Carey High School's Junior Gass stages a 3 Act Comedy Beauty And The Beef in the high school auditorium at 8 00 tonight. The cast includes Ginny Allen played by Jane Mitchell Franny played by Virginia Meek and Beef captain of the football team played by Billy Hunter. Cast features nine boys ten girls with many star parts including principal Tyr Miss Bigby and drummer Foggy. The Royalty tally is 25 dollars and Thelma Clagett directs the show.
The Hi-Y meeting led by president Horace Newhard on Monday December 1 reviewed previous minutes, took roll call, and planned the tenth annual Hi-Y Christmas Sunday Evening Service to be presented to the public on December 21.
The band announces a mid-season Winter Concert on December 22 with a larger variety of instrumentation. The program aims to please all tastes with "Something for everybody" and a national anthem opening.
George Hartman Jr won the Prince of Peace county contest at Upper Sandusky church with Lois Conrad second from Eden Township School. June Anderson topped the county contest at the Reformed church with Mary Alice Guinther second, both earning silver medals. Ruth Wenner of Carey participated and Hartman and Anderson advance to the district contest likely in Lima.
Raymond Younger of Celina will visit Carey lodge No. 420 R and A M to install 948 officers. Thomas Reber of Upper Sandusky will assist as grand marshal. Refreshments will be served.
The Methodist Men's Brotherhood will meet Tuesday evening December 16 at o'clock. Prof D Cana van of Amsden will lecture on World Peace with Howard Methodist Church Findlay and First Methodist Church Vanicle invited as guests. Refreshments and entertainment follow featuring films People's Charter Kings of Sport and Sing America.
Mrs. Neil Patterson writes of her sister Mrs. H F Maddy and husband enjoying a vacation in Mexico. From Shirley Courts Calzada Manuel Villalongin 139 Mexico City they report good American food and many American tourists. They planned to return to the States after 214 days, crossing a large mountain on day one and two smaller ones on day two.
The American Legion Auxiliary asks for monetary donations placed in cans at business locations to fund gifts for veterans in hospitals. Donations should be made before the drive closes on December 18.
Mrs Paul Smith hosts the P R S club this Thursday afternoon at 2 o clock at her home northeast of Carey. A Christmas gift exchange will take place for members and a treat provided for the children.
Bluffton College choral society and orchestra present The Messiah Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in Bluffton High School gymnasium. The event showcases the college music groups and invites local concertgoers to attend the performance.
Harry Taft of six miles south of Carey was admitted to Findlay hospital as a patient on Wednesday. Doctors plan to reset his left hip today after a fall from a tree in September 1946 caused the injury.
A Marion field office representative of the Social Security Administration will be at the Carey municipal building on Tuesday December 16 at 8 00 p m to assist residents with social security services.
A speaking instructor at Carey High School served as coach for Ruth and George, guiding them in public speaking and classroom performance as part of the school program.
The intramural league starts December 17 with four teams from the four high school grades. Each team plays nine games, and the team with the best winning percentage is crowned school champion and earns a playoff against the faculty all stars featuring Alley-Shot Atkins Hacker Hawk Dead-Eye Wentling and Super Duper Treherne. First round: Freshmen vs Sophomores at 7 00 pm and Juniors vs Seniors at 8 00 pm. Admission is 5 cents. Uniforms ordered for the teams arriving by the first game.
Carey hosts the state checker tourney with about 40 players expected. The event runs Friday December 26 for about a week in the McDaniel Motor Sales display room on W North Street. Prize fund likely reaches 300 dollars, signaling strong competition led by Fred Stimpson and John Starr.

Mr and Mrs Kenneth Strauch owners of Thoroclean Bucyrus have bought Don Myers dry cleaning business at 1 N Vance street. Possession took place Saturday with new equipment and four weekly deliveries to the Carey shop. Myers stays at Carey until year end and Mrs Mary Rantfro joins the Bucyrus shop.
Round and square dancing at Eagles hall Saturday night with music by W J Williamson's orchestra of Fostoria. Open to the public. Secretary Rene Dubois invites the public to attend.
The American Legion Earl Green post 344 hosts a Christmas exchange fish fry and social at the Legion hall on Friday December 19 at 7 30. Auxiliary members their husbands and Legionnaires with wives and friends are invited and urged to attend. Gifts will be exchanged among ladies and among men.
Upper Sandusky Elks Lodge 83 held its annual memorial service at the Elks Home. Exalted ruler W. L. Stombaugh of Carey presided. The service honored members including Lt. Chester M. Malaby killed in action and others listed from 1946 and 1947. The program featured invocations, vocal solos, a memorial address by Jonathan S. Hare, and the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
Mercy hospital in Tiffin welcomed a daughter on Wednesday to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brickner of Fostoria. Findlay hospital saw a one pound seven ounce son Friday to Mr. and Mrs. John Loudenslager of Vanlue and a one pound baby girl to Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bland of Carey. Grove Street couple Carl Stansbery and Florence Ritter welcomed an eight pound four ounce son on Wednesday November 3 named Bobby Joe.
Bernard Reinhart, 25, of near Carey, was hospitalized at Fostoria City after a corn shredding accident last Tuesday forenoon. He was pitching corn when his fork caught, ripping his face. his right eye was removed in a Friday operation. His condition is listed as satisfactory.
Ed Swartz and Bob Gundlach opened a body repair shop in the rear building of the Galt Hotel in Tiffin. Both ex servicemen with four years of auto body experience say they have installed first class machinery to perform repairs.
Stationed in Japan Private Teddy J McCarley enlisted October 3 1946 in Carey. He trained at Fort Knox and returned home for a brief leave. He serves with the parachute field artillery on Honshu Japan and has made several parachute jumps. He is the son of Carl McCarley and grandchild of Mr and Mrs Frank McCarley.
The Central Ohio Legion of the Moose No. 63 will meet in Mansfield on Sunday December 14 at 2 30 pm. Officers of the 5th district meet in Bucyrus on Wednesday December 17. C C Wyckoff is president and C J Neff secretary.
Sunday several Fellowship degree members from Carey lodge attended initiation and a meeting of the Fellowship degree in Columbus. They were: Minor Mann, C. J. Neff, Maurice Gaster, Albert Lanning, P. J. Pahl, Harvey Sopher, Dan McLoughlin, Jack Walters and J. T. Stombaugh. Dick Voltz, secretary of Upper Sandusky lodge, also attended.
Carey Moose hosts a weekly Saturday evening round and square dance from 9 to 12 for members and families. Children must be accompanied by parents and admission requires a green receipt as stated by James L. Smith, Publicity Chairman.
The Dorcas Bible class of the Methodist Sunday school will meet this Thursday evening at 8 o'clock in the home of Mrs Rose Diller on Findlay street. Mrs Naomi Hunter will assist. A 25 cent Christmas gift exchange is planned.
Mr and Mrs BH L Rish and their son Eddie were summoned to Carey by the death of Mrs Rishs father Charles GC Carr. They returned to their Marion Indiana home Saturday morning.

Banns were published for the first time at Our Lady of Consolation Church for Joseph C Vaughn son of Mr and Mrs J A Vaughn of east of Carey and Miss Mary O'Brien of New Haven Conn. Both are students at Ohio State University Columbus. The wedding will be solemnized December 27 in New Haven.
On Friday Mark Davidson, 10, son of Mr and Mrs John Davidson of south of Carey, cut off the end of the index finger on his left hand while chopping corn for chicken feed. The fingertip was severed below the first joint.

B C Meek reports an Eagles gathering at Aerie hall on December 16 to nominate officers and provide a meal for all attending members.
The 89th anniversary service is set for Sunday at 10 30 a m with 15 members honored for 50 years of continuous membership. A reception for new members and gifts to Building and Remodeling Funds will follow as Pastor Wade H Koons preaches Behold I Send My Messenger.
The local W B A held a meeting with officer elections for 1948. Officers elected include President Mrs Maurice Gaster and Vice President Mrs Denis DeVene. A pot luck lunch followed and a gift was given to Mrs Cyril Baker, newlywed. The next meeting is set for Friday December 12 at 8 15 pm in the Moose Hall to plan the annual children’s Christmas party.

The Wyandot County Auditor announces 1948 dog tag sales with fees: Male and Spayed Female 100 dollars, Female 3 dollars, and Kennel License 10 dollars. Tags must be bought by January 20, 1948, or a 1 dollar per dog penalty applies. optional mail-in option requires age sex color hair length breed and a self addressed return envelope.
Cletus Collet opens a used car lot north of the Dutch Mill on East Findlay Street with an office on the north side of the Dutch Mill. Collet brings ten years in auto sales and runs the only locally owned used car lot in Carey operated independently from other businesses.
John Wehrley, 89, was taken to Findlay hospital for medical treatment after a Wednesday incident last week. He has been in failing health since he was assaulted and robbed in May 1946 and has lived alone on New Patterson street.
