Richwood Defeats Carey 60-41 in high school basketball

Carey Blue Devils suffered a third straight loss at Richwood 60 to 41. Cheney led Richwood with 17 points while Dennison paced Carey with 11 points, as Richwood surged 11-0 early and widened the halftime gap to 23-14.

Santa Claus at Carey Theatre Free Kiddies Show

A free Christmas program for Carey area children is set for Wednesday December 24 at the New Carey Theater. The Elks Club and Leo T Jones organize an 8-cartoon program starting at 10 am with a Santa surprise and free treats for about 1200 youngsters. Santa will meet very small children in the lobby 11 am to noon to hand out treats.

Vaughn Earns Mining Engineering Degree at Ohio State

Joseph C. Vaughn, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Vaughn of Carey, received a bachelor of engineering in mining at Ohio State University Columbus on December 19. He won the Shell Graduate Fellowship worth 1200 dollars for advanced study in petroleum production engineering and will begin after graduation.

Edward Feck Becomes Upper Sandusky Agriculture Instructor

Edward Feck of Tiffin, former St. Francis Home farm manager for ten years, has been hired as an agriculture instructor at Upper Sandusky High School. His classes serve war veterans using the G I bill. Feck is a Carey high school graduate of 1927 and taught in Fort Recovery schools from 1934 to 1937.

Mrs. GCA Yeoman Receives Occupational Therapy Degree

Mrs. GCA Yeoman formerly Elizabeth Houk earned a Master of Science in occupational therapy from Ohio State University. She completed clinical training in Massillon, Dayton, Bridgeport, Rochester and will be noted as the daughter of Harold and Mrs Houk of Carey.

City Basketball League Invites Players For Monday Sessions

Car Crash Injures Two Carey Men on Route 23

At 11 30 p m last Thursday a car driven by Cletus Remlinger 46 of 127 Toledo Street skidded and overturned on icy Route 23 four miles south of Alvada injuring him and passenger Nicholas Windau 50 of S Patterson Street. Both were treated at Fosteria City hospital with Remlinger released and Windau admitted. The car suffered heavy damage.

Brotherhood of Railway Clerks Elects Officers in Ohio Districts

At a Mari gathering on December 10 Henry Pileracini Jr. was elected vice-president of the Toledo-Columbus district and Ralph C. Pahl named local chairman. Pahl also became special organizer for the Hocking division in Ohio. Both men work for the Co. and O. railroad. Pieraclini is at Marion freight office and Pahl at Carey ticket office.

Farm Changes Near Carey as Rentals Are Arranged

Ralph Arend who farmed the 160 acre tract north of Carey has rented the 100 acre William Myers farm two miles north of Carey on Route 23. Mr and Mrs Myers bought the former A L Arnold home on Clay street and plan to move there in the spring.

City Basketball League Sets Start Date and Rules

The second captains and players meeting established a Monday practice for all members on December 29 and the first regular games on January 5 1948 at 7:00. Teams capped at eight with five present. entries due by January 1 to set schedules. Games use 8 minute quarters with 2 minutes between, 6 minute halves, 3 minute overtimes, sudden death if tied. Hunters Bring Home Doe After Warren Deer Hunt

Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Newcomer of E Findlay street and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Swerlein of Sycamore returned home last Thursday night from near Warren where the men hunted deer. Each hunter brought home a 100 pound doe. This year many hunters are allowed to shoot does as well as bucks due to large deer numbers.

Broken Hip Suffered By Carey Woman While Milking

Mrs John Snook 79 of five miles southwest of Carey fractured her hip after a fall on the way to the barn to help with milking. She was taken to a San Antonio hospital.

A 90 pound son arrived Monday morning December 22 at Findlay hospital for Mr and Mrs Raymond J Riedlinger of northwest of Carey. The baby was named Thomas Raymond.
