George Hartman Jr silver medalist in the Prince of Peace Declamation Contest seeks engagements to perform before church groups and luncheon clubs to spread the peace message and gain practice. District contest follows holidays with potential cash prizes and scholarships at the state level.
Carey Blue Devils suffered a third straight loss at Richwood 60 to 41. Cheney led Richwood with 17 points while Dennison paced Carey with 11 points, as Richwood surged 11-0 early and widened the halftime gap to 23-14.
A free Christmas program for Carey area children is set for Wednesday December 24 at the New Carey Theater. The Elks Club and Leo T Jones organize an 8-cartoon program starting at 10 am with a Santa surprise and free treats for about 1200 youngsters. Santa will meet very small children in the lobby 11 am to noon to hand out treats.
Joseph C. Vaughn, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Vaughn of Carey, received a bachelor of engineering in mining at Ohio State University Columbus on December 19. He won the Shell Graduate Fellowship worth 1200 dollars for advanced study in petroleum production engineering and will begin after graduation.
Edward Feck of Tiffin, former St. Francis Home farm manager for ten years, has been hired as an agriculture instructor at Upper Sandusky High School. His classes serve war veterans using the G I bill. Feck is a Carey high school graduate of 1927 and taught in Fort Recovery schools from 1934 to 1937.
Mrs. GCA Yeoman formerly Elizabeth Houk earned a Master of Science in occupational therapy from Ohio State University. She completed clinical training in Massillon, Dayton, Bridgeport, Rochester and will be noted as the daughter of Harold and Mrs Houk of Carey.
All men interested in playing basketball are invited to a 7 30 Monday meeting at the high school gym. Bring shoes and equipment for a practice. Captains or organization representatives are especially urged to attend. For details call Cloyce Wentling.

The annual Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at Christ Lutheran Church is set for December 24 at 11:30 p m. Rev Wade H Koons will preach This Holy Night The nave will glow with candles and Bethlehem manger figures sponsored by Howard E Snyder Organist Elsie E Howard will play carols from 11 to 11 30 The senior choir and junior choir will perform and ushers will light candles for the Service of Lights after which Silent Night closes the service
At 11 30 p m last Thursday a car driven by Cletus Remlinger 46 of 127 Toledo Street skidded and overturned on icy Route 23 four miles south of Alvada injuring him and passenger Nicholas Windau 50 of S Patterson Street. Both were treated at Fosteria City hospital with Remlinger released and Windau admitted. The car suffered heavy damage.
At a Mari gathering on December 10 Henry Pileracini Jr. was elected vice-president of the Toledo-Columbus district and Ralph C. Pahl named local chairman. Pahl also became special organizer for the Hocking division in Ohio. Both men work for the Co. and O. railroad. Pieraclini is at Marion freight office and Pahl at Carey ticket office.
Ralph Arend who farmed the 160 acre tract north of Carey has rented the 100 acre William Myers farm two miles north of Carey on Route 23. Mr and Mrs Myers bought the former A L Arnold home on Clay street and plan to move there in the spring.
Arthur Stoll, a Keller Memorial Studios salesman and licensed real estate salesman, has been appointed an authorized loan solicitor in this territory for the Prudential Insurance Co. Applications for farm mortgage loans will be given prompt attention by Mr. Stoll.
Regular meeting of Carey lodge No 420 F and A M convenes Friday evening. Daniel W Weber W M presides and invites members to attend.
The Hammond electric organ is to be dedicated at Memorial Evangelical United Brethren Church next Sunday December 28 at 3 30 p m Rev F A Firestone district superintendent will lead the service Prof John W DeCare of Grinnell music store Toledo will give a 45 minute organ recital an accomplished musician and the program will include other musical numbers The church invites members of sister churches and the general public to attend B L UBS Pastor
The second captains and players meeting established a Monday practice for all members on December 29 and the first regular games on January 5 1948 at 7:00. Teams capped at eight with five present. entries due by January 1 to set schedules. Games use 8 minute quarters with 2 minutes between, 6 minute halves, 3 minute overtimes, sudden death if tied. Matches on Mondays at 7 8 and 9 PM in a six team league. Co Wentling.
H F Tener of Woodville Lime Products Co announces the purchase of a new stone drier for the Woodville plant. The unit will include dust collectors and is to be installed soon after year’s start and in operation by next spring to reduce dust on the north side of the village.

Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Newcomer of E Findlay street and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Swerlein of Sycamore returned home last Thursday night from near Warren where the men hunted deer. Each hunter brought home a 100 pound doe. This year many hunters are allowed to shoot does as well as bucks due to large deer numbers.
The Carey Farmers' Community Club will meet at the K of C hall Monday evening December 29 with committees in charge including Program Orville Cook Frank Miller and W J Krupp Refreshments Homer Claybaugh and Paul McNutt of Sycamore and J E Baugher.
Mrs John Snook 79 of five miles southwest of Carey fractured her hip after a fall on the way to the barn to help with milking. She was taken to a San Antonio hospital.
County Treasurer Karl F Kraus announced the real estate tax books will open around January 1 1948. Statements are being prepared and will be mailed out soon.

Christmas Eve midnight mass at the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation will be officiated by Father Ambrose Finnegan and a team of friars with a full parish choir. Morning Masses are scheduled from 7:00 to 10:30 with Gregorian rites and concerts prior to offertory. Confessions offered Tuesday, Wednesday prior to and following the services.
Rev Wade H Koons pastor of Christ Lutheran Church returned from Chicago where he attended a CROP national conference. He chairs the state Lutheran World Relief committee. CROP solicits gifts in kind from American farmers and recently shipped 6000 long tons of wheat to Bremen Germany for distribution through church channels based on need.

Kroger will distribute cash Christmas gifts totaling 13 500 to Toledo area employees. The plan includes about 20 000 Kroger workers in the Midwest and South. Joseph B Hall, Kroger president, announced eligibility for employees with six months of service excluding those in the incentive plan.
A 90 pound son arrived Monday morning December 22 at Findlay hospital for Mr and Mrs Raymond J Riedlinger of northwest of Carey. The baby was named Thomas Raymond. A son was born Wednesday night at the home of the mother’s parents Mr and Mrs Scott Long on Frederick street to Mr and Mrs Ted Sherman.
County Treasurer Karl F Kraus received nominating petitions this week from A Billhardt Jr clerk of the county board of elections for a second term as Wyandot county treasurer.
The Evergreens restaurant near Upper Sandusky will close Christmas Day and evening. Mr. and Mrs. Vernel Healey extend wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
