Carey High School Concert Band to Present Christmas Concert

Carey High School announces its annual mid winter concert Monday December 22 at 8 pm in the high school auditorium. The program features Richard Doran on flute Estrellita Virginia Meek and Sammy McChesney in The Rhapsody In Blue solo arrangements and several seasonal pieces including Christmastide Overture White Christmas and Tumbling Tumbleweeds. A newly formed girls chorus will also perform in the event.

One Act Plays Set for December Assembly Program

A tentative program for the Christmas assembly on Tuesday December 23 includes two one act plays at 1 40 p m The Tree is presented by the Public Speaking Club with a cast of named students and The other play Catching Up With Christmas features nine senior girls with Mom roles played by Jane Haford Constance Ruth Wenner Lolly Rose Troiano and more Donna Ruffing will read The Night Before Christmas and Joan Cole will sing Christmas Carols are included in the program.

Howard Fredritz, 21, was seriously injured Friday morning when his left hand was caught in a punch press at a General Electric plant on Wall Street in Tiffin. The greater part of his hand was amputated at the wrist and he is under treatment at Mercy hospital, with plans to return to his parents north of Carey.

Salem edges Carey Blue Devils 38 33 in key victory

Salem remains undefeated after a 38 to 33 win over Carey Blue Devils on the local hardwood. Walter led Salem with 11 points while Dennison paced Carey with 9 points. Reserve teams also won for Salem 53 to 27.

Santa Claus at Carey Theatre Free Kiddies Show

The Carey Theatre hosts a free Santa Claus program on Wednesday December 24 with 8 color cartoons and a kiddies feature. Elks Club and Leo T Jones organize the event with about 1200 treats distributed. Santa will meet small children in the lobby 11:00 am to 12:00 noon and return afterward to give treats.

Private First Class McCarley Earns Glider Wings in Japan

Private First Class Teddy McCarley completed a week long glider riding course with the 11th Airborne Division in Jimmachi Japan. The award followed a field demo simulating air invasion using 74 mm pack howitzers and para chute drops as he prepares to return home to Carey Ohio.
