Mrs Ida Deidrick will celebrate her 98th birthday on Friday December 19 in the family home now with her daughter Cora Knepper. A native of Big Spring township Seneca county she has lived in the community all her life. She enjoys reading newspapers visiting and following current events though she has a fondness for radio over television. The Carey Times extends birthday wishes.
At the December council meeting the contract with McGill Smith and Becker to improve and expand the Carey water system was accepted by Resolution 440. The $850 cost will be added to the complete bill. Ordinance 510 passed as emergency to issue notes. Braun Bosworth and Co will finance. Police report shows November collections of 406 dollars.
November meter receipts totaled 474 with a slight rise from 45.50 in 1957. First eleven months receipts reached 5,810, down from 5,967 a year ago. Meter violations and solicitor fees added 11439 to the village treasury last month. Police issued 363 tickets. 322 paid 280 at 25c, 37 at 1, and 5 miscellaneous totaling 239. One solicitor permit issued at 5. Last November 384 tickets were written and 355 paid 306 at 25c, 41 at 1, and 8 miscellaneous at 160. Two solicitor permits were issued.
Handel's oratorio The Messiah will be performed by Heidelberg College choirs and the community chorus totaling about 300 voices, with the College Community Orchestra at Seiberling gym in Tiffin Sunday at 2:30 pm. Two Carey violinists, Carl Arnold and John Welsh, play in the orchestra. Admission is free for the public.
Sale begins at 9 a.m. on December 20 at Dible's. Sponsored by the Palm Leaf Rebekah Lodge, the event features handmade candies and cookies for purchase.
Cleveland Regional Red Cross Blood mobile returns to Carey on Thursday December 18. From 1 to 7 pm at the Catholic school donors may register at the drugstores or Wednesday evening at the movie. Jay Cee and Women’s Club volunteers assist in recruitment. Local doctors and nurses donate time.
The Carey High School Vocational Agriculture Department under Carl Cupp will offer a five week welding course starting January 8 at Carey High School. Sponsored by Lincoln Electric Co through its Wyandot county dealer U S Implement Co Upper Sandusky the course is open to farmers in the Carey School District. Limited to 16 students, register with the high school. A five dollar lab fee covers electrodes and metal.

The Latin IT Club met on December 1 with President Barbara Wise presiding. Members voted to shovel walks as a fund raising project and listed contact number 6-2138. Linda Wickiser Amelia Walder Wanda Jesko and Melva Wentling performed a play for entertainment.
Public invited to Christmas Assembly Friday December 19 featuring Carey High School vocal groups in Be Joyful Be Merry. Elementary and high school assemblies at 9 and 2 with carols hymns ballads and lesser known works from ancient and modern sources. Girls chorus mixed ensemble junior choir with trio and soloists.
Dr Harvey S Galloway of Columbus central Ohio district Nazarene will deliver a special message at Ridge Chapel Nazarene Church on Wednesday night December 17 at 7 30 oclock. A large attendance is expected, with Rev Ellis H Penrod in charge of the service.
Potluck dinner at 6 p m Sunday December 21 at the Catholic hall. Meat rolls coffee and milk furnished. Attendees should bring a covered dish and table service.

Santa Claus visits Carey on Saturday afternoon December 20 for the Elks Lodge No 83 Christmas party at the Carey Theatre. Doors open about 1 30 p m. free movie for children only, then a Santa treat at 2 30 p m in the theatre lobby for those too young for the film.
The Christ Church centennial concludes this Sunday with Holy Communion at 8 am and 10 30 am. New members join at the 10 30 am service. an extra 4 30 pm observance runs half an hour for those unable to attend morning rites. Tonight features Family Night with a drama on women’s work and talks by former pastors Rev Paul Paetznick and Rev John A Root. Dr Paul R Clouser spoke last week to large audiences as part of the celebration.
Carey edges Hardin Northern 48 46 as Ron White scores 17 including the final basket with 15 seconds left. John McDaniel adds 15 and 21 rebounds to lead Carey. White 16 boards, Messmer 7 points, Orians 6. Hardin Northern guards Sampson and Rader top Bears with 11 each. Junior Varsity loses 49 48 to Hardin Northern. Next, Carey travels to Sandusky St Marys for conference opener.
Public invited to a shell furnished event by the Carey Conservation League and Sportsman's Assn. The turkey shoot and candy draw take place at 1 pm on Sunday December 14 and Sunday December 21, four miles south of Carey on Elm Hill Road.
E G Ryman, vice president and general manager, announced Carey Division of Porcelain Products will start manufacturing custom porcelain items for high voltage power distribution. The line will supplement existing low voltage and non electrical porcelain items, with production beginning after building mods and equipment install within a couple of months. Employment is expected to rise gradually due to increased production.
San dusky Bay Conference coaches named four 1958 Blue Devil football players to the All-Conference Team. Senior Tom Greer and Junior Rex Orians earned spots on defense while Senior Jim Messmer and Junior Chuck Dasher were honored for offense.
Ellenora Lodge No 863 met in the IOOF Hall at Vanlue and elected officers for 1959 led by Noble Grand Mrs John Hendricks and Vice Grand Mrs Harold Hagerty. Recording Secretary Mrs Troy Fisher and Financial Secretary Mrs Eldon Shaffer were named, with Treasurer Mrs Mable Crawford and Deputy President Mrs Erman Hendricks. Degree Captains were Mrs Guy Burnap and Mrs Robert King, with Trustees Mrs Lee Miller, Mrs Glen McKee, and Mrs Floyd Shaffer.
