 8th graders across diocesan schools. Pupils solicit subscriptions and create posters. top posters advance to Toledo for judging with prizes awarded.
William Dow led with 10 subscriptions at closing time Wednesday at 6 00 p m. Joan Ruffing Joan Kramer and Mary Ellen Calmes earned top poster honors and their works were sent to Toledo for judging against other diocesan entries.
Boys in the 6th 7th and 8th grades work in the basement shaping figures for Christmas cribs as sawdust flies in every direction. The project involves careful carving and assembly by young students.
